League v St Mellion

Home match

Our first home match (against St Mellion) was called off in the end due to fog. Their team all arrived but after waiting some time for a break in the fog it was decided safest to make another date.

It was disappointing after all the fine weather we have had... but fingers crossed for our next match.

Thanks to Hils  and Lyn for standing in for me.

Wheeler Bowl

 Wheeler Bowl

Saturday 24th May saw 7 pairs compete for the Wheeler Bowl. In days gone by this was a Foursomes Medal but is now a far more forgiving pairs stableford aggregate played off 95%.

It was grey and damp with a wind that strengthened and we were all a bit tired by the end!

So most of us struggled to post a good score, however in third place were Sam and Liz with 66 points; in second were Fi and Ros with a creditable 71 points and the winners, with a fabulous 78 points, were Fran and Lyn!

Well played both, a super score!

League match v Carlyon Bay

 Thursday 22nd May

Thursday saw seven of us venture up to Carlyon Bay for our second league match of the year.

The weather was absolutely glorious, we thought it might be a bit hot on the course but the lovely breeze kept us cool.

The course is in fabulous condition and the greens were very fast. Apparently the greens had improved over the last couple of days as they have had a bit of leather-jacket trouble.

The course was busy so we waited fairly often although that's not so bad when we had weather like this!
We all found playing the back 9 a challenge, it was into the wind as well as long and uphill, but everyone seems to have enjoyed the day.

We lost the match 6-1 which sounds like a bit of a walkover but that was far from the truth!

Five of our matches were decided on the 18th! That must be some sort of record for us! And four ladies had to play below handicap so I was immensely proud of how everyone played. The Carlyon Bay ladies were very welcoming and good company to play alongside. The food was also very good and plentiful!

The team were Fi, Fran, Lindsay, Lyn, Ros, Sue and myself.

Well done all...our first home match is next Thursday against St Mellion.

Coronation Foursomes

 Coronation Foursomes

Saturday 17th May saw 4 teams playing, several ladies were away (including myself so I cannot report any exciting incidents!) but I believe the weather was good as the scores were good four foursomes!

Fi and Ros were third with 34 points,

Claire and Ann were second with 35

and wining team were Hils and Fran with 36, this included a birdie on the 11th and two blobs!

Well played all!!

Bonus!

It has been good to see some ladies clothes in reception. These are from Chris Gill who was the pro at Newquay until recently and is becoming more involved at Cape.  Prices are negotiable - speak to Steve if you're interested in anything particularly.

Anniversary Scramble

 Anniversary Scramble

Sunday started very damp and windy but the teams braved the elements and were rewarded with improving weather. By the time we'd played played about 10 holes the rain smatterings had stopped and we could take off some layers!

Sadly there were only six teams able to play this year;so many issues are challenging our playing at the moment, hopefully things will get better in time. The bluebells between the 10th and 11th were looking glorious.

The Texas scramble format is always fun as we end up laying shots from unusual places! Our only concerns are getting on the necessary drives - four each this time.

I was very fortunate with my team... we all contributed to the score, notably Lachlan who put his drive on the 11th on to the green (that's the old 4th) and then Martin sank the putt!!!

Very happy winners!

Well played everyone... and to those who weren't able to join us, we miss you and hope you'll be back soon.

Polglase 3 and VE Day

Polglase 3

Polglase 3 is the Par competition. We play match play against the course and as we always say it feels such an unforgiving format!

We were blessed with gorgeous weather with a breeze picking up towards the end.

Scoring is difficult, trying to win against the course is very difficult and in our group 6 balls were lost (four of them were mine!!!). However  one of our number played very steadily - Fi won being 1 up after 18 holes.

Fi's recovery form the wall on the 17th

Sue D was second being one down.

Fi's win meant that the Polglase Trophy was all done and dusted! Fi has one all three of the Polglase competitions so has won the trophy!

Well played Fi - it is well deserved.

Well done all who played today!

Once again we had a lovely choice of food and a lovely time chatting over our lunch!

VE Day

On Thursday we didn't have our usual 9 hole comp but took part in the VE Day commemoration competition over 18 holes. It was a 666 format, with teams of three recording one score on the first 6 holes, two scores on the second 6 homes, and all three scores on the final six.

How good do Lyn and Sue look!

The competiton also included the seniors on Friday and the winning team came in with a score of 81 points. Well played Hils team who were third, and to the two all ladies teams who also played!

Well done all.

And Finally, here's our Lady Captain keeping a visiting Rugby team in order!

County Spring Meeting

County Spring Meeting

Wednesday 7th saw Hils, Claire and myself go to Tehidy to play in the County Spring Meeting. Conditions were fabulous and the course was in great condition.

And Cape did well!

Claire and I had the same score of a Nett 69 and the result was decided on Countback of course!!!

Carmel from Falmouth won the Main trophy with a gross 77 which is an amazing score.
So Claire and I were first and second in the Handicap competition!

May!

 May!

Somehow or other we have arrived at May!

The end of April

Six ladies were able to play in the Back 9 Qualifier on Thursday 1st May and of course countback was needed to separate the first three players! They all scored 14 points with Fran coming out on top, Fiona second and Lindsay in third!

In contrast on Saturday 3rd we had 14 players plus Sam who joined us for the first time in an age!

What a lovely turnout it was for the Polglase 2 Stableford round. Unfortunately we had very strong winds all the way round, in fact they strengthened as we went.

Heading up the 13th

We were in cloud most of the time...but when  we looked toward and beyond the coast it told a different story

Blue sky envy

30 mph gusts don't improve our golf, although they helped on occasional holes!

In third place was Fran with 32 points; in second was Liz with 33 points and in first place with a super 35 was Fiona!

Fiona's round included two birdies (on 16 and 17) but also 4 blobs which summed up the awkwardness of that wind!

Well done Fi!

Fi is leading the Polglase trophy overall with two wins and 20 points! The nearest to Fi is Lindsay who has 12 points then Fran with 11!

Well done everyone who played today...it was tough!
