Meadery Masters

Meadery Masters

Sunday was another beautiful day for golf with blue sky and sunshine. There was a full house for the competition with a shotgun start at 9am.

Meadery Masters at work!

We had an unexpected experience on the fourth hole.
Lindsay found her drive between the wall and the mine shaft... no problem there - she decided to take a seven iron and played the ball.

She connected with the ball really well, just short of the green it went but did not fare so well with her club!

It struck the wire of the fence and her 7
 iron snapped in two!

The head section flew behind her where Frieda was standing and the remaining shaft was in her hand!

Everyone was safe but more than a little surprised!

This is the second snapping of a club just recently...as we were about to start our match at Truro the Truro lady pulled her driver out from her bag and it had also split in two!

From now in I think I shall be less cavalier with my clubs when I put them in car!

The other drastic happening was on the 12th, we were looking for a ball in the rough below the wall on the left, when Lindsay's trolley suddenly took off down the hill! Frieda gave chase, I was below it and aimed to head it off when it tipped over and threw its contents onto the grass! As we stood with mouths agape, Frieda's trolley decided to follow suit and headed even further left into the deep rough almost doing a somersault!

It took some time to sort everything out!!!

There were some fabulous scores today- the first eight Seniors all got handicap reductions as did the first 8 men and the first three women!

The winning man John Stock had 47 points; the winning Senior George Higgins had 44 and the winning woman had 43 points.

The longest drive was won by yours truly (sorry Frieda!) and the nearest the pin in two was won by Fiona!

Well played everyone and huge thanks to the Meadery Team for their generous support - including the very welcome refreshments on the way round!
It was an altogether lovely day!

Birthday Boy!

And finally.... it was someone's birthday too! So he had to endure a rendition of Happy Birthday from all of us!

Lady Captain's Fun Day

Red White and Blue!

What a glorious day!

Serious Players!

Twenty-four very serious ladies came to play in Di's Captain's Day.

We were blessed with perfect weather and the course is looking fabulous!

Di had a gift for us all - a key ring with our CDH number on (such a great idea!),  a Cape ball from Gary's era and a pencil!
Thanks Di!

Di had prepared the cards for us too because we were teeing off either red, blue or white tees and these were marked on the card.

Reprobates!

We played an individual Stableford competition going out in groups of three.

Four groups started on the first and four on the tenth.

On the 10th there was a straightest drive/nearest the line competition.

This was won by Lynne who was just 19 inches from the line! (And it was her first shot of the day! Brilliant)

Lovely Ladies!
Gorgeous girls!

The twelfth offered a different challenge - being played off the Blue tee and having a Nearest the Pin competition!

This was won by young Jeannie!
Not quite sure what Judy's up to!

The best front nine was won by Judy and the best back nine was won by Fi - well played both!

As we went through to eat Leanne served us with a kir royale - thanks Leanne and Andy - a lovely welcome!

The (mostly)well behaved table
The very good table! (really?)
The wicked table! (Definitely)
The naughty table!(for sure!)
It was super to have Anne, Val and Viv join us for the afternoon - so good to see you 😃 and to have Lyn back among us with bandaged hand - hopefully you'll be back playing soon.

Di had arranged the prize table including Pam's pretty flower arrangements.

How often do we get twos?

Rarely...
but today we were not content with one two or even two twos... but between us we managed three!
Lindsay and myself on the 13th and Antoinette on the 17th!
Well done!

The scores today were shockingly high! There would have been mayhem if this had been a qualifier!
In second place with 48 points was yours truly

but in first place and announced to a huge cheer, was Marion with 49 points!
Wonderful winner!
Super well done Marion!

Huge thanks to Di for all the work involved in today - it was a super day all round.
Many thanks to Leanne and Andy and the staff for looking after us and to Mark and his team for the course.

The distant shower stayed away!

PS

The Friendly against West Cornwall was a win to Cape!  Well played ladies! Cape won by 18 points - as Judy pointed out that's like a whole round!

Many thanks to all the ladies who played and especially to Frieda for doing all the planning and phonecalls!

Sydney Grose

Sydney Grose

There was a lovely turnout of 18 Cape Ladies to play in this stableford competition.
The rain of yesterday had made a huge difference to the course, with the fairways showing some green patches and the putting surfaces themselves much greener.

There were some fabulous scores to match the day causing the competition scratch to rise to 39!
In fourth place was Lyn with 39 points;in third place with 40points was Sue D.

