Cape v Looe
Moday 11th May saw the lovely ladies of Looe come for our next league match!
May
Saturday 2nd was going to be a medal but the forecast for heavy rain meant we cancelled the official competition however the day turned out better than expected so a few of us went and played 9 holes for fun!
It was grey and overcast and the rain came in a lot later - but it was good to have a practice again!
Our match against Polzeath was planned for Thursday so a couple of us had a bit more practice on Wednesday morning and the weather was beautiful!
Past Captains
Monday 27th April saw five of Cape's past Captains travel to Carlyon Bay for the County Past Captain's Competition.
The weather was absolutely glorious and the course was in fabulous condition.
A couple of winners were Ros who had the best Bronze score of 40 points and myself who had the best front 9 score for silver players of 20 plus a two on the 11th hole!
But nothing could compare with Lindsay who won this trophy for the second time!
Fantastic play!
Well done - a course you clearly love playing on!
Dee and Ray's Trophy
What a glorious day we had for this lovely trophy competition.
The Dee and Ray Trophy is a Texas Scramble with drawn teams of three players (high, medium and low handicaps ) and taking a minimum of four drives each.
League v St Enodoc
Monday 20th saw us play our first League match of the year, at home against St Enodoc.
They seemed to think it was a bit breezy (it was a bit!) and they found the greens slow compared to their own.
In fact the lady I played against said that their fairways were as fast as our greens!
I'm happy to say that our individual match ended on the 12th hole!!!
Cape didn't lose any of the matches - two were drawn on the 18th hole - so we won 6 - 1 which is a lovely way to start the year.
Well played everyone in the team. which was ... Fi, Fran, Frieda, Hils, Ruth, Sam and Captain Sue D.
Our next match is away at Point.
Thursday 23rd April
Thursday was another lovely sunny day but extremely windy!
Just five of us turned up to play and we played two mulligans and in our group also added in the fun of choosing the club of someone else to use on the 3rd!
So Fi and I chose a 7 iron for Sam, and in the end we all three hit a 7 iron and they were all really good shots! One just short of the green, one on the middle of it and one just left! It showed us what we can do in a tail wind!!!
Easter and Beyond!
Easter demands with family visiting meant that I missed the Eggstravaganza and Jamie Crocker competition over that weekend...
However, eight ladies played in the Eggstravaganza with Lindsay winning the biggest Easter Egg with 33 points!
Hilarywas second with 32 and Fran was in third with 29!
Well done all...
The following day was the Jamie Crocker competition, I don't have all the details of the scores but Liz and Sam were third, Lindsay and Fi second and Fran and Steve Revill first were some of the prize winners!
Since then we had a very damp Thursday when no-one played.
The following Saturday had very blustery winds and the competition was shortened to 9 holes for a practice round.
Normal service should be resumed now the family have gone back!!!
Sunday 29th March
Bowood Park
Sunday morning - clocks change day - the Cape Ladies headed for Bowood Park for our Ladies away-days trip!
Everyone arrived in really good time and met for coffee in the bar area, then headed out in groups to play a singles stableford with secret partners for the final result!

| Lucky Frieda!! |
Along with the rain it was a bit windy too but we all looked forward to better conditions on the following day as the forecast was for unbroken sunshine!
In the evening we met up as usual for pre-dinner get together, and then headed to the dining area for our meal.
It was absolutely lovely to have Val with us, and Una too. There was lots of catching up to do and the evening shared many laughs.
Monday 30th
Well...what can I say? We expected to be playing in lovely warm sunshine...but the wind was so strong! It ended up being harder to score well despite the fact that it was dry!
Once again many put cards in for handicap, 11 of us today, which was great!

| We crossed a little covered bridge to reach the green. |
In the evening we had another lovely meal and the presentation.
Winning the lost balls competition was Jayne!
The longest drive and nearest the Pin on Day One were won by yours truly!
Captain's Handover and New Captain's Drive in
Saturday 28th March
Saturday morning was bright and breezy and lots of us were able to turn up for Claire's Drive in and the AGM.
As has become tradition now, we chose where we thought the two new Captain's would hit their drives - paying a pound for each guess.
Claire's shot was guessed by Fiona's Will, and Ryan's drive was guessed by Fran's Brian!
Well done everyone - £28 for the Captains' Charity - the Gaiety Girls.
We then had our agm which was well attended.
The business of the AGM was dealt with smoothly, deciding to return to practice/fun comps on a Thursday instead of the once a month Qualifying Comp, and a desire for real notice to be taken of course conditions during the winter months. We played Qualifying rounds several times this winter when really the course was not fit for qualifying. The new Competition and Handicap committee will (hopefully) be responsible for this.
With the arrival of Spring hopefully we will get more players back on the course on both Thursdays and Saturdays - remembering we can also enter the 18 hole Stableford competition on Wednesdays which is open to ladies and men.
The handover then took place.
Hello again!
Well! it's been a bit of a gap but here we go again for 2026!
The weather has taken its toll our competitions, both in numbers available to play and if they took place at all!
We had four comps in January when about 6 players played each time... our scores were well below our handicap - often the best scores were about 9 or 10 below handicap!
February weather didn't improve and we just had two comps, 8 played in the first and only 5 in the second. Again our scores were well below what we'd expect except for Frieda who relished the conditions on Valentines day!!
Then we began March and our numbers are beginning to pick up.
March 7th was the Polglase 1 Medal and 9 players entered.
Our winner was Lyn with a nett 75; in second came Fi with nett 76 and in third was Hils with a nett 81. Well played all!!
The following Saturday was a stableford which Hils won with 32 points; Frieda was in second with 29 and Claire third on 26.
Then at last we had Sunshine!!
Saturday 21st March was beautiful and was the last Saturday comp with Hils as Captain - 12 of us were able to play.
Countback was needed of course for the first few places!
Our winner was Sue S with 36 points on countback from Liz!
Third also had to be decided on countback with Fi, me and Hils all having 33 points...and Hils came out on top in that race!!
It was glorious to be out in the sunshine and with hardly any wind!
As you can imagine Thursdays were also seriously impacted by the weather with often only two or three people around to play.
The weather was fabulous to start with but along with the blue sky and sunshine was a bit of a chilly wind!
It certainly looked gorgeous!
Afterwards there was the presentation of the Trophy itself, along with the presentation of a cheque to "withyou" Hils and Norman's charity - and then presentation of various trophies.
https://www.wearewithyou.org.uk/
Hils and Norman had raised over £4000 for this charity - an amazing amount for a special charity.
The Trevelyan Trophy winners were Frieda's team!!!
