Dartmouth Day 2
It dawned bright and sunny with a chill in the air early on.
After a good breakfast, Hils gave us our tee times for the round. In my case I was in need of a buggy a yesterday's round had taken its toll.... getting on for 10 miles walking in the day had left my back painfully tight, so taking Hils and Angie's advice I opted for a buggy.
It did the trick perfectly!
3rd hole |
The weather was really lovely and was even warm and the course was looking even better than yesterday.
It was lovely to have Dorothy with us for the first 9 holes... she really enjoyed walking the flat parts in the sunshine.
Another good thing was having par threes that were within reach of one shot! It was nearest the pin on the 5th; huge well done to Val G in the silver Div and Chris J in the Bronze for getting nearest to the pin.
There were also positively enormous bunkers, FULL of soft sand - and lots of them!
The longest drive competition was on the 10th and the winner in the Bronze group was Liz who actually managed to hit the Bronze marker before the ball bounced onward!
The winner of the silver group was Claire - well done ladies!
There are several really tricky holes at Dartmouth where you have to carry the ball over a good distance, and the final hole is like that!
It has to be said that we left several balls out on the course in water... but I am delighted to report that after a long deliberation (while we watched the group in front) Liz decided to take her driver and go for it - and she succeeded! Brilliant!
The weather was so lovely we were able to sit out on the balcony while the remaining groups came it...we didn't waste that time!
As we enjoyed our refreshments Hilary collected in the fines we may have incurred whilst we were playing! Some more than others!
However, one of our number had incurred NO fines... so she was fined anyway for being perfect!
All the fines added up to £90 which Hilary presented to Di after Saturday's medal. The money will go into the charity - the Blood Bikes and Riding for the disabled.
Well done all for your generous behaviour!!!!!
After our refreshments we had time to change before meeting in 204 for our award giving!
This didn't start strictly on time because DI Hils Brown was trying to get to the bottom of a mysterious note that had appeared under her door early in the morning asking her to go to reception!
Remember the date?
Eventually the culprit owned up... and received her just desserts!
There wasn't a lot of space in 204 but we all managed to get in...
As you know we all had a guess at the number of balls we might lose over our two rounds... and our winner was Frieda with a perfect guess!
How many did we lose... 93!
The Marilyn Pengelley Trophy
This was awarded for the first day's round of golf. We had each played an individual stableford and then sleeping partners were drawn.
In third place were Sarah and Judy with 52 points,
in second were Chris L and Sue D with 57 points
and in first place and winning the trophy were Jane and Chris L with 61!
Well done all!
The Away Days Trophy
The results of our individual stableford on the Monday were as follows...
in 5th place on Countback (of course) was Bev with 30 points; in 4th was Hilary with 30 and in 3rd place was Sarah with 31.
Well done ladies!
In second place with a lovely 36 points was Sue D
and the winner of the trophy with a fantastic 38 points was Jane!
Super job!
Val G thanked everyone for the invitation back to the away days and read a lovely poem which Anne had written, we then raised a glass to all our absent friends.
To finish, Lyn presented Hilary with a thank you present from the ladies - well done Hils, a great weekend!
Finally... some assorted pics...
It was lovely to have Dorothy with us for the first 9 holes... she really enjoyed walking the flat parts in the sunshine.
Freida and Dorothy One of the things which we had to learn to deal with was penalty areas, (having none at Cape). i for one needed to check up on how to deal with a ball in the Red staked areas. |

There aren't really any lay-up areas on the 18th |
Plus there's this great tree to get past (plus nesting Canada goose!) |
