Saturday

England Golf Trust Stableford

Fourteen ladies ventured forth today in rather windy and cloudy conditions. Hilary's score of 36 points and Jane's 34 mean that their names go forward to England Golf as the best silver and bronze scores respectively. The best thirty total scores will be invited to play in the national final in August.

Frieda came third with 30 points and Jean won the B group with 26.

We all wish Hilary a successful day on Wednesday when she represents us in the Area Medal final at Tehidy.

Awesome Ladies!

Matchplay

Awesome indeed!

Par 3 10th  looking towards the Tamar and the moors

Cape Ladies travelled to Whitsand Bay today for the third of our League matches,
where we received a very friendly welcome.

Traffic was good - it took just over an hour and a half - and the weather was overcast, cool at the start but ended up fairly warm and hardly a breath of wind.

Most of us hadn't played the course before so it was a new challenge! Sue and Di had played it but quite a long time back and I had walked over some of it last year but in essence it was a new course.

In some ways it was quite like Cape  - it would be hugely challenging in a strong wind, but we were blessed with stillness!

6th Hole

And our team did really well!

As I drew up the start sheet it was not looking so good - we were giving shots in all but one match. In one match we gave 9 shots and in another 7!

But despite all that, Cape ran out winners five and a half to one and a half!

Well played Team - a fantastic win!

Our team today were Claire, Di, Hilary, Lindsay, Ros, Sue and myself. For Di and Ros it was their first league outing.

Super and unexpected result - well done everyone!

Thanks drivers - Di, Hilary and Lindsay...  and thanks to the Ladies of Whitsand for their welcome.
Our next match is away at Polzeath.

Thursday

Thursday's front 9

The cold winds abated to allow good conditions for the morning's play. The first four cards handed in seemed to confirm the inevitable countback situation, as they all showed 14 points. However, Chris James then returned 17 points but was still unable to better Liz Nicholls with another amazing score of 21 points. Lynne McArthur's 13 points earned her the first place in the B group.

Some of us then stayed on to hear Lynn Exley introduce us to the basics of Foundation Training. The sight of a group of ladies taking up what might seem like some rather ungainly poses may have confused others in the area, but the ideas were most interesting and inspiring to those of us involved.
More details can be found at www.foundationtraining.com

If you are interested in finding ways to improve your golf, it will be worth looking at Lynn's website www.themindfulgolfer.co.uk for some ideas.

Dee and Ray's Trophy

Dee and Ray's Trophy

Today we played the Dee and Ray Trophy Texas Scramble, we had good weather though fresher than of late!

Twenty one wonderful ladies took part including Michelle who it was lovely to have playing again! Welcome back!

We were also joined by Lynn Ex who is down for the week. In fact Jan, Marion and Lynn had a two on the 13th!  Well played! I'll award your balls on Thursday!

There was definitely a chill in the air except down in the sheltered 13th where this tiny little speck of Scarlet Pimpernel was shining among the daisies!

It was lovely to welcome Poppy to award the trophy. She brought a polished pebble for us all and set up a tab for us all to have a drink.

Thank you Poppy.

In second place were Hilary, Anne and Bronwen. With 9 pars and 2 birdies, they had a very good score of 67.25; three shots better than their nearest rivals. Well played!

In first place were the 'F team'. Fabulous, Fantastic, Formidable; Fiona, Fran and Frieda!!

We knew when the draw was done that this team would be fiercely difficult to beat and that's as it proved!

Well played you three... 7 pars and 4 birdies brought in a suitably fantastic score of 66.25!
Worthy winners!

Well played all - great to see everyone... the weather is turning cooler now so we may need our thermals again next week!

Thanks again to Poppy for coming and making today special.

ps...

Can you spot the kestrel... it was hovering just above the ground in the field just beyond the first... fabulous to watch!

Aussie Spoons

G'day!

...and what a good day it was!

The weather was absolutely glorious.

We have such a lovely group of ladies... always thoughtful for the needs of each other.

For example, Sarah... telling us today about a good deal which is on at Lidl's...

...she even  brought the label so we could be in no doubt.

???

Hortus I believe... for those that enjoy gin!

We were truly spoiled for the weather today and
several pairs of ladies came to play the Australian Spoons... a foursomes stableford competition over 18 holes.

The winners can go through to a regional final which this year is at Val F's course at Long Sutton, so it would be lovely if someone made it there from Cape.

Mark and his team were working hard - the course was amazing... he was watering some of the greens and kindly turned off the taps as we approached so we wouldn't get a drenching!

You can see from the picture above that the sea was like a mirror at the start... not a breath of wind... absolutely perfect!

Lynne and Pam came and played 9 holes because they had commitments to return to, and some of our ladies came later to play so we will have to wait for the results until all the cards are in.

We certainly had a lot of fun out there today... and judging from the laughter floating across the course on many occasions... lots of us had fun!

Thanks to Mother Nature for her smile today and to Mark and the team for the condition of our amazing course - it is fabulous!

TEG

Tuesday Evening Golf

What a beautiful evening!
It was still and quiet with pools of sunlight glinting out to sea.

Today we played a better-ball competition and 9 pairs took to the back 9.

There were only 4 points between all of the scores - ranging from 19 to 23!

And... because it's Cape... of course there was countback.

This time there were 5 pairs that had the same score!

That score was 23!

