Admiration Cup and Back Nine Thursday

Admiration Cup

What a perfect day!

Conditions were gorgeous for the playing of the Admiration Cup today. Four ladies competed for the trophy - well done each.

The ladies were playing behind several groups of visitors so it was more than a little slow for them, however they were patient... in second place was Lynn with 25 points
and in first place with 26 points was Pam!
Congratulations Pam!
Well done!

Thursday Back Nine

While the Fab Four were fighting it out for the Admiration Cup ten other ladies were enjoying the back 9 including Lyn's friend Liz who joined us a couple of times last year.

There were two shots of the day... first a frivolous one... picture the bunker on the 12th... Lindsay's ball sat merrily in it and in front of her stood the face of the bunker with a very cosy looking rabbit hole... you can guess where the ball ended up!
Good aim Lindsay!

To a less enjoyable shot... Ros was in front of the orchard on the 15th and played her ball. It hit the wall at speed and came straight back at her...she decided the best action was head it out of the way! Fortunately Ros was ok afterwards but has a nasty bruise to show for it... hope you're ok Ros?

A timely reminder for us to always take care!

Scores were very close, in third place was Lindsay with 15 points; in second was Ros with 16 (well done...can't imagine why you blobbed the 15th!)
And our winner was Di (on countback of course!) with 16 points.

Well played everyone!

I just want to add...

Mark and Chris work so hard to keep our course in great condition.
Over the last few days they have been top dressing the greens... the lack of appropriate equipment means they have had to do this by hand.

Below is Chris "brushing" the dressing in!
This job takes Mullion 2 hours to do (all 18 holes) it has taken Mark and Chris 4 days...

Finally... below is the draw for the Bosullow Bowl on Saturday - don't forget it is a shotgun start at 9.00am

Congratulations and stuff!

Congratulations and stuff!

Firstly, a huge well done to Claire for winning at the Silver Meeting at Killiow.

Claire had a Gross 83;  Nett 63, winner of the Nett cup (Claire equalled the score of second place in the Scratch competition... !)
Fabulous play Claire - so well deserved (Claire had played a practice round to prepare for the competition)

Five Cape women played at Killiow altogether and none of us could match Claire's play. Fiona and Lyn came closest.
Well done all - flying Capes flag very well!

At the same time as our foray to Killiow, several ladies were playing at home... I do not know all the scores but I have heard tell of Sarah scoring 25 points over 9 holes!!
Is this some sort of record?
Well played Sarah! I'd love to see that card... there must have been a host of pars.
In second place was Judy who scored 17 points (but she needs a good talking to as she finished her round with three blobs!)

Anyway - well played all...

Saturday Ship in a bottle!

Apologies for the lack of detail in these posts... I was away at Richmond cheering on Bridgie who was running her first marathon (and getting all emotional as you do!)

Nineteen Capers competed for the Carmen Payne Trophy.

Great turnout - and some steady scoring.

Congratulations to Fi who put her Killiow practice to good use and won the trophy with a score of 39 points (7 pars and a birdie!)

In second was Captain Sue with 38 points who had a run of 6 pars... beginning on the 9th!
In third place with 35 points was Hilary, and in fourth with the same number of points was Frieda.

Two other folk must get a mention... Bev birdied the 6th...
and...
Bronwen birdied the 9th!!!

Fab play... well done all - for the full results click here.

That just about brings us up to date - there was no golf today (Thursday 20th) as the weather was too rough...and Saturday is looking decidedly unpleasant.

Finally... in case you wanted to see... here's Bridgie with her medal!

PS....

Ooops

and there was the Friendly at Killiow on Monday!

Eight lovely ladies played a very friendly friendly at Killiow. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and the scores were very close... Cape just running out winners by 5 points (I think)
The Killiow ladies made us very welcome and it was played in great spirit.

Friendly v Mullion

Cape v Mullion Friendly

What a lovely day we had today. We were visited by a team from Mullion to play a Friendly. The course was fabulous and the conditions were lovely.

We played an betterball stableford. Each playing our own ball off full handicap with the better score counting.

We then totalled all our scores together.
Cape came out winners (174 to 140) but everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

Our lovely playing partners
Bronwen birdied the second and followed that with a par on the third... our playing partners wondered what had hit them!
My claim to fame was a two on the 13th!

Thanks to everyone who played today. Di is still looking for another player for the Friendly at Killiow on the 18th, please let her know if you are available.

September Medal

September Medal

Saturday dawned grey, but dry with only a little breeze. Good conditions for golf and ten ladies signed in to play the Medal.

As the morning began we had jumpers on... but it warmed up a little and most of us reverted to tee shirts.

However as the morning passed and we began the back nine the wind began to pick up and the temperature dropped. It became a bit of a battle and by the end we were cold!

However none of that had an effect on out top three players  - all of them receiving handicap cuts for their good rounds.

