New Handicap system

The New World Handicap System

The WHS comes in to effect on November 2nd... not long now.

Di has done an amazing job getting it all sorted and we have a page dedicated to it.

This is just an added extra... how to log on to the England Golf website and see what's what.

If you go to

https://members.whsplatform.englandgolf.org

you will find the following page

Your member id is your CDH number... then set yourself up a password. This will give you access to your results, handicap, scores etc.

For example... it shows you your most recent scores in graph form...

or in list form.

There may be some teething troubles at the start but hopefully we will get used to the system before too long.

Lady Captain's Charity Day

Lady Captain's Charity Day

Saturday dawned a bit grey and damp however that didn't put us off today's Charity Fundraiser, raising money for Cancer research.

The competition was a mixed one, at least one lady per team of three and with two scores counting.

Judy did a sterling task of collecting in our money; giving out the cards and taking pictures of the headgear!

We were also asked to don some special headgear... and it was lovely to see folk getting into the spirit of it !

Look at the example we were set by our Lady Captain!

£500 was raised altogether which was a fantastic achievement!

The winners were Fiona and Will with a score of 83 points! Fabulous job - well done!

In second place were our Lady Captain; the Men's Captain Geoff and Mr President Roy!

In third place were the three colourful reprobates above! Beating Fran, Brian and John on countback with 80 points!

Antoinette won the most drives on the fairway competition with 11! Well done!

The Best headgear was won by Ian with this wonderful creation!

Worthy winner of a Sunday roast dinner for two at the club courtesy of Leanne and Andy.

He was part of a piratical team!

Sarah thanked all those who took part and for the generous donation of prizes, plus Judy for her job signing folk in and to Di and Sue S for card-marking.

Some more of our headgear!

Some took social distancing very seriously!

...and of course a Scotsman!

I do not have everyone's pictures so if yours is missing... then if you send it to me via whatsapp I'll add it to this gallery of rogues!

Altogether it was a lovely day (despite the weather at the start). Kelly and Brandon laid on a lovely buffet for us at the end which was also very welcome... and oftentimes we remarked on how good the course is - thanks to Mark and his team.

Bingo Bango Bongo

 Bingo Bango Bongo

Looks can be deceptive...

...the blue sky and sparkling sea are hiding a strong (and fairly cool) wind!

Bingo Bango Bongo... we were so glad it wasn't a medal!

Saturday 10th October saw seventeen lovely ladies who entered this competition. We played in threes bar one group of two.

And what a laugh everyone seems to have had.

The format basically takes out any worry about getting to the green and makes you focus on the short game.

We did need to avoid what Captain Sarah described as rose fertiliser...

(horses had escaped from their field on Thursday (I think) and Mark and his team had spent some time mending hoof marks on the 8th and 9th greens. They had done a brilliant job.

The ones below were some light ones on the fairway!

Back to the competition... points are given for being first on to the green; being closest to the hole when everyone is on; and for being the first to hole their putt (playing in correct order of furthest away goes first).

Several ladies admitted to discovering tactics after a few holes... and it certainly made for a lot of fun.

This was Angie and Chris L stepping out the distances to see who should be first to putt!!!

Usually the scores are very close... but there were two outstanding scores of 26 and 24!

There were two with 21; three had 19; there were an 18, 17 and 16 and the five of us on 14!

Apparently...two ladies laughed so much on the first 11 holes they had no energy left to continue!

Anyway... our winner was Chris L with Sue D in second.

Antoinette pipped Liz to third place (on countback of course) then Jayne, Fran and Sue S followed with 19.

The wind made playing extremely challenging and we were indeed glad that the number of shots we took to get on the green weren't counted!

Next week is our Captain's Charity day... lets have just as much fun then!

October Medal

 October Medal

Saturday the third should have been this month's medal but the Mother Nature had other ideas!

Gale force 8 put paid to the competition - instead there was wind blown spume and a beautiful sea to behold!

It looks blowy for most of this week...lets hope it settles a bit so we can get some golf in.

Carmen Payne

 Carmen Payne

Saturday 26th September saw 17 ladies compete for the Carmen Payne Trophy.

Conditions were good though a fair breeze was blowing!

Play was a bit slow which gave time for some photos of the wonderful autumn colours.

The winner with a hard fought 36 points was Hilary - this round included 7 pars and a birdie on the 6th!

Well played Hils!

Lindsay and Judy both had 35 points - with Lindsay taking second place on countback and Judy scoring a two on the 5th! Well played!

In fourth place was Jayne with 34 points.

Well done everyone - the course is looking fabulous: many thanks as always to Mark and his team.