In third place were German and Viv who just pipped Jayne and Ray to the winnings!

In second were Bob and myself...

and in first place were Andy and Frieda!

Well played all... there really was nothing in it!

What amazing scoring by everyone...22 pars between us all... and 3 birdies!

Many stayed and enjoyed ham egg and chips...

I am tempted to tell you about what happened on the way past a table which had a delicious looking bowl of chips...

but it can wait!

Easter Saturday

Eggstravaganza

Today was not quite an Eggstravaganza... although some Easter Eggs were on offer!

The day started overcast, a little damp and with a chilly wind... but ended in warmer conditions with some sunshine!

The damp grey start

Gary had agreed to us teeing off the first and the tenth because there were 21 of us playing.  Claire had sadly had to pull out - we are all hoping the scheduled op on Tuesday for her dad will go well and are sending love.

Once again we had some interesting shots! Jayne fell in love with walls and from the start was flirting with them outrageously!

On the 9th, her drive had an assignation with the wall... shot up into the air and bounced again on top of the wall and ended up on the 8th fairway in the gap. It has to be said that her next shot was a cracker and was on the edge of the green!

Because we were choosing our prizes we awarded them in order. Winning on countback with 36 points was yours truly!

Jenny had 36 points too and was next up to the table!
In third was Chris L with 34 points.

In fourth place was Sarah who chose the simnel cake that Geoff had made for us.

Liz and Anne both had 31 points with Liz just pipping Anne to 5th place.
After that the cards were chosen at random and everyone chose an Easter present.

The shot of the day went to Jan for her shot on to the 18th green which ended up about 6 inches from the hole! Great shot, Jan!

Thanks to Jean and Ros for doing the cards, and Di although no one could get on the internet at Cape today so the full results were delayed but are now here.

Happy Easter everyone, and especially those who could not make it today.

Thursday am

Thursday Front Nine

What a glorious day!

Seventeen sylphlike sirens took to the greens today... and along with the usual Stableford we counted our putts on the green.

That was certainly a challenge for some of us... especially when you haven't noticed that you hadn't eaten any breakfast and couldn't fathom why you felt so tired!

Anyway... there was some fabulous play today, and there were some lucky shots too. Bronwen teed off the 4th and struck the ball very well... unfortunately it flew towards the wall out of bounds above the mine shaft... ricocheted high into the air and landed on the edge of the mine... (still out of bounds) and then ran to the fairway!

Shot of the day however was between Angie, who parred the 9th and scored a four for four...(huge round of applause); and Liz who had a 4 for 5 on the 6th!

Yes, she birdied the 6th!

So Liz has the bright pink head-cover till the next shot of the day!

To the results... in the B group in second place was Angie; and in first was Lynne - well played.
In the A group, in third place was Jenny (on countback of course... this is Cape!); in second, with an outrageous 21, was Liz... and in first place was Frieda with a fantastic 24 points!
Fabulous play!

The putting competition prize was shared between Frieda and Sarah who both had only 14 putts on the 9 holes! Really good putting - well done!

Thanks to Lindsay for doing the card marking in all its complexity today!

Thank you Mark and team for the course which was looking amazing... and thank you Mother Nature for smiling on us!

Violets on the path.

Hooray

Tuesday Evening Golf

Hooray, Tuesday evening golf has started again!

It was a beautiful evening but the wearing of shorts was regretted by a few by the time the sun went down!

We had clear skies and sunshine but cold hands (and knees) ensued!

Thanks to Lyn for organizing these evenings... today we had a drawn waltz marked off the ladies card with the ladies teeing from the yellow tees on 3 and 9.

It was such a lovely evening and there were some super scores!

The lie!

It was a great turnout for the first TEG evening of the year with 18 players!

Shot of the day might have to go to Mike D for his shot on the second hole.

He was in the long scrubby grass below the wall for two...

What a shot!

and see where his shot ended!

It was amazing!

However, even though Mike's team had a better than par score it was not good enough to get near the winners!

The winning team(s) had 45 points and it had to be decided on countback (where have I heard that before?)

In second place, just pipped to the win, were Claire, Jayne and Liz;

and the winners were Lyn, Sue S and German!

Well played!

A date for your diary... Lyn has asked us to keep the first Tuesday evening in December clear for our celebratory end of year meal together...  the 5th December!

League v Trevose

Post-Augusta Monday!

Well played Cape Ladies!

A lovely win over Trevose... the weather was fabulous (although the wind was chill), the course was in great nick and our team did us proud!

Ready for the off!
While the ladies teed off, Mark was asked how he'd managed to keep the rabbits and birds away from the greens... particularly the 4th...

his answer was...

..it certainly seems to be working!

Di and I were spotting drives on the 12th which was largely successful although we did miss a couple...

I was pleased to have found one ball...

sitting up on top of the gorse...

and tried to picture what I'd do if it were mine... and ...was it playable?

Only to be told it wasn't the right ball!

After play we had a lovely meal - many thanks to Ashleigh and the kitchen staff.
The Trevose ladies were lovely to host and several expressed a desire to come back and stay and play the course again and walk the cliffs.
Just the effect we hoped for.

So, many thanks to... Bev, Fi, Fran, Hilary, Lindsay, Lyn and Sue D.

Our next match is away at Whitsand Bay on Friday 28th April and I am in need of players - silver and bronze, so please sign up if you are able.
