Bosullow Bowl

Bosullow Bowl

There was a lovely turnout for the Bosullow Bowl Competition. Sixteen pairs entered and the weather, despite giving a fresh shower just before we started, turned out fine with the added bonus of the wind slowly easing!

It was a shotgun start so we were well spread out over the course!

There were some fabulous scores with Claire and Ray (previous winners) scoring 40 points - just pipped to the prizes by Sue D and Roy who had 7 pars and a birdie for 41 points!

4th Place Winners

In third place  with 5 pars and 3 birdies were Fi and Will with 42 points!
3rd Place winners
In second with 6 pars and a birdie were our Captain-to-be Sarah and Mike with a lovely score of 44 points
2nd Place Winners
The winning team were in a class of their own!

Lyn commented that it was a joy to watch as George and Pam had 7 pars and 2 birdies amassing a score of 50 points!
Bosullow Bowl Winners
Huge well done to Pam and George! What a score - fabulous play!

It was lovely to have Annie come and award the trophy which she and Tony had given for this Mixed Greensome competition.

It is always good fun and is a lovely format - thanks Annie - and congratulations again to Pam and George!

ps...   We also wanted to say thank you to Hils for organising our League matches and team this year - enjoy - you deserve it :-)
A little thank you!

Mexican Night and Rugby/Golf World Cup

Mexican Night

Mexican Night on Friday night was huge fun with delicious food - super stuff from chef Jody.

Rugby/Golf World Cup

The first match of this fun 9 hole competition took place on Friday with South Africa beating New Zealand - who'd have guessed!

keep an eye on the board as the matches are played and the results written up!

Pairs Knockout Final

Ladies Pairs Knockout Final

Friday dawned mainly sunny but very windy again and it was time for the Pairs Knockout Final!

Claire and Fi v Bev and Liz

Conditions were challenging with that blustery wind especially out on the exposed greens, but the ball was not moving on the green so the match went ahead.

Nine shots were given by Fi and Claire and after a slightly nervous start by both teams, all four players then went on to play some lovely golf.

Fi and Claire took an early lead which Bev and Liz battled to peg back with some particularly impressive putting.
Liz and Bev claimed their win on the 15th hole.

Knockout winners!
Well played both teams - the match was played in great spirit - and congratulations to the winners!

Looe Visit

Looe Ladies

Wednesday and Thursday (25th and 26th September) saw 9 ladies from Looe come and stay at Cape.

The weather was not the kindest with strong wind, drizzle, mist and the occasional drift of fog!
However four Cape Ladies joined them on the Wednesday, playing alongside the looe Ladies in teams of three.

Well played Fi and Bev who scored very well and whose scores counted towards our friendly match on the Thursday. Sue D and I were the other two players.
I know other Cape Ladies had hoped to play but were unable to make it in the end.

Well played Fi and her group for winning the Wednesday group competition!

The Looe ladies had a lot of fun and really appreciated the way that Ashley and Tanya looked after them.

On the Thursday there were 7 Cape ladies able to play - we played an individual Stableford - adding all our scores together (plus two randomly chosen from yesterday in our case)

Penny had organised prizes!

Unbeknown to me Penny who organises the trip had brought prizes and a trophy!
The Best individual score was by Fran who scored 39 points!

Second best score from the Cape team was Angie with 36 points!

Well played ladies!
With these fabulous scores Cape ended up winning by 39 points!

Thanks to all who played over these two days - the Looe Ladies also know how to party!

They may well be back next year and have also suggested that maybe we could take a group up to Looe... and we can take the trophy with us!

League Success!

League Story 2019

Our final League match took place on Friday at Mullion. The result was a win to Mullion 5 games to two.

The team was  Hils, Sue D, Fiona, Bev, Jane, Ros and myself.

League Division 2 Final Positions 2019

Newquay         16 points
Cape Cornwall 13 points
Mullion            11 points
St Enodoc        10 points
West Cornwall   9 points
Truro                 5 points

This means that Newquay and Cape go up into Division 1; and West Cornwall and Truro go down to Division 3

It looks as though next year Division One will be us and Newquay, Perranporth, Bude, Falmouth and the final place will be either Launceston (most likely) or St Mellion.

It's a super achievement to have won promotion each year to rise from Div 4 to Div 1 - well done everyone who has played in the matches over the last three years.

Carmen Payne

Carmen Payne

Eighteen lovely ladies competed in today's trophy. The weather was good, for the early starters it was fine for the whole round, for the later starters it came in a bit damp and dark - it felt as though you wanted to switch on the lights!

Our winner got a two on the 5th hole and came in with a score of 40 points!
Well played Jayne! Super stuff!

In second was Jane (37 points) with a very steady round scoring on every hole; in third was Hilary (35) who had 6 pars and a birdie but unfortunately had struggled on the first two holes.
Lyn was in fourth with 34 points.

Countback was needed to separate 5th and 6th and there were then four people with the same score!
Typical Cape with many scores close together!

Thursday Back 9

'Sandy' Thursday

Andy had warned us that the greens had been sanded and they had but the weather was glorious and there were some good scores in.

There were 9 ladies playing including Liz F our country member.

It was good to see her - it must be noted that before teeing off on the 14th she longingly said "I used to enjoy this hole when it was on the forward tee..."

And what do we see marked on her card for that hole? A birdie 3 for 5 points!! Well played LIz!

Liz scored on eery hole and ended up in second place with 19 points being beaten by Pam who had 20 points (including two blobs!)

Well played everyone.

Di and I were also out on the course by the 14th and 15th holes - putting red stakes in to mark the penalty area /orchard.

When we are using the new cards the red penalty area means that you have the option to play a ball from the drop zone on the 14th (the forward blue tee area) if you wish.

On the 15th the orchard itself is now a penalty area which means that you can now choose from the options of going back on a line; stroke and distance or two club lengths.
(Up till now it was out of bounds so the only choice you had was to replay your shot from where you first played it)

Several of our ladies played at Porthpean yesterday - Di, Jane L and Lis Jenkin were second...   I and my two playing partners from Tehidy were second from last!!!
