The Rest of September

 The Rest of September

Monday 21st was our final League match!

We were playing Carlyon Bay who were currently at the top of the league...a win for us would put us in their top spot!

The day started a bit misty, and the mist came in and out but conditions were good for play.

We had lovely support from Brian, John, Will  and also Ros who came to spot for us...and it helped...we won the match 7 - 0!

It was lovely also that Sue was there to lead us even though still not as a player, and she treated  us all to some bubbly to celebrate the win!

Well played everyone over the whole season!

Top of the division again and if everything stays the same we will be back in Div 1 again!

Pairs Final

Our ladies pairs final took place on Thursday 24th in beautiful conditions!

Hilary and Fran were playing Fran and Jenny, giving them 11 shots.

The match was hard fought with Jenny and Fi winning on the 16th hole!

Well played all!

Vice President's Cup

Friday 25th saw Lyn head to Falmouth to play in the County Vice-Presidents Final!

She was playing a lady from Looe with Chris Pountney overseeing the match.

Conditions were lovely and the match was played in super spirit. It was a close fought match which ended on the 16th hole!

Lyn and Margaret plus caddies.

Margaret from Looe was the winner - well played Lyn it was a tough match!

Bosullow Bowl

Saturday 26th was the lovely Bosullow Bowl competition inaugurated by Tony and Anne Jones.

This is always a special competition for us and is the fun format of Mixed Greensomes Stableford.

There were 12 pairs available to play and once again we had decent weather!

The winning score was 44 points notched up by our Captain Claire and her playing partner Rob Celentano!

Super score well played!

Second third and fourth all had 43 points!!!

What a competition!

On countback Fi and Will were second; in third were Frieda and John and in fourth were Lyn and Alan!

This is a great format for scoring well as we play off the ladies card but play off 10 and 16 from the yellow tees!

So among us all there were 40 pars and 14 birdies!

Standing out among all the teams were Hils and Joe Mc who individually had 9 pars and 2 birdies!!

Well done everyone - a great competition!

That brings us to the end of our September competitions!

September 19th

 Saturday 19th September

The club had organised a Festival week with a Ladies Open on the Saturday. It was basically a learning exercise as it was planned quickly.

This meant we tried inviting players from other clubs to come as our guests, but generally people were already committed so it was only Anne U who could come.

It started misty and then turned to fog so we stopped after 9 holes.

Prizes were awarded on the basis of the 9 hole scores.

In first place was Captain Claire with 19 points!

Well played Claire.

In second and third were Ros and myself both with 17 points, and Anne was awarded a visitor prize.

September

 September

The weather has at last brought the sorely needed rain and the course has perked up no end as a result!

The first Saturday in September (5th) was the monthly medal and WRVS trophy.

There were just 9 players available and some good scores were returned.

Perfect weather

In third place with a nett 71 was Lyn; in second place with a nett 69 was Fiona and in first place with a nett 68 was Ros.

Well played Ros!

Botrea Bowl

Saturday 12th was the Botrea Bowl stableford competition. There were just 8 players in this competition (we have some folk away) but we went ahead despite the reduced numbers otherwise we will struggle ot get all the tophies done!

In third place on countback was Antoinette.

In second was Fiona also with 34 points and in first place ...was Ros with 35 points.

Well played again Ros.

PS...I was delighted to find that Claire dislikes countback as much as I do and because she wasn't in the winnings otherwise, presented Antoinette with a well  deserved bottle of wine ... great move Claire!

...and since then!

 August

I left you at the away match at Carlyon Bay ...so what has happened since the?

This will be a brief catch-up as I was away for some of it...

The course being so dry and difficult/impossible to play has meant some adjustments to the calendar were made including the delay of the Admiration Cup and Godolphin Goblet.

On the 15th August it was decided to do a qualifier on the Back 9 instead of playing the full course and ten ladies entered.

The winning score came from Frieda with a 21 stableford points; in second was Lyn with 20 and Hilary was third with 19. It was great to have Di out playing ...coming in fourth with 18 points! Well done all.

The following day was the Star Castle Open which Hils, Fi and Sam entered - well done guys. So hard playing in these conditions.

Abbotswood Trophy

The following weekend, the 22nd August was the Abbotswood Trophy.

There were 8 teams of four for this mixed competition sponsored by Steve and Sue Dicker. The two best scores (one from the ladies and one from the men) counted.

The glorious sunshine of the summer continued and there were some good scores considering the dry-course challenges.

The winning team were Hils, Frieda, John and Ryan with a score of 80 points

Worthy winners

In second place were Sam, Liz, John T and Norman  M with 78 and in third were Chris L and Sue S with Cyril and Robin with 75 points.

Well played everyone.

A special competition with Hils dedicating their win to Paul F.

Captains' Charity Day!

Claire and Ryan's Charity day dawned bright and breezy and showery! The course was full of teams and generally we played at a good pace. It was a 4BBB and it was lovely to have so many people playing!

When we started the sky was looking grim and threatening but the shower was only a shower and we did have some sunshine later.

The plan to have a BBQ on the terrace with the band Badikoot was adjusted and we had the presentation inside.

I didn't know the men winners but happy to say Lyn and Sue S were second with 43 points.

After the presentations there was an auction compered by Bunchy and altogether about £1500 was raised for the Gaiety Girls Charity.

It was a lovely day - huge thanks to Claire and Ryan ...and for the drinks on the way round! A very successful day, well done all.
