Bosullow bowl

Bosullow Bowl

The Bosullow bowl was contested by 16 teams this year.

It was begun by dear Annie and Tony and this is the first time we've played it since Anne's death earlier this year.

We decided she would have been encouraging everyone out to play despite the drizzle and fog that was fairly persistent at the start. In fact it threatened to come in really thickly at one point but clearly Anne had some influence because it eventually cleared and the afternoon turned out to be lovely.

Waiting to tee off on 12
We had bright patches and then drizzle again,,,

...sheltering under the umbrella one minute... and a hole later the sun had come out!

There were some great scores - in 4th place were Lyn and Geoff with 44 points, just pipping Chris and Cyril on countback!

In third place with 45 points were Sue S and Robin; they were pipped to second place by Sarah and Roy who also had 45 points.

In first place with a fantastic 48 points were Sam and John!

It was a lovely day and a fitting tribute to Anne and Tony - it was great to have such a good turnout.

Thursday Back 9!

 Another Back Nine!!!

Shock horror we were able to play another Back 9 Fun competition! The weather was fabulous...and long may it continue!

It was hot and sunny with beautiful blue sky and sea and the barest of breezes. It really was lovely.

About 14 of us played; we were in groups of three and we had the fun and challenging prospect of playing from different tees.

The first three holes got us back in the swing and we used the red tees;

for 13, 14 and 15 we used the blue tees (nice!); and for the final three holes it was yellows! Yellows off 16 - not nice!

But what a lot of fun!

Unfortunately Jean had a problem with her buggy again and Andrew had to rescue her1

The sixteenth was certainly a challenge.

Several of us lost balls (there and elsewhere) but there were some good scores too and the winning team was sue D, Fran and Di with a combined score of 46 points!

Well played - and thanks for the fun Frieda!

Meadery Masters

Meadery Masters 2021

Eight ladies, eleven seniors and twenty-seven men entered the Meadery Masters competition and the field were distributed across the course for a shotgun start.

The weather had threatened to be a bit tricky but we didn't have any rain and only a tiny breeze so conditions were good.

We were delighted to be met by the Meadery Buggy after about 7 holes!

Whisky, wine, snickers and chocolate went down extremely well and the golf seemed to be better afterwards too!  Thank you Cyril and Robin!

In fact thanks to the whole Meadery Team for their generosity in sponsoring the competition!

Nearest the Pin in two was on the 10th hole and was won by Fi!

Nearest the pin in two

Longest drive was on the 8th - it's always tricky keeping it on the fairway but for once I managed it!

In fourth place was Sued D with 34 points (including a birdie on the 9th).

Countback was needed to decide between third and second of course!

Claire third with 36 points

                                 Claire's round included 9 pars...great play.

Hilary was second with the same 36 points and more great play with 8 pars and a birdie!

Hilary 2nd

And the winner of the Ladies section of the Meadery Masters was Lyn with 37 points! This included 3 pars, a birdie on the third after a spectacular Seve shot on to the green and not a blob in sight! The rest of us all blobbed at least one hole...(we had 18 blobs between the remaining 7 of us!!!)

Worthy winner on Meadery Masters

Congratulations and Well Played Lyn!

Thanks again to all the Meadery team for such a lovely day.

The winner of the Seniors section was Will H with 41 points.

The Men's section also had to use countback to ascertain the winner - Ryan Eddy winning with 42 points, beating Kim S and John F who also scored 42!

Many thanks also to Di for marking the cards which proved a little challenging at times!

County Bronze and Silver and Carmen Payne

Carmen Payne and Bronze and Silver County Competitions

Thursday morning's golf at Cape was cancelled because of fog, but the County competition at Mullion went ahead after an hour and a quarters delay.

The way the competition had been arranged was a little odd to say the least, with three balls going out first...followed by two-balls later along with a mix of Silver and Bronze players.

This lead to delay in getting the results done - much quicker had one complete division had gone out first so the result could be given while the second group of players were playing their competition.

Moan over - the meal was good and the sun even came out at one point but it was a bit of a challenging day.

The good news was from Claire and Jayne who both came in with 34 points with Jayne taking 6th place beating Claire on Countback. The winner of the Bronze group came in with 38 points.

In the Silver division the winning score was a Nett 71 - none of us got close I'm afraid!

It had been a long day.

A little bit of sunshine!

 Medal and WRVS Trophy

Saturday 3rd Septemeber (September already!!) was a medal and the WRVS Trophy.

Thirteen ladies completed the 18 hole competition in challenging weather. The wind was really difficult but there were two birdies (on 9 and 10) one for Fran and the other for Claire.

In third place with a Nett 75 was Lyn; in second was Claire with a Nett 72 (with 5 pars and that birdie); and in first place with a Nett 69 was Fran  (also with 5 pars and her birdie!)

Back 9!

Back 9 Thursday

Shock horror!  A Back 9 that wasn't cancelled due to the weather!!!

Eleven ladies began the back nine competition of three clubs and a putter but because of a problem with Jean's buggy only 8 finished and handed in cards.

Everyone seems to have played the red tees  despite the option to play either the blue or the red tees.

Angie and Jenny both birdied the 12th - for Jenny that was a three for four points, and for Angie it was a three for 5!!

It's amazing what you can do with just three clubs and a putter, I wonder what clubs were chosen?

In third place on countback was Angie with Sue D in second, with 15 points.

The winner had a lovely 17 points and that was Liz!

Well played!