Our first and second place players both scored 41 points!
Antoinette was just pipped to the winning post on count back!

The Sydney Grose Trophy was won by Jayne!
Well played indeed...
Sydney Grose winner

Well done everyone who played today, several of us felt quite weary by the end but conditions really were excellent. There were some handicap changes today so please check before you play next.

Well done also to Hils and Sue who went up to Weston-super-Mare to play in Coronation Foursomes. They flew Capes flag very well in very unpleasant conditions. Well done both.

Thursday morning Blues

18th July

There was a good turn out for this morning's golf - we were playing the blue tees on the front nine.

There were fabulous scores again as the course continues to run fast. Six players came in with 19 points yet none of them were in the prizes!

In third place with 21 points was Judy, just being beaten by Frieda who was second with 22 points.

👏FANFARE 💫

 Our winner scored 27 points!

Yes she did only play 9 holes the same as everyone else but Angie scored a magnificent 27 points!
Well played indeed!

Di is threatening to get the scissors out and adjust Angie's handicap!

Here's the link to John Ogden's youtube channel for those that haven't seen it elsewhere! Just click on the highlighted words.

Sue D and Hils are off to Weston super mare to play in the Coronation foursomes and we wish them well - fly Cape's flag high!

Tuesday evening golf

A trouncing!
Lyn arranged for the super sixteen who came to play, to play men v women!
We each played our own ball and scored stableford points.
Sheltering behind the 8th wall as the men tee off 7
I was going to say it was a close run thing... But it wasn't!
The ladies won by an enormous margin!!! Go Ladies!!!
Some of us stayed on for a very tasty curry!
Well done ladies... I must mention Angie... who was a star scorer... she parred the second hole, a four for five points!!!
Well done all!

Men's Captain's Charity Day

Sunday 14th July

Men's Captain's Charity day was blessed with glorious weather although the breeze was stronger than yesterday.
The course is looking lovely but so dry in places, we could do with some gentle night-time rain!

Over 60 players entered the competition - it was lovely to have Cape buzzing again!

Roses on the 16th!

It was a shotgun start with the added treat of refreshments by the 1st tee... they certainly made some of us merry!

Andy and Leanne had arranged for a hog roast for everyone and it was delicious.
There was a super choice of salads and also a vegetarian option available.

It certainly seemed to be appreciated by everyone.

Leanne was sporting the new logo on her tee-shirt, these will be available for purchase soon.

You will perhaps have seen the new signage in various places in St Just directing people to the club.

There were 5 pairs of ladies who entered today and the winning team posted a score of 43 points.
The format was a betterball stableford off 90% handicap so it was a super score!
Well played Jayne and Lyn
Bill had invited the Pendeen Silver Band to play in the afternoon and a number of folk stayed to listen despite the call of World Cup Cricket and Wimbledon!

Many thanks to Bill for arranging the day and to Leanne and Andy for their active support.

On the shared noticeboard (and on the board in reception) is a letter from Leanne and Andy thanking everyone for the welcome they have received and explaining the bank details for golf payment and also gym  membership and a heads up of special events with Michelin Star chef Peter Gorton.

I am definitely not alone in delighting in the buzz that was at Cape yesterday - may it go from strength to strength.

Powerplay Trophy

Powerplay

Today was Hils and Norman's Powerplay Trophy!

This is when two flags can be found on the greens of the nine hardest holes.
Before a player tees off on those holes they can choose to play to the more difficult hole position or not.
Three of of these powerplays can be taken in the whole round.
Two flags on the third hole
This format challenges our thought processes and we find ourselves making some good and some very annoying decisions.

For example... a hole which you never normally par... you do actually par! You could have chosen to play to the powerplay flag but you didn't ...
or vice versa!
Aaahhh!

So, it was a great challenge and lots of fun!

The most outstanding hole score was made by Adventurous Angie, who parred the 16th hole and got 10, yes ten points for it!!!

The 16th was a good place to gain points it seems as Captivating Claire, Marvellous Marion, Super Sue S and Joyful Jayne all got 6 points there!

Amazing Ann doubled her points on the 15th; and Legendary Lyn doubled hers on the 8th while Fantastic Fran doubled hers on the 7th. Lovely Lindsay got two powerplays - on the 7th and the 14th - good stuff eh?

Well done everyone!

Welcome treats before the 12th!

As we come through to the 12th we were welcomed with delicious refreshments!
Thanks Hils - really delicious!

