Friendlies and Aggregates

 Friendlies and Aggregates

Friday hosted a Friendly match between Cape and Mullion at Home.

There was a really strong wind blowing with Cape out winners 3 1/2 to 1 1/2

Well played team - especially in that wind!

On Saturday there was a 3 ball aggregate competition. This was a Stableford off full course handicap and there were some fabulous scores. It was great that several ladies played using the blue tees and found their round challenging but the back 9 far more enjoyable with a chance to score.

The winning team were Judy, Sue S and Chris L with 115 points.

In second were Sarah Jean and Sam with 108 and in third were Frieda, Lindsay and Lyn with 104. Jayne, Antoinette and Fi were close behind with 102.

Well played everyone - particularly Lyn Jean Sue S and Sam who all had scores in the 40s (Lyn had 44 and Jean 43!) Fabulous scoring.

Well played everyone.

Many thanks to Di for doing the very complex scoring.

Please everyone - remember to fill in your card correctly. We MUST include our correct course handicap and check scores at the end.

Sydney Grose and New Captain's Trophy

A weekend of Golf!

Both Saturday and Sunday were glorious - hot and sunny !

In fact it was so hot it was tough going, especially on the Saturday when there was hardly a breath of wind.

However, seventeen lovely ladies played the for the Sydney Grose Star Trophy on Saturday.

Despite the intense heat there were some great scores.

In third, fourth and fifth were Chris L, Frieda and Fran who all had 37 points - only separated on countback!

In second was Liz with 38 points and I managed first with 42 points.

For me it was one of those days when luck is with you - on the 15th my second shot was heading into the far side of orchard but somehow squeezed between the wall and the wooden bridge post and bounced onto the fairway on the other side!

I was only too happy to take advantage!

It was a completely different story on Sunday when I hardly made the scorecard!

Sunday was the New Captain's Trophy which had been twice delayed but was a fabulous success.

Once again the weather was hot but there was a good breeze which made it much more comfortable.

We played a Betterball Stableford with the men playing off the White Tees and the women off the red; there were 33 teams playing - our first shotgun start for so long!

Well played all the ladies who competed!

Fran and Lyn were in 5th place with 44 points (this included 8 pars between them).

In fourth were Ryan Eddy and Will H; and in third were Keith Holly and Geoff Davies, all having 44 points.

In second place with 45 points were Jayne and Fi (8 pars and a birdie!) and in first place with 46 points were Gareth May and Gary Thomas.

I'm pleased to report also that Frieda won the longest drive on the 6th!

It was great to see the success of the ladies in the competition - once again the handicap system seemed to work very well.

Well done everyone who played over the weekend - especially those that played on both days! And well done prize-winners.

Front Nine Blues!

Front 9 Team Competition off the Blue Tees

The blue sky and sunshine apparently present in Penzance over the last couple of days didn't quite reach us at Cape, but it was lovely out there.

We played a team competition off the blue tees, playing in threes with two scores to count. We found ourselves in places we weren't usually in and the blue tees didn't stop us from losing balls either!

The sea mist lurked but didn't draw in

It is certainly a challenge playing off the blues but our winners were Pam, Jenny and myself with 47 points.

In second were Jane (welcome back!) Liz and Bronwen with 41!

Mixed tee competition

Red or Blue Tee Competition

Sarah had invited us to play a mixed tee competition today. We could play off the Red or Blue tees and had to mark whichever one we were using on the card.

We then needed to work out Course Handicap and Strokes received and off we set.

It turned out that I was the only one playing off the Blue Tees but we are pleased to report that the system works (entering scores and handicap adjustments etc).

You can't see it ...but ask Frieda about the 'floating' boat!

There were eleven ladies who were able to play - we still have a lot away, or injured or unable to be here - it'll be good when we have everyone playing again.

The overcast and drizzly forecast came to nothing and we had warm sunshine and almost no breeze till we got towards the end of the round.

The course is looking fabulous.

Sarah and Frieda on the 10th tee.

Playing the blue tees shortens the holes  (some by more than others) but also it changes the par on 9 of the holes which makes it a real challenge. There is an adjustment made to handicap to offset this when we enter the scores on the system.
As we began the back 9 a mist started to drift in, but it came to nothing.

Frieda ready for her drive on the 12th...

...what a shot!

The sea mist lasted minutes and was gone!
Captain!

We really were fortunate with the weather.

In first place with a fabulous 39 points was Antoinette! Great score.

I was second with adjustments made for playing from the Blue tees and Fi and Bron had to be separated on countback to decide third place.

Tomorrow's New Captain's Trophy has been postponed again - till next Sunday!
Let's hope it will be third time lucky.
Thanks Di for setting up today's comp and doing the cards at home.

At Last!!!

Back 9!

At Last!!!!

The weather actually allowed us to play the fun back nine competition which Frieda has had planned since we were allowed back on the course! We played from either the blue or red tees a stableford in teams of three with two scores to count.

There are many folk away or with other commitments at the moment so there were a special six of us who played.

Frieda told us over coffee at the end that one team took first place and another was runner up! And we happily left it at that.

Sorrow

We were all subdued and still shocked at the news of the sudden and               untimely death of Mike Dann, a kind and gentle man who was playing golf                         with us on Saturday. So difficult to get our heads round it.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

Club Championship Round 2

Club Championship Round 2

Well the forecast rain and thunder didn't come and like yesterday we were able to play in dry conditions. It was wet underfoot as the early players in the men's Championship found out, but for us it was dry. It was definitely more breezy than yesterday.

The course is looking fabulous and conditions were pretty good - even good for this little chap that Lyn discovered on the 18th!

Once again this competition was very close. It was lovely that we could sit outside for the presentations.

Our Club Champion by two shots was Hilary - with a score of 177.

Well played Hilary!

I was second with 179 and Sue D third with 182.
