Captains' Charity Day

 Captain's Charity Day

What a day!

Hilary and Norman had arranged a pairs betterball competition with a shotgun start and it was brilliant to see the course absolutely full!

Everyone found it tricky with the ball running and I for one was very grateful to be in a buggy as it helped with ball spotting and finding!

Bunchy did the honours with the auction, setting and raising the bidding on  rounds of golf at various places around the UK; a variety of meals; a golf lesson and Harry Hall's Hat among others!

There are pictures on Facebook I believe but I'm thrilled to say the day raised £2500 for Hils and Norm's charity 'We Are With You'. Awesome indeed!

Norman spoke of how the charity had been a great support to Katie.

For the first time ever there was a presentation of a Men's Charity Cup named in memory of Norm's great mate, Paul Ferris.

Winning prizes is unimportant compared with what life throws at us however

the Ladies Charity cup was won by Lyn and Sue D, with Claire and Ros in second place!

Lindsay 'I never get a two', got another two (the first one was yesterday!) this time on the 12th hole!

Longest drive on the 2nd and Nearest the pin on 4 I claimed! And Chris L claimed the one on the 3rd.

I cannot remember all the men's prizes  but the inaugural Paul Ferris Trophy was awarded to Cyril and Robin. Well played boys!

A great barbecue was enjoyed on the terrace with live music from BandEkoot accompanied by lots of singing and dancing!

It was great to see old members and friends too.

A really special day... thank you Hils and Norm.

Carmen Payne

 Carmen Payne 2025

Thirteen players entered the Carmen Payne Trophy competition on Saturday 24th August.

It was another glorious sunny day and fortunately the fierce wind of late had dropped!

The course is so dry and the greens, which have quite a bit of treatment this week, were not easy to putt on.

It's lovely to see  a good number of players out on the course,  though the challenges of Cape in the hot dry conditions make rounds a bit slow from ball hunting! A buggy can be a great help with this!

There were two twos today! Fi had one on the 12th  and Lindsay had one on the 4th! Well done you two!

Countback was needed to separate Fi and Sue D who both had 35 points. Sue pipped Fi to third place.

Then we have a superb score of 40 from Lyn! Brilliant second place, and in first place with a sparkling 43 points was Fran! That's 6 pars and the equivalent to playing to a handicap of 15.6 on the day!

Fabulous score and a fabulous win!

Carmen Payne Trophy winner Fran!

Well played Fran and all who played.

21st August

Thursday 21st August

These pictures are from the Wednesday...shows the dryness of the course

And also where the fire had been on Saturday, it stills smells of smoke! We are pleased that the Club have asked folk not to smoke anywhere on the course.

The patch looks quite small in this photo but reaches right down over to the coast path.
No-one wants these back!

And clearly pretty fierce when you see the effect on what were a couple of balls lost in the bracken!

On the Thursday itself a Par Bisque was played, I don't have details of how many played but I believe Sue D was the winner with Fran in second! Well played both.

Saturday 16th August

 Saturday

Saturday dawned really windy with a strange light. A few of us were signed up to play but despite misgivings four of us actually went out to play - others were far more sensible deciding that 30 mph wind with gusts of 40 mph was not helpful to golf!

A sheltered moment!

And they were right.

We played till the start of the 6th where we decided we'd all had enough...a few lost balls and trolleys upending made for an easy decision and we went back in for coffee!

The most interesting occurrence was the presence of the fire brigade near the 18th tee!

There was a gorse fire and the fire service were in attendance for quite a while. All sorted by the time we left.

Thursday

 Thursday 14th August

There were just four of us playing today and it was grey but warm like yesterday!

The lovely thing to report is that Chris L played...the first time in quite a while ...last week's attempt was thwarted by the weather...

and... that Angie joined us for coffee as Pete and Archie were playing.

So though nothing to report on the golf but joyful to see Angie and Chris!

Club Championship weekend.

 Club Championship

The weekend of August 9th and 10th saw the Club Championship Competition.

This had been postponed from July when we had to stop because of fog.

Perfect weather!

Conditions were fantastic with little wind and bright sunshine, but the result of all that sun is a faster and faster course.

It really was a challenge out there!

There were 7 ladies able to play.

The Best Nett competition was won by Frieda with a Nett 142; in second and third were Fi and then Sue D both with 144.

Best Nett

Club Champion

Our Club Champion for 2025 was Fi with a Gross score of 182; Hils was in second with 186 and Sue D third with 190.

Well played to the winners and to everyone who played because of the challenge of the course today!

Hole in One!!!

 Hole in One

Our fab Lady Captain got a hole in one yesterday!

What a star!

This was  on the fourth hole in the open mixed competition which runs all week!

Super stuff Hils!

Absolutely brilliant!

Ps  Thursday's golf was once again thwarted by mist and fog!

Fog and Vets Vase

 Foggy Thursday

Thursday was another grey damp day so no golf happened...but a few of us met for coffee and Di had a go at sorting out the broken glass shelf in the trophy cabinet.

We think only one of our trophies was damaged...I guess we'll find out in time...

Saturday Medal and Vets Vase

Nine ladies were able to play in this trophy competition and some super scores were posted...six of the scores were nett 70 or less!
Great scoring.
In third place on countback was Ros with a nett 68, just being pipped by Fiona who also had a nett 68. The winner was Frieda with a magnificent 64!

Well played Frieda!

Sue D and Hils also both had nett 69s and Lyn a nett 70 so it seems it was a great day for golf!

Well played everyone!
