Drive-in and Betterball

 Drive-in and Betterball

We didn't play on Thursday because of the weather but Saturday 26th saw many of our ladies turn up for Frieda's Drive-in with rattles, whistles and air horns in hand!

We had sold 44 squares for a bit of fun and to raise some money for Frieda's charity but we hadn't thought of one thing!

What if Frieda hit her ball OB?

Getting ready for Frieda!

With a fierce southerly wind maybe we should have considered it... but Frieda made a fabulous connection with the ball and it flew straight over the 18th fairway over the wall on to the caravan roof!

Out of Bounds!

Sue S made the lovely suggestion of "out of bounds means we should give all the money  to charity..." everyone agreed so Frieda's charity, gained £44.

It was lots of fun - we made such a racket with whistles and air horns and rattles... !

Afterwards we played a betterball competition with 16 lovely ladies playing.

Our winners - appropriately - our new Captain Frieda with Sue D scoring 22 points.

In second were Sue S and Lyn with 21 points, and in third were Claire and Ros with 19 points (there were three pairs on 19 so countback was needed!)

Well played everyone - it was hard work in the wind and we were so glad when Frieda decided 11 holes were enough. The course is looking great - thanks as always to the green-keeping team and thanks Lindsay for doing the cards.

It was fabulous to see so many who came up to support Frieda's Drive-in and to play and stay for coffee afterwards.

Lets hope for better weather soon!

Saturday Fun!

 19th February

Storm Eugene/Eustace/Eunice or whatever it was  called put paid to golf on Saturday but Frieda had invited us round to hers for coffee and cake if we could make it!

We drove past damaged greenhouses and the like but it was so good to get together and we had such a good laugh!

Not to mention the delicious nature of the coffee and cakes!

We have missed this fun but it's there just under the surface!

Many thanks Frieda for hosting our silliness - the balloons added an extra dimension!

Hole in one!

Two more storms have hit and it looks a bit windy for Thursday - but hopefully we will be able to get Frieds's drive in done next Saturday!! Fingers crossed!

Thursday 17th Feb

Thursday Open

The 17th  saw eight of us enter the first winter Open 2 ball aggregate competition.

The weather forecast was not encouraging and a big storm was due the following day but the intrepid Cape ladies ventured out!

We began in a shower but it did brighten up and though it was long and hard work at times we were mostly glad to have got out there!

It was very easy to lose balls and not score on holes but we all completed!

We all enjoyed coffee, tea a glass of wine or all three and as we all had halos shining here is the full result!
Well played Lyn and Sue!

Thursday front 9

 Front 9

How lovely it is to have more of us playing again - thirteen of us today plus Lindsay and Ros who played a few and Di who came to do the cards - and nearly all of us stayed for coffee afterwards which is so good!

Conditions, especially at the start, were cold and breezy. Numb fingers were the order of the day but everyone played on!

As we neared the end of 9 holes it began to brighten and blue sky began to arrive!

It was still very cold though!

Of course we needed countback again, Lyn taking third with 15 points; Sue D second with 17 and our winner with a great score in the conditions was Liz with 18 points!

Well played and so lovely to see everyone!

Saturday 26th Feb is our Captain's Drive in - and for a bit of fun we're guessing where Frieda may hit her ball. We've now had 26 squares bought for £1 each - half going to Frieda's charity which is  https://www.isightcornwall.org.uk/ and half to the person who guesses best!
You can buy more than one square - the more the merrier!

Medal

Saturday  5th February

Eight ladies contested the medal on Saturday - there was a brisk breeze so conditions were far from easy but we stayed dry!

The scoring reflected the conditions with all of us scoring well over handicap but it was good to get a medal under the belt!

It was good to see Jenny, Marion and Lindsay who also played a few holes and thanks as always to Di for doing the cards.

Our winner was Fran with a score of Nett 81, with Lyn and yours truly second and third with a score of 83.

The scoring was very close altogether showing how we were all finding it difficult today.

Thursday 3rd February

Me Too!

There were just 6 lovely ladies that played today - several are away. We played the Back 9 and a Me Too.

A Me Too gives you three chances to move your ball to where your playing partner's ball ended; so if for example, you cannot find your ball after a drive on the 12th you can pretend it never happened and play from where your partner was!

The plan in my head was to save mine for later in the round... but it so happened that my three Me Toos were all used up in three holes!

It was a fun format - such a relief when you have messed up but your playing partner is safe! 😅

Conditions were pretty good though we did have a little drizzle towards the end - we saw it coming and it was only light so it wasn't too disheartening!

Wispy mizzle on its way in!

Di and Lindsay joined us to do the results; three  of us had 14 points apiece -fortunately countback wasn't needed because Antoinette had 16 points, Lyn had 17 and in first place was "I haven't played on a Thursday for about a year" Jayne with 18 points!

Well played - it was lovely to be out and meet up afterwards for coffee. Hopefully our numbers will pick up again soon.

Thanks Di and Lindsay for the card marking.
