Thanks as always to the course management team and to Di for coming over and collecting the cards and posting the results.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were absolutely glorious days and several of us made the most of the good weather and got out on the course.

It was perfect!

And of course it was a precursor to storms from the North, so Thursday and Saturday we had our golf cancelled again!

Such is life!

Medal and beyond

 Medal and more

On Saturday 6th November we had a medal with just 8 ladies playing. Conditions weren't easy once again although as you can see in the pictures we had some blue sky but most of us struggled with one thing or another.

The ground was heavy after the rain with lots of worm casts on the fairways - pick and place is certainly helpful at the moment!

No piskies hiding beneath these!

There was only one person who scored close to her handicap - with 6 pars and a really steady round was Hils - well played Hilary!

None of the rest of us came close although of course we had to use countback to separate the next 3 players!

But... who is Hilary Manley???

These lovely two tied the knot on Friday!

Congratulations on winning - in every way Hils!

Thursday 11th we actually managed to play a Back 9 fun competition. Frieda had asked us to count 3 scores on the first 3 holes we played... then two on the next three... and just one on the final three holes.

And we had fun!

The winning team with 32 points were Jayne, Liz and Sam closely followed by Sarah, Ros and Angie with 31!

And so to Saturday which was a fun Greensome competition. Just 10 ladies were able to play but despite the low numbers there was a lot of laughter on the course!

When playing golf we certainly need a sense of humour and the ability to laugh at ourselves. My playing partner Jenny had hit a nice drive on the 11th so I thought I'd let rip with mine and see how far I could hit it!

Not very far was the answer to that!

Just look at the size of that divot... and nowhere near the tee... honestly!!
😂
We did laugh a lot!
There were some lovely shots too mind you - Antoinette had a downhill putt from the back bank on the 13th and rolled it beautifully into the hole - shot of the day in our group!

Being very Covid aware still we sat outside and shared our coffee with even more laughter - it does the soul good to share these times together.

The winning team were Judy and Angie... Angie was the injured golfer as she had decided to hit a few balls in the practice nets and the ball had rebounded of a bar and hit her on the wrist and finger... both bruised... but clearly an excellent thing to do before you play!

Mind the gap...again!

 Mind the gap!

Apologies for not having updated the blog since mid October... I've had computer issues and the weather really hasn't been great for golf!

The Land's End Open happened on the 17th October, there were 65 entries and delighted that Sam came fourth and Fran 8th with Sue D 12th!

Well played ladies.

We did have a stableford on the 23rd with just 8 ladies entered with the results as follows

Last Saturday's Wheeler Bowl was cancelled after one of our ladies tested positive for Covid and the safest option for all concerned was to cancel the official competition - so a few ladies played but not in an official competition.

The Holman trophy was held on the Sunday (which is open to ladies)  but with the rather challenging weather and with our heightened Covid awareness no ladies entered.

And that brings us to this week's Thursday morning which turned into another challenge!

Having been away from the course for several weeks it was great to see it looking so good - with some new shrubs planted too.
But it was the weather that was the challenge!

We had really heavy showers and we all get very wet, especially those that started a little later!

We also had some sunshine and we scuttled along as quickly as possible to get in before the next shower!
Rainbows abound!

It really was beautifully!

Andy Brogan has set up a winter league competition for us all to play in if we'd like so some of us entered that too, this is a stableford off full handicap over 11 holes.

The results of our ladies stableford reflect the challenge of the weather!

Lady Captain's Charity Cup

Lady Captain's Charity Cup!

What a fabulous day!

There are lots of pictures to enjoy which show how much fun was had on the course today!

And what people thought of us heaven only knows!

All put in motion by the wonderful understated example of our captain, Sarah!

Be prepared for an overload of pictures and very little golf!

First off were these reprobates, looking so colourful!

Following close behind were Lady Captain and her team...

Standing sensibly wasn't allowed!

A rather sophisticated group followed on!

Classy or what?

The weather, which had started a bit foggy was a blue sky sort of day although there was a lot of damp on the grass and we left lovely trails through the grass!

The same was true of the greens where there were 'stepping stone' patterns of footprints!

This made putting interesting. Sometimes you might see a line that you'd be tempted to follow but it was easy to be misled!

Misled....?

Is it October?   Is that a Father Christmas I see before me?

You rub your eyes because you can't believe what you see... and suddenly you're seeing double!

Actually...

...there were three of them!

Absolutely fabulous and a wicked gleam in those eyes!

Talking of wicked gleams...

...did you need the head protection on the way round Fi?

Another naughty group followed!

It really looks like we were having too much fun!

The individual who won the best bad taste prize was our quiet and retiring lady Captain!

The group prize went to our Christmas wonders Liz, Sam and Angie!

In the golf...

third place was won by Fiona, Antoinette and Jayne with 100  points!

In second place with 104 points were Sue S, Sue D and Lyn and the winners ...

Bev, Claire and Chris J with 106  points.

Well played ladies!!

It was such an enjoyable day and we raised around £120 for the charity while we were having all that fun!

I 'd like to add that someone in our group tried very hard to lose the ball on the first hole...the drive almost reached the water... the second shot reached the long grass at the water's edge... the drop out was safe...but the next shot bounced on the far bank...just escaping the grasp of Crocodile Creek. Happy to say that each of us tried very hard to lose the ball but we managed to keep it to the end!

Mind you... it's not a bad approach to having a happy day...lose the golden ball early then you relax and have even more fun!

Thanks Sarah for a fabulous day and to Jean  for the results!

More please!

Botrea Bowl

 Botrea Bowl

Fifteen fabulous ladies played in the Botrea Bowl Stableford competition. The weather was a little overcast but good and there were some amazing scores recorded.

We have a new bell on the 4th which is greatly appreciated and which makes a rather nice dong!

We were able to sit outside after and it was lovely to all be together although the found the shape of the table tops entertaining!

In fourth place with a lovely 38 points was Fran.

In third doing one better was Angie with a score of 39 points!

But there is more to come!

In second place with a fabulous 41 points was Sam and our winner was Antoinette with an amazing 42 points!

What incredible scores!

Well played ladies and congratulations Ann on winning the trophy!

Sorry about the gap!

Catch up!

Sorry about the gap in posts but you know how it is!

A quick catch up... the Thursday front 9 on 23rd was a close run thing with four players on 18 points and two on 19! Great scoring ladies!

The Saturday of that week should have been a Stableford but the weather wasn't good so we didn't play.
The evening was the Anniversary dinner and the following day was the Anniversary Scramble which was won by Hilary and her team with Claire and hers in second place and Frieda, Ros and their team in third.
Well played ladies!

The final of the Ladies singles competition took place with a well fought contest between Fran and Sue D with Fran winning on the 14th hole.
Conditions were perfect and the match was played in excellent spirit. Congratulations Fran

The following Thursday was the back 9 and once again the weather intervened along with our Medal on Saturday!

The Trevelyan Scramble did take place on the Sunday despite heavy showers hanging around and a very strong wind!

Shower coming in!

Rainbow promising better things!

It was challenging to say the least but there were runaway winners in Sam, Timmy and Rob McC with a score of 53. Well played team!

In second place were Frieda, Mark P and Dan F scoring 57 points.

That brings us up to this week and on Thursday eleven ladies played the front nine with some more great scores. Well played everyone.
