Bosullow Bowl

Bosullow Bowl

Forty Fabulous folk entered Anne's Bosullow Bowl Trophy competition. It is a mixed Greensome off half handicap and it was lovely to see such a good entry.

We were blessed with a dry start to the round... (it was a shotgun start with players spread throughout the course) but the forecast rain did arrive and when it came it soaked us. It was also very windy so the final 5 or 6 holes were tough for everyone.

A special well done to Chris L for completing the round with an ankle sprained at the start. Well done for soldiering on - hope it isn't serious.

Many thanks to Di and Ros (who came up specially) for doing the cards.

In fifth place on countback with 41 points were Chris and Cyril! Well deserved after the twisted ankle - fantastic!
Also with 41 points were Hilary and Mark P in fourth place.

Countback was also needed to split second and third - both having 42 points!
In third were Bronwen and John F and in second place were Fran and Brian... beware the injured golfer I say!

In first place with a great 43 points were Sue and Steve D!
Well played indeed!

Well done to everyone for completing the course today - scores in the 40s were impressive indeed!

Hopefully everyone is now tucked up inside and dry!

Thursday Back 9

Thursday Back 9

Thirteen lovely ladies came to play the Back 9 today... and to count their drives on the fairway!

The weather was pretty good with bright southerly breeze.

I don't know about anyone else but I couldn't putt for toffee! Four putts on the first; at least 4 putts on the second... I'm sure I would have won a most putts prize!

There was a heavy dew but it really was a glorious morning.

There are clearly some very steady drivers among us... two ladies had 7 drives each on the fairway... Liz and Fi!  Well played both!

Third place was claimed by Fi with 16 points, but we had to use Countback to  decide the winner... with Di pipping Antoinette to first place!

Well done all!

A head's up...

Here is Val modelling the super-duper penguin hat... a reminder that it is Lady Caps Charity Day on Saturday 21st October and I am hoping everyone will be sporting a penguin hat... all proceeds go to the CCAA!

Anyone without may be fined or receive a forfeit! (You have time to get knitting!)

Thanks everyone for your support with this and with Phil's ride... he will be finishing two weeks today... I cannot believe it is almost done!

Pavenham Park Visit

Pavenham Park

My guests from Pavenham Park in Bedfordshire arrived on Monday - earlier than expected which worked out well because the weather was glorious!

Linda and Anne played the front nine and the rest of the group arrived in time to join them for the back nine (and one couple then went on to complete the front nine too).

Bronwen came to join us for the back 9 which was great as it meant I could do a pasty run and bring sustenance to the golfers!

On Tuesday we played a Cape v Pavenham Park trophy competition!

The Trophy... the Wise Old Owl of Cape...

...only tiny but of great significance (like The Ashes!).

Six pairs played a Betterball Stableford - adding all the scores together for the final result.

Cape v Pavenham Park

First off for Cape were Jenny and Brian with Heather and Jill  (Jill joined us at China Fleet for the meal).

Then came Fran and Liz with Linda and Dave.
Finally Chris J and Bronwen played alongside Anne and Peter.

We had nearest the pin in two on the 12th and prizes for the best Pavenham Park pair and best Cape pair.

The scores were close!

Pavenham Park 116
Cape 117!

Well played Cape!
Pavenham have won the Bedfordshire Handicap league 5 years in a row so they're keen contestants!

Anne and Peter won the best Pavenham Pair Prize.
Jenny and Brian won the best Cape Pair.

Linda won the Nearest the pin in two on 12th!

There was a lot of stopping to admire the views!

It was a lot of fun - thank you everyone for playing - and extra thanks to Brian for doing the pasty run as well as playing in my place for the first 11 holes.

The course was looking fabulous - thanks Mark and the team!

And of course - huge thanks to Pavenham for making it so far West!

Well done everyone!

ps  We called off Wednesday's round because of the weather!

Treverven Trophy

Treverven Trophy

Last Year's Treverven Trophy marked the departure of Lady Captain Sonia for the sunny climes of Nottinghamshire and the beginning of my Captain's Year!

Can it really be a year?

Beautiful sunshine welcomed us today but their was a sting in the tale with a fierce wind!
The course was looking amazing - thanks again to Mark and his team.

One of his team was playing alongside Val and I ... and clearly being a greenkeeper gives you special powers...
...playing across the bridge!

The format was a California Scramble and we played in teams of three to make the numbers work.

In third place with a score of 73 were John Pring, Chris J and Sue S.

In second place with a score of 72.875 were Martin Uren, Fi and Annie.

And our winners with a great score of 69.125 were John Tweedie, Fran and Frieda - well played team!

Well played everyone and thank you to Fran and Di for doing the results and the presentation.

Pavenham visitors are coming on Monday (my old club in Bedfordshire) and playing on Tuesday and Wednesday - I had hoped to arrange some matchplay between Cape and Pavenham but the numbers may not work... however they will enjoy playing our course whatever the format!

Thanks again everyone!

Open Day

 Open Day

 How blessed are we?
What a glorious day for our Open Day... a bit breezy but blue skies and sunshine...

In retrospect I think the format was a bit tough and something a little more forgiving might be better next time!

However 36 Ladies came and played today, with visitors from Looe, Mullion, West Cornwall and Truro.
Mark and his team had the course looking absolutely fabulous - many thanks as always, but special thanks for the extra help getting the Nearest the Pins etc set up.

