Catch up!

Catch up!

Spain, England Golf Trust and today

Apologies for the lack of blog for a week or so! Catching up now!

Firstly today's Stableford - conditions were great as the early morning fog lifted to give us a warm bright day with very little wind.

The course has improved no end over the last few weeks and it was looking absolutely beautiful.

There was some very good play too... this was Pam's long drive on the 11th - super play!

In the B group the winner was Angie with a lovely 18 points; this included three three pointers and two four pointers!

In the A group it was a close run thing. Lindsay was our winner with 18 points but she was followed by 4 ladies on 17! Pam, Liz, Judy and Jenny all had 17, with Jenny pipping Judy to second place.
There were then three more of us with 16 points!
What a close run thing!

Antoinette birdied the 11th hole and parred the 18th! I'd be delighted to start and finish like that!

Well done all.
We were delighted to hear from Di after we'd finished that her op was over and she was back in her room.

England Golf Trust

Saturday last was the England Golf Trust competition - this is a Stableford competition with the best Silver and Best bronze scores going through to represent the club.
The results are below, with Sue D and Chris James eligible to progress if their combined score is good enough to get through - watch this space!

And last but not least The Spanish Trip

I believe all such trips are underwritten by an unspoken rule... what happens away, stays away... so all I can report is that the trip was a great success and here are some pics to prove they went!!

The course looks amazing!

Looks amazing ladies!

League match v Truro

League match v Truro

With lovely sunshine and a gentle breeze Cape ladies welcomed the League team from Truro.

Conditions couldn't have been better for the match and the course was looking lovely.

The result of the match was 4.5 to 2.5  to Cape - well played all.

Many thanks as always to Hils for organising and leading the team.

The match was played in good spirit and the food afterwards was very welcome.

Thanks to all involved - our next match is not until June 24th - against Mullion at home!

Coronation Foursomes

Coronation Foursomes

There were 6 pairs of ladies entered in the competition - the low turnout a result of the call of the wild (walking) and the call of Spain (golfing allegedly). Two groups of ladies were away so our numbers were down.

The bluebells are having a spectacular year... cue lots of bluebell pictures!
They even withstand the mower to brighten up on the fourth - simply beautiful.

Conditions for playing today were good - there was very little wind and the cloudy cool start turned into a sunny finish. Jumpers and jackets were on and off...but altogether no complaints!

In second place with 32 points were Captain Di and Jane L, and in first place were Hilary and Sue D with 34 points. This means they can go on to represent us at the regional final at Weston super mare - good luck!

Well done all!

And good luck to Di for Thursday.

Polglase 3 Par

Polglase 3 Par

Seventeen ladies were able to compete in the competition today and the weather was glorious.

We are so fortunate to play golf in this amazing place!

The bluebells are beautiful too...

The Par competition format is an unforgiving one - playing matchplay against the course - but everyone gave it a good shot!

In fourth place (on countback from Hilary) was Lyn with a score of 2 down.

In third place on countback from myself was Lindsay - we were both one up; and in first place, winning two up was Liz!

Liz received a handicap cut so is now playing off 33. Well played!

I said it's an unforgiving format because it feels like that - if you've lost a couple of holes you feel as though you're not playing well, but that's not necessarily true - for example - the first 7 players today all played within their buffer zone and that's unusual for us at Cape!

There is one more player who should have an individual mention - Frieda - who birdied the 7th hole! A great score on that hole! Deserving of the pink head-cover...I can't imagine why she was not keen to accept it!

For the full results click here.

Di mentioned a couple of diary changes for us - notably the Land's End Open has moved from the 9th of June to Sunday 23rd June. Di was also collecting names of folk happy to play in the Bronze Shield at St Austell on the 20th June.

The 14th - a change to the OB
Please also note that after discussion in the men's meeting the orchard to the right of the bridge on the 14th will no longer be out of bounds but a drop can be taken in the Drop Zone (where the blue tee is) for a one stroke penalty. This makes eminent sense to me, so it is the same both sides of the bridge.
If however you ball flies beyond that orchard area and/or down on to the 13th then it is still out of bounds. Mark will be sorting out the marking when he can.

The course was looking great today - the only frustration for everyone is the condition of the greens - it is a real battle against the leather-jackets. I know we're grateful for all the hard work that Mark and his team do.

Bronze Thursday!

Bronze Spring Meeting

Thursday 9th May saw 4 ladies playing for fun at Cape and twelve intrepid players venturing to Tehidy to compete in the County Bronze Spring Meeting!

What a great entry and three of our ladies came away with prizes - and just because it was Cape - countback had to be involved of course!

Sue S was 9th with 31 points - just pipping Di on Countback!

In 4th place was last year's winner Jane, with 34 points and she was pipped by Pam who also had 34 points but came in third!

Well played everyone - 'a great day all round' says our Captain.

(I've tried to find the full results but they are not on line yet)

Eype's!

South-west Regional Medal final

Many thanks to everyone for the encouraging messages for the Bridport competition.

The course is a cliff top one, very open with some criss-crossing fairways, all in lovely condition  and the views were magnificent!

3rd tee with amazing views
The wind was strong for our practice round and a bit chilly but all in all we were very lucky.

Judy and I made notes to help with the competition itself and it was really useful to do so.

The amazing 6th!

The 6th hole is their signature hole, and it is incredible! It is 122 yds 'long' with a huge drop down to the green!

We had met a local lady the first afternoon who had offered us some advice - first that the greens were true (which they were) and secondly, to play the 6th according to its length... she talked about the club she used too. So during the practice round we had the chance to test it out!

On competition day we played alongside Sally (from Mullion) and Jane Watts from Trevose - Jane I remembered from our League matches and Sally and her caddie Liz we knew from our many forays to Mullion - they were very good company.

The wind was less strong but it felt chillier however the notes we'd made came in very handy!

The competition round started well; I played to my handicap till the 10th hole when the wheels fell off for two holes!  Two 8's rather scuppered the card and I posted a nett 81 (three more than the practice round).

When everyone was finished (84 played) the CSS for the day went up to 75! One player came in with a nett 71 and she was way ahead of everyone. The next best score was a 74. There were lots of similar scores and then there were 7 of us with a nett 81...  with countback I was in 23rd position.

I must admit to being a bit disappointed at the end of the round because I had messed up a couple of holes that I had parred on the practice round; but on reflection I was content that we'd given it our best shot.

Judy and I stayed in a lovely place called Epye's Mouth Hotel and we can recommend it - I'm sure we have a few extra inches round the waist now!

Many thanks to Judy for addying and for keeping me on the straight and narrow!

Saturday 4th May

The answer my friends.......

Bob Dylan must have been to Cape and arranged the conditions for Saturdays of late. Anyway 16 of us set out to complete for the monthly medal along with the W.R.V.S Trophy. The customary strong winds faced us on some parts of the course whilst the sunshine and shelter made other holes more manageable and allowed some layers of clothing to be discarded..

Scores ranged over 19 points with three countbacks needed to separate scores. Sue D was fourth with nett 78, Frieda third with 77 while Di pipped Fiona on countback with both scoring 75.

Congratulations to Ruth on her efforts at the South West Regional medal event in Bridport. I expect she will relay more of this later.

A busy week faces us with a friendly against Falmouth on Wednesday, the County bronze meeting at Tehidy, where 12 of us will participate and then a coaching session with Jonathan, also at Tehidy for some on Friday. Good luck and the hope of good weather to all concerned.
