League v China Fleet and Holman and the Carmen Payne that wasn't!

Cape v China Fleet

Our home match against China Fleet was played today (Thursday 26th).

I had woken early morning to see thick fog out of my bedroom window!!! Much to my great relief it was gone by about 6 and we played our match in lovely sunshine a a good breeze.

Cape Looking lovely!

We are beginning to get the hang of playing the course this way round, and I think it helps in matches to get the physically tough holes out of the way early on!

We had sunshine and a scattering of clouds.

Our visitors found the speed of the greens their main difficulty and we all won our matches so we won 7-0.

A fantastic score! Well played everyone!

The food was superb too, many thanks to Ali, Ian and the team - the lady I played against said it was the best match meal she had ever had!

Our team were Hils, Sue, Fran, Frieda, Lyn, Lindsay and myself.  Thanks too for International Rescue in the form of Sue S who hurried a trolley and battery over for us!

Well done all!

Holman Trophy

This was played on Wednesday at Tehidy - a 32 hole competition which our Lady Captain came 4th in...

Well played!

2nd, 3rd 4th and 5th were all decided on Countback as they all had 69 points!!! Hard luck Hils but well played., a great score.

Stableford not Carmen Payne!

The previous Saturday we were due to play the Carmen Payne but because of poor weather we changed it to a Stableford because some folk couldn't play with a delayed start due to thunder and lightning!

After the storm!

However eight ladies were able to play with Chris D recording a winning score of 35; with Lindsay in second also with 35 and Liz in third with 34.

Well played everyone!

More mizzle and the Aussie Spoons

No-show Thursday and the Aussie Spoons.

Thursday 12th was grey and damp and though several met up, it was just for coffee in the end!

Aussie Spoons

Saturday 14th was a beautiful day for  the Aussie spoons, 6 teams entered. This is a foursomes stableford.

Unfortunately I still hadn't remembered how to swing a club but others did and came in with excellent scores.

In third place with 36 points were Lyn and Sue, in second were Fran and Hilary with 37  (including birdies on 9 and 17!) but our winners with a fabulous 39 points were Liz and Frieda!

Well played both!

Conditions were certainly lovely and the course looking really good.

Sunday Medal and League v St Mellion.

Sunday 8th June

Hils parring the 6th!
Saturday turned out damp and miserable so the weekend competition was held on the Sunday instead.

Great idea ladies!

There were some super scores in, notably Fran who had a nett 61!! This exceptional score saw Fran's handicap cut from 28.6 to 26.9! Super stuff!

Fran won by 6 shots over Lyn who had a nett 67  and Fi with a nett 71

Well played everyone!

League v St Mellion

The next day we headed for St Mellion for our away match there.

We had been told that probably no buggies would be available for Claire as they were all booked out...but when we arrived there were many!! Very frustrating especially for Claire who had taken time off work to play.

Lindsay had come in Claire's place and had her own adventures with her trolley breaking down after 9 holes!

We had also been expecting play to be slow but there were no holdups on the course and we got round in decent time.

Unfortunately I seemed to have forgotten how to play golf and mostly we struggled as a team but two of our ladies won their matches - well played!

We lost the match 5 - 2.

We enjoyed a lovely meal afterwards and had uneventful journeys home.

Well done team; Hils, Fi, Sue, Fran, Frieda, Lindsay and myself - a great effort.

League v Carlyon Bay

 League v Carlyon Bay

Thursday 5th June saw Carlyon Bay venture to our doors. The weather was overcast and a bit of a breeze. All the Carlyon Bay ladies had to give us shots, and they were good players.

The result was a win to Cape, 5 games to 2.

Well played everyone, we all found the matches a challenge. The course had the extra challenge of the broken down Mower on the 10th, but the greenkeeping staff had done a good job of getting the course ready including marking some of the bunkers GUR.

The team today was Hils, Fi, Fran, Lyn, Sue, Frieda and me.

Many thanks everyone - well done!

The Flag competition that we were due to play last Saturday was abandoned because of fog!

It did clear up later but not in time for the resumption of the competition...so maybe it will be played on another day!