Thanks too to Cyril who was a super starter and to Brian and Ray for spotting, firstly on the fourth and then on the 12th..

Caption please!

Pam did three absolutely glorious flower arrangements... thank you Pam they were beautiful!

It was also lovely to see Judy - thanks for signing everyone in!
Thank you everyone for taking part today, for providing a fabulous raffle table and for all your encouragement.

Our Best Visitors were from West Cornwall, with Anne Uren, Mandy Denison and Chris J. with a score of 67.

The Best Front 9 team was Lindsay, Liz and Di with 32 points; the Best Back 9 were Anne J, Jenny and Sonia (how lovely to welcome Sonia back for the day).

Bev, Fi and Pam were in third place with a score of 69; Sue D, Jane and Fran were second with 73 and our Overall Winners were Sue S, Lyn and Chris L!
They had a fabulous score of 75 - a great achievement off 90%!
Well played!

For the Spot prizes we had Sandy King from Looe winning the Longest Drive on the 2nd; Lis Jenkin from West Cornwall won the Straightes Drive and Liz Nicholls was nearest the pin in two on the 17th for the Bronze Division.

Our Winners! Well played!

Thanks everyone!

Final Match

Match v St Austell

I am delighted to say that our Cape Ladies won the final match away at St Austell which means we should be top of the Division!

Well played everyone who has taken part in any of the matches... we have been a very effective team this year!

Next year we should be moving into division 3, we aren't certain who the other teams will be but Polzeath and Porthpean should be two of the them.

There is due to be a Division Winners Play Off final on Sunday October 15th at Merlin.
The winner of each division is invited to play; there will be semi finals in the morning with the winners playing a final in the afternoon.

We will await confirmation from the County but I am thrilled with how we've done - BRILLIANT - thank you all for your support!

Well done Cape Ladies!

Match

Match v Polzeath

Well done Cape Ladies!

Cape won their penultimate League match, playing Polzeath at Home. This is the match that we had to abandon because of the fog... today was absolutely glorious to make up for it.

Our team were Sue, Claire, Lyn, Jane, Lindsay, Ros, and Di and we ran out winners 5 points to two!

Many thanks to Mark and the team - the course is looking fabulous, and particularly to John for preparing the green for us.

Well played ladies - a great result... our final match is tomorrow!

Catch up again!

Catch up!

Last Saturday was supposed to be a medal but with gales forecast we decided to call it off.

In fact the wind was gale force but the rain didn't come so it wasn't as awful as we envisaged but I think most folk were glad of the decision.

During the week it was the Bronze Autumn meeting at Merlin and I am thrilled to say that Fran was third (on countback; 2nd to 5th all had 35 points!) and in 6th place was Liz with 33.
Fantastic result ladies!
Well done.

On Thursday we played the Back 9 and it was bright and breezy! With a shower!

Our winner was Chris J and our runner up was Sarah.
It was lovely to be out - despite the shower.

Sue insisted on taking the pic below... just so you know that I play golf too!
You'll notice there is no tee, ball or glove... it was all posed!

Finally... an update about this young man...

they have reached Italy and all is going well.
They are over two-thirds of the way through now and Phil has so far raised about £17,000!
He is absolutely thrilled.

Saturday is the Carmen Payne Stableford and Sunday our rescheduled match against Polzeath followed on Monday by our final League match, away at St Austell!
Good luck!

Congratulations Cape ladies!

Our wonderful team won our home match against St Austell 4.5 to 2.5!

That moves us into second place in the league - a super achievement.

We have two matches left, the return match against St Austell (which we are due to play on Monday) and the rescheduled match against Polzeath.

The weather today was windy but also sunny.

Many thanks to Brian and Ray who were fabulous spotters for us on 4 and 12!

Thanks also to Mark and his team for the condition of the course today - several of our visiting ladies commented on how good it was looking.
Thanks also to Ben and the staff for a lovely meal.

Our players today were Di, Ros, Lindsay (a late replacement - thanks as always!),Fran, Bev, Fi and myself.

Thanks everyone, and well done Team Cape!

The Bob Lynne Trophy

The Bob Lynne Trophy

What a lovely day we were blessed with for today's Trophy!
Pam getting ready to tee off

It was dry and generally sunny although there was a bit of a nip in the wind... well... it is September!
Playing on to the 12th

Eighteen lovely ladies came to play today - a great turn out when so many are away.

Sue and Lindsay doing a Ben Hur Challenge!

The format was a betterball and there was some really good scoring.

The course was looking great - many thanks again to John who was busy cutting the greens early on and all the team. The course is looking fabulous.

Cape had a Big Wedding on so after we'd played we went to Bronwen's for refreshments and the prizes.

Many thanks to Bronwen for hosting us at such short notice and Lynne for arranging a wonderful spread for us and lovely prizes.

In third place with 41 points were Sue S and Liz!

Just in front of them with 42 points were Sarah and Val!

And ...

the winners of the Bob Lynne Trophy were Fi and Pam with 43 points!

Well played ladies!
Trophy Winners Fi and Pam
It was a really lovely day - time spent in good company while playing golf at Cape... it can't get much better than that.

It was lovely to have Rosemary pop in and to have Jean playing her first 18 holes for a while and of course to have Anne with us.

Thanks to everyone for their part in making today go so well; particularly Lynne and Bronwen for their generous prizes and hosting; also Di for her behind the scenes work in preparation and the scoring; and of course to Mark and his team for the continued work on the course.
