League match v West Cornwall

League News

Friday saw us head off to West Cornwall for our next match. The met office had forecast strong winds and scattered showers and that is what we got - in fact we were very lucky as there was only one proper shower and in sheltered spots we could take our jackets off!

The course was in good condition and the greens were well grassed, lovely... and fast of course!

The competition was tough as we expected and the result was a win to West Cornwall 6.5 to 0.5.
The matches were well fought and played in a good spirit, we enjoyed a very nice meal afterwards too.

Well done all.

The team was Fi, Frieda, Hilary, Lindsay, Ros, Sue D and myself; thanks as always to Hils for doing all the prep and leading us into the fray and to West Cornwall for their welcome.

Thursday Morning

Thursday 25th April

Thirteen lovely ladies played in the competition this morning. Conditions were blue sky with a blustery wind and despite an early morning shower it remained dry.

The winner of the B group was Marion with a fabulous fifteen points - this included a four- pointer on the third! Well played!

In the A group it was a close run thing with countback being needed to decide each of the places! There were three ladies who came in with 14 points - not quite enough to be in the prizes though.

In third place on countback from Sue D was Chris L with 15 points.
In second was Ann with 16 points... but just pipping Ann to first place was Lindsay who also had 16 points!

Well done all! Good job we have countback to separate us!

Saturday's forecast is not good, despite sunshine gale force winds are expected so the Trophy competition has been re-scheduled for Saturday 25th May.

Tomorrow is our next League match - away at West Cornwall... good luck all!

Eggstravaganza

Eggstravaganza!

Wow!
What a difference!
Thursday was almost unplayable... and today...

...it was glorious!

Eighteen gorgeous golfers came to play the Eggstravaganza!

Many thanks to Di for arranging everything and to Lindsay for helping with the set up.

There were (apparently!) Easter eggs hidden on the course and if we found one we would get a reward! Only a few were discovered however so the others may still be out there?

Conditions were perfect and the course was looking lovely - the sunshine of yesterday had clearly helped the greens and they were playing so much better.

Keeping up the energy!
There was some good play going on with lots of pars on the course. Ann, Lindsay, Judy and Ros had two each; our Capt'n Di had 3;  two ladies - Sue D and Lyn -  had 3 pars and a birdie... Claire and Fi had 4 pars and a birdie; I had 5 pars...but none of this could match Hils who had 3 BIRDIES and a par!

It is almost needless to say that the scores were very close and we had to use countback to separate us!
The prizes today were not monetary but edible!
Yum!
In first place and choosing from the table first,  was Ann, sharing 34 points with Sue D in second.

In third, again using countback was Liz who shared 33 points with Hils!
In positions 5,6 and 7 were Fi, myself and Lyn... you guessed it... all with 31 points.
And so it went on... next both with 30 points were Claire and Lindsay; Ros and Angie shared 28 points... and it continued on!

Well played everyone - it was so good to be out on the course with no wind - unencumbered with layer upon layer of clothes and with the course looking so lovely.

For the full results click here.

Thanks as always to Mark and Chris for their constant work and to Ashley who welcomes us all with a smile despite everything.

While we were all together Sue D presented the Abbotswood Trophy to Jenny. This is presented to the player with the best scores in our Thursday morning competitions. It was donated by Steve and Sue D, and Jenny was the inaugural winner by a considerable margin.
Well played Jenny.

Di also gave the results of the Winter Eclectic.

The Best Gross was won by Fi with a gross 73!

The Nett prizes were also awarded.

In the B group the winner was Angie with a Nett 72.75

In the A group, in fourth place was Lindsay with a nett 69.5
in 3rd was Frieda with a nett 69.25,
in 2nd place with a nett 68 was Sue D
and in 1st place was yours truly with a nett 66!

Well played all. We are beginning to get busy now with matches, knockouts, friendlies, league and Tuesday evenings... not to mention any trips to other clubs we may have planned.
It almost feels like the start of the golfing year - so good luck everyone!
May we have sunshine and still wind from here on in!
(Well, you can always dream!)

PS Another reminder... there was an adder crossing the 17th fairway today...so keep alert.

When the Wind Blows

Thursday Back 9

When the wind blows...

40 mph gusts today at Cape... and yet we still venture forth!

Well done everyone!

We had assumed (rather foolishly as it turns out) that the holes from 12 onward would be sheltered from the strong south-easterly...   they weren't!

And playing up the 18th was nigh on impossible! None of us scored on it!

However, despite the wind there were some good individual moments... Sue D parred the 15th while the rest of us struggled (Liz, Ros and Lynne were the only other ones to score on that hole!)

Jean hit a wonder drive on the 14th...

Jean's drive on 14!
...it bounced on the bridge twice and sped to a lovely position on the fairway! She scored a 5 for 4 points on that hole!
Judy parred the 17th for four points and Liz parred the 12th for four points too.

The winner in the B group today was Angie, and the A group winner was Liz!
Well done both!
Sue D and I fought over second place with Sue pipping me on countback!

A huge well done to everyone who played today - apparently it does us good!

Daily Mail Foursomes

Finally, Judy and I played two ladies from Perranporth on Tuesday in the Daily Mail Foursomes. It was not the easiest of rounds despite the benign weather and unfortunately we lost on the 15th; we had given it our best shot.

Many thanks to Sue S and Chris L who came over to support us (against instructions!), it really did cheer us and for a while we hit some great shots!
Thanks guys!

Don't forget... Adders are around, they have been spotted on the 6th in the usual spot along the hedge.

Adders

Be aware that the adders have stirred - please keep a special eye out when on the course.

Polglase 2 Stableford

Polglase 2

Twenty two wonderful ladies were ready to compete today. We started in lovely sunshine and very strong winds. We were hoping that they might relent, but they only became more fierce.

We also wondered if it might be more sheltered as we went on but on the fourth teeing ground we couldn't even get the ball to stay on the tee.
It was time to call it a day  - it was becoming unsafe to play with trolleys tipping over - and with the ball moving on the green and off tee pegs so the decision was straightforward.

The Polglase 2 competition will now be played on Saturday the 29th of June.

The Abbotswood Trophy results were announced.
In the A group - in equal fourth place were Lyn, Frieda and myself with 62 points.
In third place was Chris J with 64 points.
In second place was Sue D with 66 points and the runaway winner was Jenny with 78 points!

In the B group the winner was Lynne with 52 points.

Well played all

Thursday 11th

Thursday 11th April

Glorious sunshine greeted us at Cape and there was another great turnout!

Eighteen lovely ladies signed in and headed out on the course where we found it was a lot chillier than it had looked! We needed our coats!
A few extra holes practice

However conditions were good and there were some good scores in.
The B group played off the blue tees and the winner was Lynne with a score of 19 points!
Well played.

In the A group Chris L was third with 16 points; Sue D was second with 17 points and our winner was Lyn with 18 points.

Well played all.

Maybe a timely reminder... I forgot to write my handicap on the card!
Disqualification followed as is necessary!

Hopefully I'll be more careful next time!

Saturday is the Polglase 2nd round - the Stableford; 22 are ladies signed up 😃 and the weather is looking fairly promising!
