This and that

This and that

Saturday's competition was cancelled because of the weather... hail showers borne on gale force winds ... definitely not good golfing weather.

But look at today!

Picture perfect and golf perfect!

The greens are faster again which made putting more challenging!

Mark, Chris and Brian were working on flattening the men's third tee. Not an easy task; the turf first has to be cut and removed (ready to be re-laid); the ground is then dug over and flattened before the turf is relaid on a hopefully beautifully smooth, flat surface.

I've put in a request for the ladies twelfth tee to receive the same treatment... but the equipment had to be hired specially so we will have to wait for another time... hopefully it's on the list!

As always... many thanks to the guys for the condition of the course... the fairways are the particular difficulty at the moment as they are still awaiting a fairway mower. It is good that we are in the preferred lies season so we can at least find a reasonable point to place the ball.

Thursday Front 9

Thursday Front 9

Twelve lovely ladies came to play the front 9 today. The air temperature had dropped to single figures and there was a definite breeze but conditions were good.

Shadows are definitely lengthening but the light gave some beautiful colours!

I'd like to say that we all came in with similar scores but it would not be true... there was an outstanding player today... and that was Jenny who scored 23 points!
Fantastic score - well played!
Jenny's round included pars on the 2nd, 3rd,4th and 6th!
Super play!

in second was Lyn with a very nice 18 points and in third was Frieda who scored 17 points off her new handicap of 32.
Well played!

Another notable score was Pam on the first... with a par for 4 points!

Well done all...

Oh... and this was presented ...

Botrea Bowl

Botrea Bowl

There was a lovely turnout for this competition on Saturday - 21 ladies played - and the conditions were absolutely gorgeous.

The sun shone and there was the gentlest of breezes. Most of us ended up in tee shirts - amazing weather for late October.

Angie and Lindsay
Hilary beat Fran to third place on countback - both with 35 points.
In second place with 36 was Jane and in first was myself with 40 points!
The practicing is helping! Not to mention the odd bit of luck!

There was a wedding on in the clubhouse so some of us sat outside for a while... and some even waited to see the bride!
Thanks to Jayne for being the courier - taking the cards to Di... and to Di for processing them at home.

The fact that we haven't been able to meet up after play for seemingly ages means that it has been difficult to get the changes to the calendar announced.

I believe dates are as follows...

2 ball scramble next Saturday 27th

Saturday November 3rd Medal

Saturday November 10th Charity Day. Men, Ladies and Mixed teams welcome.
Sunday November 11th Cornwall v Rest of the World

Saturday Nov 17th Godolphin Goblet (Take 4!)
Sunday Nov 18th Holman Trophy

Wednesday evening 21st Nov 2019 Rules Evening - an informal look at the changes for 2019... meeting at Pam's

Saturday 24th 3 ball aggregate
Sunday 25th Jack Arnold

Charity Coffee Morning

Charity Coffee Morning

There was a lovely turnout of ladies for Sue's Charity Coffee morning.
There were players from Looe, Tehidy, Killiow and West Cornwall (apologies if I've missed any other clubs) and we were blessed with decent weather.

Raffle Table

It was lovely to see Anne and Jean who came to do the raffle, and many thanks to Di for signing everyone in, preparing the cards and also spotting for us on the 12th - brilliant!

Jean and Anne also helped Ros with the cakes... Cape ladies had been asked to provide Cake for everyone and what a spread they created!

The cakes were delicious...I can vouch for the taste of several of them... the ginger cake; millionaire's shortbread; lemon and orange polenta cake and the tea bread!  (Just the odd calorie, eh?) So, particular thanks from me to those bakers... I'm just sorry I didn't have space to try all others - they all looked yummy!

The course was looking good despite the recent problems with the fairway mower. George has two storage units coming soon and they are also awaiting a new mower. Fingers crossed.

The coffee morning betterball competition was held over 15 holes although ladies were welcome to complete the course if they wanted to.

Countback was needed to decide second place... (surprise!)  with 39 points...  were Sandy King from Looe and Lynn Exley.

Well played both...

but they were beaten by these two wonderful women...

who scored 40 points - well played Pam and Frieda!

Sue raised £430 for the Alzheimer's Charity. Well done everyone for making it such a successful day.

Bloomin' weather!

Bloomin' weather!
The heavy rain and strong winds that we had last Saturday led to the cancellation of the Medal round... today was awful and no ladies played... but in between times we have had some lovely days.

A group of our ladies went to Tehidy for a training day on Wednesday - I'm looking forward to hearing details ...and seeing the results on the course 😃

Saturday's Godolphin Goblet was also called off because of the weather!

4th OctoberThursday

Thursday Front 9

Today was the first opportunity to play a 9 hole round as part of Sue and Steve's new 9 hole Trophy Competition.

Entry is £3 and we play a stableford as usual, recording our scores at the back of the Blue Eclectic folder on a yellow sheet that Di has prepared for us.
Happy Days!

We turned up to play today with considerable doubts as to if play was possible or not... the reason...

Can you spot two yellow balls? Drives that actually went straight AND through the wall!!

It was foggy but we could see the wall so off we set - ten ladies playing and we were rewarded with breaks in the fog - even blue sky above us at one point.

But the greyness remained and the mist drifted in and out.

There were only 6 points between the highest and lowest scores... we were all much of a muchness!

Our winner was Captain Sue with 18 points, in second place was Chris J with 17 points (but two blobs!) and in third place was yours truly with 16 points.

Well played all - it was good to get out on the course especially when we had hadn't really expected to!

Bosullow Bowl

Bosullow Bowl

Seventeen pairs competed in the Bosullow Bowl on Saturday. This competition began in 1990 when the club opened, the trophy which was donated by Anne was for a Mixed Greensome Competition.

We had lovely weather with a blue sky and gentle breeze, but it's definitely turning cooler.

Looking at back at previous competitions the winners came in with scores in the mid forties and the same was true today!

Chris and Jane just pipped Frieda and John to fourth place on countback with 40 points.

In third place with 42 points were Robin and Sue...
In second were Lyn and Kenny with 43...

and in first place were Claire and Ray with 44 points!

Well played both and congratulations!

After the presentation of the trophy by Anne to the winners, we had a little presentation of our own for Anne.

Anne was a founder member of the club and she has recently decided to hang up her golf shoes.

We will miss her a lot and hope she will be coming out to see us frequently, but we couldn't let the moment pass without marking it.

Jane had arranged a lovely cake; Di created a wonderful album of memories and we also gave her a table lamp that she had fallen in love with at the St Just Craft Fair earlier in the year.

So, thank you for all the fun Annie... and please keep coming to see us and keep us all in order.
