Lanhydrock Day 2

 Lanhydrock Monday

Monday dawned with strong winds and 40mph gusts and some torrential downpours!

First, breakfast called... was Antoinette carrying on from the night before?

😄

Possibly not... maybe it was something to do with the view from the window...

Flooded ninth green

The downpour had rattled the windows at breakfast and resulted in the flooding of the 9th green...we looked out with some trepidation but were assured that the showers were now going to miss us and that by the time we teed off at 11 am  things would be greatly improved... and indeed they were!

We remained dry for nearly the whole round... a threat of a shower happened once and rain jackets went back on briefly but fortunately it came to nothing!

The sixth hole from the tee

6the hole from above shows the challenge that lies in wait.

The course was very wet around the sixth
but Sue could not be stopped with a lay up followed by a really neat shot onto the green.

Sue parring the 6th (needless to say I lost another two balls here!)

Considering how strong the wind was we managed to complete the round without too much incident.

The fairways were wet and the ball would plug when it landed but we had the mats to play from and all things considered it was amazing to be playing!

I never tried the mat the other way up...but I think I should have!

By the time we reached the ninth green there was no sign of the earlier standing water - what an excellent job has been done with the drainage on this course.
It was on this hole that Fran had a goose slaying incident!! I believe the goose kept Fran's ball in play! Good shot Fran!

Looking back up the 7th

We were all exhausted by the time we finished...two rounds of 18 in two days is more than most of us have done in many many months!

We all needed refreshing!!!

Not much left...

There we go...all gone now!

Many of us soaked in a bath or shower then met up in Sue's and then it was presentation time.

We had all had a guess at the number of balls we might lose whilst we played...and the winner was Liz with the figure of 70... we actually lost  68!!!

Great guess Liz!!

It has to be said that it is a certain person's special birthday this year...and she was spotted celebrating it on the course!!

Happy Birthday Liz!!!!

We also had nearest the pin on the 15th again but this time in two shots...

Nearest the pin in two...it was a just a roll from being holed!

Then to the competition proper...in third place was Hils.

Third place Hils

In second was Sue D
Second place Sue D

And in first place was Claire!
Trophy Winner!

Well played Claire!

Well done all... it was a lovely weekend. Huge thanks to Jayne who organised everything, ably assisted by Fran - thank you both for all your work.

Thanks to all for the fun and laughter - we have a very special group of ladies at Cape; we really missed those that couldn't make it this year...but it was good to be together!

Lanhydrock 2024 was a lot of fun!
