Thursday Front 9

 Thursday 8th April

Yesterday we played the front 9 as a practice for a WHS stableford qualifier.

There were more new things to take in of course!

Because of the new WHS system both the front and back 9 have their own slope index which is why there are different adjustments to make to our handicaps and different stroke indices too.

One approach is to think that the front and back 9 are no longer two halves of our 18 but two separate 9 hole courses - I found that a useful way to think.

Once we'd made these adjustments and were out playing it seemed a much fairer system than the one we tried out in 2017.

We will have to see how it impacts on our handicaps when we enter the scores next time but it certainly appears fairer than the before.

Thanks Di for all the work that has gone on behind the scenes. The WHS system has created a lot of work and calculations but hopefully will be a much fairer system for everyone.

The only photo today is to show the progress of 'Crocodile Creek' - the new water feature.

It looks almost deep enough to swim in!

Golf Access has started, with youngsters coming on Sunday afternoons and adults on Thursday afternoons. A lot of fun seems to be taking place and progress made too!

The course is looking absolutely amazing. Huge thanks to greenkeeping staff and also a reminder to everyone to smooth the sand in bunkers as best you can after you've played.

A reminder: England golf say that preferred lies in bunkers is 6" and is acceptable while Covid restrictions are in place. You are not allowed to smooth the sand before you place it; of course you can play it as it lies if it's ok.
