New Captain's Trophy

New Captain's Trophy

Sunday 28th saw eight teams enter the New Captain's Trophy competition. It was a disappointing turnout for this Texas Scramble but I believe the recent weather and the course conditions (by that I mean no buggies) may have affected the number of players.

However for those who played we had good weather and it was great to be out on the course.

Thanks to Roy for organising.

In third place were Claire and her playing partners Steve P, Steve A and Jon B... scoring 61.4!

In second were Jayne and her team of Brian, John S and Jon H... scoring 59.2!

And the winners were Lindsay and her team...Steve D, Steve B and Chris... with 58.8!
Well played!

Thursday

Thursday 25th January

There were some wonderful cloud formations today... blown on a strong wind and carrying rain and hail!

Several ladies came to play... and a fabulous four went out while the rest of us sheltered from the blustery wind around mugs of coffee or hot chocolate!

There has been so much rain on the course that it had to be closed yesterday. The bunker on the first is testament to that.
In fact there was so much water on the 13th that Mark and Chris dug a channel yesterday...above the wall on the 13th...

..the intention being to direct the spring of water away from the 13th and down the side...

...it was certainly working with a little stream flowing...

and the 13th green itself was looking fine.

It was certainly very beautiful out there today... and also very very cold.

The four who went out came back in after two holes with icy hands.

Let's hope it will be better for the weekend!

Flag

Flag

Saturday 20th saw us turn up for the Flag competition. The weather was not being kind... it was damp with a strong winds and gusts that knocked you off balance!

Saying that... there were still 11 ladies willing(!) to brave the course.

Flag is an interesting format as you have the par for the course plus your handicap to make up the number of shots you are allowed before calling time.

Hilary was only allowed 85 (and made it to the 16th - well done!) I had 88 and folded on the 14th!

Conditions were certainly challenging!

In third place 5 foot from the pin on the 16th was Fi (with 89 shots); second was Jayne who was just 18 inches from the flag on 16 with 101 shots... and the winner who reached near the bunker on the 17th... was our Lady Captain Sue (with 88 shots)!
Well played Sue.. and well  played everyone!

It is interesting that we all made it to 13th/14th/15th/16th... our handicaps were working ...

....now to dry the golf stuff!

All hail Thursday

Thursday

All Hail Thursday!

Well... not exactly ALL hail but there were two very nasty hail showers for our brave ladies to battle through!

Seven lovely ladies played today and of course countback was needed to separate them!
In third place (pipped on that countback) was Sue D with 13 points; Sarah was the culprit...she was second (with 13 points) but our outright winner was Jenny with 16 points, well played!

Well done all who took part today.

AGM

Ladies AGM and 11 Holes

There was a lovely turn out of Ladies for the AGM. Thank you all for coming or sending apologies.

Lyn chaired the meeting and took us through the business of the day with all the usual reports from the Captain, Treasurer, Handicap Secretary and from Management (which Ros read out). The New committee was voted into place and the handover took place of Captaincy to Sue.

We also drew the name of the 50/50 winner... and that is Frieda! Many thanks to Jean for organising that)

At Friday Evening's Presentation, Mike Lawrence had been presented with an engraved tankard as a token of thanks for all his years of service to the Club as President.

The position of President is now being shared by Lyn and Roy.
Congratulations to them both - I know we are delighted to have Lyn in that position and wish her all the best in that role.

A personal note...

I would like to thank you all for your support over the last 15 months... I have loved being your Captain despite the slightly bumpy ride at the end!
I have been moved by the way in which everyone got involved in Phil's cycle Challenge - (he raised over £23000 altogether!) you took my whole family to your heart and I appreciate that very much.

Thank you so much for the lovely flowers and the beautiful picture!
The picture is very special- bringing together three things I love; this wonderful place; the amazing group of ladies I learned to play golf with at Pavenham (who took the picture) and the awesome ladies of Cape!
Perfect!

It is up on my sitting room wall!

Thank you!

I am now looking forward to Sue's Captaincy and will do everything I can to support her. Her Charity is Alzheimer's and she has got off to a flying start with the purchasing of forget-me-not pin badges and OFEC cards!

Unfortunately the weather itself on Saturday was wet and windy so we weren't able to play golf after the AGM... let's hope it clears up soon and we can get out on our lovely course!

Proof of good consistent play is shown in many ways... not least in the final trophy in this section -  The Polglase Trophy.
To win over four separate rounds...two medals, one par and one stableford is a super achievement... and that was done by Hilary!
Well played Hils!

Thursday 11th

Thursday Back 9

What a beautiful day!
There were twelve lovely ladies who came and played today... and we were so lucky with the weather :-)

It was great to be out on our amazing course... even if our golf wasn't amazing...well, not for most of us anyway!

Jenny was our star of the day though, winning with a fabulous score of 18 points and that included a blob!    Well played!
2nd and 3rd could not be separated even using countback!
So well played both Lyn and Jane!

I'm afraid  I didn't take any photos today but here's something that might make you smile.

Our new Captain's at Pavenham used to undergo a Drive in with a difference...

...this was mine!

The buckets were full of a mixture of milk and water from the nearby pond... leaves,
 ice and all!

By the end of my year I had grown my hair long...with the aim of raising some money for charity...

The ladies at Pavenham cut and coloured it...

What fun!

And now my Captain's year at Cape is almost over... it has been an amazing year! Thank you for all your support and putting up with all my craziness!

Saturday 6thJanuary

Medal

It was awe inspiring finding a beautiful thick frost on the car this morning!
Such amazing patterns!

There were 8 lovely ladies who competed in the medal today. Ros came to play 11 holes and Claire and Jayne came later to play a few holes and a lovely number came for coffee!
It was lovely to see everyone!

What a beautiful day it was!

One of the delights of this time of year are days like today... gorgeous blue skies, amazing cloud formations and shadows that are long, defining every mound and turn of the course.
The seas were amazing too...

There were a 5 bunkers full of water so we took them out of play before we began.  The rest of the course was great although showing the signs of a struggle with the rain we have had!
There is a hole developing just to the right of the fairway as you near the 16th green. Mark has marked it as GUR and will keep an eye on it in case it deepens and spreads.
Many thanks as always to the greenkeeping team for all that they do.

It was a delight to be out there today.

The winner of the medal was Jane with a Nett 80, with Sue D in second with Nett 81.

Well played ladies!
Next Friday is the Presentation Evening, with the AGM on Saturday - hopefully see you then.

Christmas Catch Up

Christmas 2017

The weather put paid to golf over the Christmas period!

The fun Competition - The Chicken Chase on the 23rd  - didn't happen because of the weather but lots of us met for coffee and mince pies.

My family were all there too so it was a great chance for Phil and the others to catch up with the ladies at Cape. I know they have really appreciated all the support you have given them.

The following Thursday (the 28th) my family were all leaving so Sue D was in charge - just herself, Lyn and Lindsay played and Lyn was really on fire!

Saturday the 30th should have been a Greensome but the weather put paid to it!
I had had to withdraw anyway as I had gone down with the horrid cold/cough, but Sue decided to call it off when the weather was so poor.

2018

That brings us to tomorrow which is looking a little blustery and Saturday's Medal which is looking better but cold.

Hopefully I'll see some of you there...

Presentation Evening is on Friday 12th January - don't forget to book behind the bar so they have the correct numbers.

Saturday 13th is the Ladies AGM and 11 holes... hope to see you then if not before!
