Wheeler Bowl

Wheeler Bowl

Saturday 25th May was the Wheeler Bowl competition. This is a pairs aggregate stableford with the pairs drawn high and low.

There were 16 ladies playing and the weather had changed to cooler and breezy.

A beauty

Everyone found it quite hard work, and we felt cold! So when the rain began on 10 it was decided that the competition would be over just 11 holes.

However one team gelled beautifully and had a fabulous round.

There were 8 points between most of us...but the winners were 8 points ahead of everyone!

Amazing play!

In third place were Claire and Angie with 35 points; in second with 36 points were Lindsay and Fi but the winning team with 44 (!!!!) were Fran and Liz.

Well played you two - fabulous score!

May 20-24

 May 20-24th

Five of us went to the County Vets match at Weston-super-Mare and enjoyed amazing weather!

Hils teeing off on the first

The weather was glorious and the course was in lovely condition. Along one section there were great views out to sea.
A challenging par 3

The Cornwall team won the match and it was great to meet some new ladies form other Cornish Clubs...needless to say Cape Ladies had had the longest journey!!!

On Thursday we had our match against China Fleet, this was once again closely fought with two of the matches finishing on the 18th. China Fleet won 4 - 3 but we're getting closer!

It was an overcast day and sometimes breezy but the course was looking great bar a couple of damp patches. The welcome we received was very warm and we had a superb meal to finish.

Next week we have our first home match!

Brogan also held his beginners session on Thursday evening - I'm awaiting details.

Busy week!

Busy Week!

We've reached that time when ladies are off playing other courses quite frequently. Several played 27 holes at Tehidy on Wednesday... where this sort of thing happens!

Frieda!!!

Such skill Frieda!!!

On Thursday a few of us played a few holes in preparation for Falmouth; there was a committee meeting and in the evening Di and Brogan had the new players session. It was a slightly hazy day but the foxgloves are glorious.

On Friday we ventured up to Falmouth for the second of our league matches.

We were blessed with glorious weather and the course was in great condition.

The ninth.

The rough proved a challenge and once again all matches were hard fought.

The result was a win to Falmouth of 4.5 to 2.5.

Well played team!

Once again we had received a warm welcome and were well looked after.

On Saturday seven ladies turned up to play 9 holes, once again enjoying the sunshine.

Jayne and Sue then headed off to Bigbury where Jayne is competing in the Race to Woodhall Spa - what was once called the medal winners regional final.

Good luck Jayne... four rounds of golf in four days is an awful lot!

And as if that wasn't enough...several ladies are playing in the County Vets at Weston-super-Mare tomorrow!!!

Saturday Scramble

 Saturday 11th May

Last week we decided  that today we would play a fun two ball scramble and it was lovely to have 16 ladies playing!

The weather held sunshine, blue sky and also a fairly strong wind.

It was lovely to see so many playing and to see the improvements on the course. The only difficulty was how long it took to play; a scramble always takes longer, but unfortunately we quickly caught up a very slow men's fourball and it slowed us all down considerably
- we were on the course for 5 hours in the end!

Winning team!

On the bright side it was sunny and beautiful and there were some good scores.

There were only seven points between all eight teams, in second place were Di and Fran with 72 and our winning team were Lindsay and Lyn with 71!

Well played all!

Busy Thursday!

 Thursday 9th May

Thursday was a busy day with seven ladies heading up the A30/39 and off to Polzeath for the first of our league matches and four other ladies playing the front nine.

Well done to Angie for another win (you star!) and lovely to have Lyn playing again and coming second - well done guys!

The Point at Polzeath was looking amazing in the sunshine. (Sorry I forgot to take pics.) There was a blue sky, a gentle breeze and real warmth in the air.

The Point ladies were very welcoming and everyone had a closely fought contest.

Polzeath were winners 6-1.

It felt good to be out starting the league season again...I for one felt rusty in terms of my decision making for matchplay and I guess others felt similarly. But first match done and next Friday we are off to Falmouth for our second match.

We had a fabulous choice of meals and were really impressed with the course, the greens were super. They explained how much the last week or so had helped no end - every course has struggled with the unrelenting winter weather.

Thanks to Sue D for arranging our matches again this year and for those who played- our team at Point were Sue D, Hilary, Fran, Lindsay, Jayne, Frieda and myself.

Onwards and upwards.

Polglase 2

Polglase 2

Today was the first Polglase competition we have been able to hold this year and it was Polglase 2 - a stableford. (Polglase 1 had had to be postponed because of the awful weather last month)

The course is improving by the day and looked lovely looking down the first with the definition of fairway and rough.

Ten ladies were able to play the 18 hole competition and Sue S and Chris joined us for 11 holes.

The weather looked good... but every single one of us found it tough out there!

It was looking beautiful!

Angie and I both lost three balls each...others lost two...and clever people lost none or only one!!

Despite that it was good to be out there and three more of the greens were back in play which was great.

Our winner was Hilary with 30 points, in second was Jayne with 29 points and in third was Fran with 28. The rest of us followed on with many in the mid twenties.

Thanks to Di for coming and doing the cards.

It was hard work but it almost felt like the beginning of the season as some had turned up in shorts or cut offs ...roll on summer!

Adventurous Ladies!

Adventures Abroad

One of the great things about our group of women at Cape is the adventurous spirit we have, playing golf all over the place!

So here are some pictures from two recent forays abroad.

One group headed to Portugal...   they had sunshine but one day was particularly chilly!

Looks like you need a blanket!

Alan P was winner of the Trophy!

Cyprus was also invaded ...

...where these two reprobates came back with the betterball Trophy!

Well done all... we missed you while you were away but it's great that we undertake these adventures.

May!

 May

Not quite sure how we got to May already but here we are!

There were just six ladies available to play today - our numbers remain low with various other golf commitments having a  noticeable impact on our numbers.

It was very grey but the ladies tackled the back nine. Jayne had a two on the 17th, Chris D birdied the 14th and Fi birdied the 16th!

In first place was Angie with 17 points and then of course we needed countback to decide the next places because Jayne, Antoinette and Lindsay all had 15 points!
In second was Jayne and third was Antoinette - hard lines Lindsay!

Well done all, it was lovely to have a chat over coffee afterwards.

The 9th, 10th and 14th greens will be back in play from tomorrow which is good news.