Di and Ros could only be separated on countback... with Ros just pipping Di to second place!
Well played both - super rounds of Net 66!

But our winner was Fran with a fabulous Gross 85... Net 64!
What a super round!
It included a birdie on the third and six pars - well played!

Looking at the scores... other than our top three there was not a lot to choose between the rest of us.

The scores have led to handicap cuts for Fran from 21 to 19; for Di from 27 to 25;for Ros from 26 to 25;  and increases for Lyn and myself!

Next Saturday is the Carmen Payne, and before that a Friendly at home against Mullion on Monday and the County Silver Division Competition at Killiow on Thursday.

Well done all today.

Thursday 6th

Thursday Front 9

Mellow fruitfulness!

What a lovely day it turned out to be for playing golf!

It had started a bit grim for some with drizzle and mist but Cape was playing ball today and there were some good scores.

Ten terrific ladies played today and for a variety of reasons we were a little tardy to get going...

but good play ensued.

The course looking lovely
How about this for Judy's chip on to the green on the 4th!
Fabulous shot!
Judy almost holed it!
Judy however had bad luck on the 8th when she played her second shot...

...it got stuck in the wall!

How it managed that was beyond us... is was travelling at speed and the wall simply ate it up!

Chris lining up a chip shot with his spade!

Many thanks as always to our greenkeepers...the course is in fabulous condition.

In third place was yours truly with 19 points... including a birdie on the 4th.

There was almost nothing to separate first and second as they both had 21 points...

but in second was Captain Sue with 4 pars
and in first place with 6 pars (and a blob) was Lyn!
Great play!

Well done all

Well Done!

League Match v Porthpean

A huge well done to the team who played on Monday!

The conditions were nothing short of horrid... with a stiff breeze and  heavy drizzle sweeping across the course from the North.

Our wonderful team fought through it all and came out with a 6-1 win over Porthpean!
Well done team... playing for us were Captain Sue, Di, Fiona, Fran,  Hilary, Lyn and Ros.

This  should guarantee that Cape should be staying in Div 3 next year!

The CLCGA website is down at the moment so will confirm for sure as soon as we can.

Well done all who played during the season.

Bob Lynne Trophy

Bob Lynne Trophy

The Bob Lynne Trophy is a betterball drawn High/Low competition always lots of fun and beautifully prepared for by Lynne.

The lovely Trophy Table
We were 'welcomed' also with mist and drizzle and a strong breeze... some of us were fondly recalling last year's sunshine and afterwards enjoying Bronwen's hospitality because of a wedding at the club.

Brisons barely visible
The weather didn't stop us and as we continued it improved. We ended up stripping off the waterproofs and ended in tee shirts!

Eight teams took part and it was lovely to have Jean with us, playing her first 18 holes since her op. Great to have you back!
Captain Sue on the tee
As you can see from the pics we were all wrapped up at the start!

In our group we certainly had a lot of fun; we played (or saw) some lovely golf and we also had our moments of challenge - both golfing and otherwise!

As I left the 13th green I suddenly found myself looking at the clouds and very pretty they were too! It is a slippery slope that!

Much clearer by the 16th!
Countback had to be employed to identify third place... just pipping Antoinette and an on-fire Bronwen were ...
Lindsay and Jane

...with 37 points!

In second place with 39 points were Fiona and Jayne...
2nd Place
The winners were in a league of their own...

...scoring 44 points...

Bob Lynne Trophy Winners
Well played Sue and Frieda - no-one could match you today - a fantastic score - well played!

Many thanks to Lynne for all the arrangements and to Fran for the card marking and as always to Mark and his team for the course. It was a lovely competition.

Other stuff

Mark has put blue forward tees on the 12th, 14th and 18th holes. They are on the tees which we used to use (I daren't say they're on the old ladies' tees!!).
They are for the 36 and above handicappers for use on Thursdays and our internal trophy competitions. Many thanks to Mark and the committee for sorting this. Di is trying to get them approved for our qualifiers too (medal and stableford) but that may take a little time.

Captain Sue has decided not to have a Charity Day on Saturday the 13th October because she has a Charity Coffee Morning on the following Thursday.

That Saturday (13th October) marks a year to Phil finishing his cycle ride in Rome... so Sue has kindly agreed to let me arrange the competition on that day. Thanks Sue and I'll be in touch with details...probably a playing of the Brison's Babes v Tregeseal Tramps comp!

Also, Sue told us on Saturday that Steve is sponsoring a Trophy for our Thursday morning competitions. There will be a winter one and a summer one, beginning in October. Entry will be a one off payment of £3. A record will be kept of our scores on Thursdays and our best two scores will be used to find a winner. Many thanks to Steve and Sue for this!

Good luck everyone playing in the Bronze Div at Falmouth!

And to our League team playing Porthpean on Monday.

We lost our match against West Cornwall on Friday. The score was 4.5 to 2.5 so we got close! Well done all who played.