To the results - it was a close run thing!

In fourth place on countback from Jayne was yours truly with 38 points; in third place with 39 points was Judy on countback from Sue D who came second, and in first place was Chris with a fabulous forty points!

Add caption
Well played Chris - it is great to have you back and playing with freedom 😊
Many, many thanks to Hils and Norman for arranging and sponsoring the day and to Mark and his team for all the preparations. There was a lovely turnout, the weather was kind and the course was looking lovely. Leanne and Andy had arranged for quiche, salad and new potatoes to be available for the hungry golfers and it was delicious. Thanks everyone for making it a lovely day.

Winning ways

Winning Ways

Well done Angie, Claire, Frieda and Liz for flying Cape's flag high and winning at Porthpean Charity Day! Well done!

Back Nine Blues

The Back Nine Blues

It sounds like a sad song but in fact the thirteen lovely ladies that played today certainly weren't singing the Blues.

Several ladies turned up in the pink...
Team colours!
...the conditions were absolutely fabulous!
Blue sky, blue sea and we played off the blue tees to see how the suggested stroke index would work. Any comments/suggestions please to Di.

Teeing off from a different place, or being in a different place for your second shot, certainly made us thinks.
There were some fabulous scores in.
Our winner (on countback of course) was Sue S with 22 points; with a birdie on the 10th and a par on the 18th! Well played!

The beautiful 14th

In second place, also with 22 points, was Pam who parred the 10th, 14th and 16th holes!
Well played.

Deciding who was third almost needed a degree in Maths! Five ladies came in with 21 points!
It was so close between Ann and Lyn that the countback had to go down to the final hole where Lyn had a par for four points and Ann had a 6 for 3!  So close!

Well played all!

Saturday is Hilary and Norman's Powerplay Trophy, this is when we find two flags/holes on some of the greens...

Looking forward to it!

As we left Andy and Leanne were putting up new signage to encourage passing visitors to pop in; this one is on the way up from Cape.

The offer of an all-day-breakfast roll with coffee for £4, £5 or £6 (according to the number of fillings you have) is certainly very welcome and (I must say) delicious!

Hopefully Sunday will bring more delights as it is the Men's Captain's Day; the Pendeen Silver Band will be playing and a hog roast will be available for £8.50 for adults and £4.50 for children from 12.30 pm onwards.

And finally... two year's ago today I arrived in Lille to join Phil on his charity bike ride!
What an adventure that was!
Many thanks again for the wonderful support you gave him in all its forms!

League v St Enodoc

League v St Enodoc
Monday morning saw the Cape Ladies team take on St Enodoc at home.
The course was looking fabulous and conditions were just about perfect.
Cape were winners 5.5 to 1.5!
Well played everyone - it's likely that we will be top of the league for the moment!
Today's team was Fi, Hils,Jane, Lyn, Ros, Ruth and Sue D
Well done team!
We enjoyed a lovely meal afterwards, thanks to the kitchen staff and to Mark and his team for the condition of the course.

Polglase 2 Stableford

Polglase 2

Today it was the playing of the much delayed Polglase 2 Stableford competition - the last of the Polglase competitions - delayed because of awful weather on more than one occasion!

Today we had absolutely perfect conditions. Blue sky, warm sunshine and a sweet gentle breeze.

What a delight it was to be playing today - John Payne was at the club at 6am to cut the greens ready for the Men's Club Championship - and we reaped the benefit of the course in great condition.

The ball was travelling a long way on the dry fairways and greens and there were good scores out there - combined with blobs!

In fact the scores were so good that the CSS went up to 39!

Huge well done to Jayne for winning today with a nett 39 (and this included a couple of blobs!); Hilary was in second place on countback - also with 39 points and two blobs but with a fabulous 6 pars and 3 birdies!
In third place also with 39 points (and also 2 blobs) was Sue D with a fantastic 9 pars and a birdie!
Super scoring ladies  - for the full results see below.

Polglase Trophy
These results were added to the previous rounds of the Polglase Competition - the three best scores for each player being added together.

The worthy winner was Sue D who had a grand total of 26 points just pipping yours truly who had 25 points!
A very close contest.
In third place was Hils with 21 points and fourth Lyn with 19.

Polglase Trophy winner

PS
It was lovely to see little flags on the putting green...
Late evening light on the putting green

...and even better to have new flags, flagsticks and cups on each green.

What a difference they have made - thank you Andy and Leanne.
