Bosullow Bowl

Bosullow Bowl

Saturday 13th September saw 12 pairs take on the Bosullow Bowl Trophy Competition.

This is the Mixed Greensome begun by Anne and Tony Jones, played off the ladies card with men teeing off the whites and the ladies off the reds except for 10 and 16 where the ladies play off the yellows.

As we arrived we had the threat of rain along with a brisk breeze. Fourteen teams had hoped to play but the heavy rain of Friday had meant that initially buggies were off so two teams dropped out.

In the end buggies were allowed at drivers discretion which enabled some to play. We missed you though Chris L and Sue S.

Annie was smiling down on us and it wasn't long before the sun was coming through, though she left us with the breeze!!

There were some good scores and more than a handful of birdies.
There were two twos (Sue D and Chris W, Claire and John S) and 13 birdies mostly coming on the 10th and 16th!!

Almost unbroken sunshine by the time we finished

Scores were very close with 6 teams within two points of each other!

Notable in the scoring (but not in the winnings!) were Claire and John S whose back 9 comprised of 2 pars, three birdies and an eagle! Awesome!

In third were Bruce and I with 40 points, this included a birdie and 8 pars;
in second place, also with 40 points were Antoinette and Roy, including 5 pars;
and in first place, also with 40 points, were Chris and Norman D with a par and two birdies.

Congratulations Chris and Norman - well played!

Well done everyone - what a lovely competition - so grateful for the sunshine!

Millennium Trophy

Millennium Trophy

Wednesday lunchtime saw our Captain Hilary take to the Falmouth course for the final of the Millennium Trophy.

This is the knockout competition for the Captains of Cornish Clubs and Hils was our representative this year having won our Cape Millennium competition last year.

Hils had won all her matches and was playing against Brenda from Lanhydrock in the final.

The day was squally showers, strong wind and sunshine! Waterproofs and umbrellas were constantly being used but the sun was lovely when it came out.

Linda, the Captain of the Captains Society hosted and acted as a referee.

Hils had to give 14 shots!

The course was in good condition and there were no holdups which was great.
The match itself was very close with some lovely play.

Hils was two up on the 17th and played two magnificent shots straight down the fairway to give herself the opportunity of winning the match...which she did on the green with a win 3 and 1.

A lovely afternoon tea was enjoyed with the presentation of the trophy

Super play Hils, hard fought and a very well deserved win!

Well played Cap'n

Medal and WRVS Trophy and Presidents' Cups

 Medal and WRVS Trophy

Saturday 6th September was the monthly medal and WRVS Trophy.

Once again it was bright with a brisk breeze; eleven ladies were available to play and considering the wind there were some good scores.

In third place was Lyn with a nett 77; countback was needed to divide first and second with me in second with a nett 75 and Chris D winning on countback on the last 6 holes.

Well played Chris!

The Presidents' Cups were due to be played for on the Sunday but the forecast of heavy rain led to this being called off... and it did pour on the Sunday morning so it was a good decision!! It has been rescheduled for Sunday October 12th.

Poldhu Cup

Sue D, Frieda and Fran played in the Pokghu Cup at Mullion on Friday with Sue coming 4th and Fran winning nearest the pin on the 11th!

Well done girls, keeping the Cape flag flying high!

Catch up!

 Cancellation, League, Molson Coors Scramble

The Abbotswood Trophy was due to be played on Saturday 30th August but yet again the weather scuppered our chances to play.

However the weather was decent enough to play our final league match on the following day.

It was breezy though and it was a close run thing with us beating Bude 4 games to 3.

Well played all, the team was  Claire, Fiona, Fran, Hils, Lindsay Sue and me.

This gives us 8 point in the league, at the moment in third place of 5 but with two matches left that other teams have to play.

We may stay in Div 1 or move down to Div 2. Either way we've had a great year despite the challenges arising from our small numbers and handicaps.

Altogether ten of our ladies have played so my thanks goes out to them all.

They are Claire, Hils, Fi, Fran, Frieda, Lindsay, Lyn, Ros, Sue and myself.

Thanks everyone!

Molson Coors Scramble

Wednesday 3rd September was the Molson Coors Open Scramble which turned out to be great fun for all those who could play.

It was bright and breezy and there were some fantastic scores too with the winning team of Roger Nicholas, Terry Dodd, Gary ODonnell and Martin Kaluza having a gross score of 57 and nett score of 51!

A group from Falmouth were second with a nett 54 on countback from another Cape Team of Chris Wade, James McMullen, Bruce Pow and John Stock.

There was one all ladies team of Sam, Fran, Jayne and Liz who came in with a nett 58 taking 13 place. There were 26 teams whose cards were recorded!

I think everyone who played had a fabulous day!

Thanks to Cape for all aspects of the organisation.
