Thursday 25th and more away success!

 Thursday 25th August

There were a number of knockout matches being played and despite conditions improving on the back 9 it was decided to have an informal roll up on the front 9 for those that wanted to play.

It is lovely to see the course greening up a bit...

and it was lovely to see so many playing, 11 not in the matches, everyone seemed to have fun!

There was also more success for our ladies in the Looe Open!

Well played Hils and Sue D! Lovely result!

Cape will definitely be getting a reputation! The seniors also registered a win at Looe with John Pring, Tim Stobbs and Steve Pennington in the winning team!
Go Cape!!!

It was a much better day today (20th) although overcast and breezy. Eleven ladies played in the 11 hole fun competition and some good scores were returned.

In first place with a super 26 points was Sue D, second was Liz with 25 and in third was Claire with 24.

Looking at the cards there was one amazing hole for Sarah! On the third she had an Eagle!!! Well played! You must tell us what happened!!

In the afternoon many of us got together at Frieda's to mark her wonderful achievement at the England Golf Medal Final.

It was also someone's birthday... spot the photo-bomber!

Thank you Frieda for a wonderful time!

Too hot to handle!

 August Heat

The weather over the last weeks has been very dry and on occasion extremely hot.

The result is the course has dried out and has become like concrete in many places and the back 9 almost unplayable.

The day after the league match just a few ladies played and put in cards but we had no organised competition.

Amazing survivor on the 8th fairway!

The back 9 on Thursday was cancelled because of the conditions and the Trophy competitions have been delayed until the course is fairer to play on...at the moment it is a lottery.

An example...the Seniors competition on Tuesday of that week... on the 12th hole  ... out of 25 players 16 had NRs; the men had a similar problem with half of their players not scoring on that hole.

Anyway... because of the postponement of the trophy comps we had a fun 11 hole individual stableford instead.

In third place with 22 points - on countback from Hilary  - was Sue S; in second was Liz with 25 and in first with 27 was myself!

Well done everyone!

We could do with some mizzle,  then drizzle and then a gentle rain...but we'd like them all at night please!

Stop Press!

 England Golf Medal Winners' Final

Our wonderful Captain travelled up country for the Final of the England Golf Medal Winners competition played at Woodhall Spa.

In front of the first tee.

Forty-three ladies were in the competition form all over England. The scores ranged from 16 to 42... it is now a stableford competition... and many of us followed the results as they came in thanks to Di giving us the link!

Frieda was second!!!!

An absolutely fantastic achievement, scoring 35 points!

A huge well done Frieda for battling through the heat and the 145 bunkers!!!

You deserve a medal Frieda! Well done!

Playing Away

 Playing Away!

Monday 1st saw Hilary and Sue, and Di and Frieda go to St Austell for the County Flag day. The winning score was 44  (Betterball) with our girls scoring 38 and 37 points. No prizes this time but good to be representing Cape at this County Competition.

Tuesday 2nd Sam Jayne and I went to China Fleet for their open. It was lovely to be back on the course where we'd had one of our Away weekends.

We were delighted thet we came second with 89 points (a three ball with two scores to count off 85%). The winning team were from China Fleet and scored 91.

On Thursday 4th it was the turn Truro's with about 16 Cape ladies playing there.

The winning score was an amazing 51 points (betterball) and was posted by these two reprobates!

Well played Di and Lindsay! Amazing score!

Also among the prizes were Fi and Antoinette and Chris D and Anne U .

Well played all!

Friday!!

Finally on Friday we had our league match against Perranporth!

Conditions were good, sunny with a bit of a breeze; the course was brown with oasis of greens! The greens were amazing, and fast!

We lost the match 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 but put up a very good fight. Perran were very welcoming and we had lovely food afterwards.

Well played everyone in the team - Fran, Frieda, Lindsay, Lyn, Ruth, Sam and our team Captain Sue D.

Scramble

 Saturday 30th July

Saturday saw 14 ladies compete in a fun scramble - we played off handicap adjustments of 35% of the lower handicap and 15% of the higher one.

It was very misty and damp and it swirled in and out... the start was a little erratic because of it and after a while Keith came out to find us and say we had to pause play for a bit because it had thickened up.

Liz and I decided we didn't have the energy to walk back to the club and then return later so we waited on the next tee. It was about 10 minutes and then it was crystal clear!!!

So we restarted and played two more holes... wondering if anyone would rejoin us. To our relief they did!

The mist remained away from then on and the teams came in with some fabulous scores! There were only 5 points between us all!

In third place with a nett 68 were Fiona and Chris D (on countback from Claire and Lindsay!); in second were Liz and me with 66 and in first place with 65 were Sue D and Ros!

Well played everyone - it was fun to be playing a Scramble again and the weather turned out ok in the end despite the foggy start!
