Sunshine!

Somewhere special.

What an amazing course we play!
Whatever our golf is like - this is a most special place.

Today was a back 9 Stableford and fifteen ladies turned up to play. It was lovely to welcome back Jan and Lynne from trips away. Several ladies were away with the SW Ladies Vets at China Fleet, and Ruth didn't play because on Tuesday she forgot that she wasn't young and agile - jumping ditches took its toll!
Sonia and Michelle

Nine ladies played in the A group and the winner had to be decided on Countback. Michelle and Lindsay both scored a fantastic 18 points (both also having one blob!). In the end, Michelle won on Countback.
Below is Michelle playing on to the 12th green.

It must be said that Jan was unfortunate not to be in the winnings with a score of 17 and Ros was fourth with 16. Well played ladies!

There were 6  ladies in the 'B' group and the winner was Frieda.
Frieda on the 14th
Countback came into play again for second place with Jean just pipping Liz!

The weather was beautiful today, so different to what we have experienced over the winter. Di, for example, played the Back Nine for the first time since the beginning of the Winter Eclectic back in November!

Finally... how about this for a putt....

...so close!

Weather!

Saturday Eggstravaganza

The weather put paid to this competition today, with rain and over 40mph winds. Several ladies enjoyed a coffee and a chat - lets hope for better weather on Thursday and for next weekend.

Thursday 24th March
The weather forecast was for heavy rain coming in at about 10am and it was spitting with rain at 9am. After some prevarication, Frieda and Ruth decided to play  a couple of holes to earn their coffee. In fact they ended up playing 1,2 and 3 then 8 and 9. They decided to quit then and keep their clubs dry. It had been windy with the odd bit of rain in the air but nothing major.
The coffee/hot chocolate and cake was very welcome after that. Frieda scored at least 12 points on those 5 holes... Ruth did not!
It was good to get some fresh air though!

Trethorne final Morning

Trethorne - final morning

This is how to start the day!
Annie set the standard with her final morning breakfast! What was that with her healthy cereal? Whatever it was, it gave her enough energy to play the 9 hole farewell.
In fact 12 ladies played today - a great turnout!
The fiery foursome of Liz, Angela, Chris and Judy set off first.

They look so innocent!

Others felt the need to practise!

The second four was Claire, Jayne, Ruth and Michelle. Followed by Lyn, Ros and Sue S and finally Jenny and Anne.

Ros, Lyn and Sue on the fifth

Nice one Annie!

Playing through on the 6th

The 2nd group of four decided to keep a stableford score and also count their putts on the green. This made for some interesting play - celebrating when the ball just missed the green seemed rather odd!
Was Claire avoiding the bunker or the putting surface of the 9th hole?
Claire became adept at keeping the ball on the fringe of the green although it was taking it to extremes on the 9th hole - see the picture above!
Michelle won the Stableford score and Claire the putting - they were both awarded virtual prizes - no money changed hands!

A final coffee together in the bar ... and then it was time to say farewell to Trethorne and each other.
We had a wonderful time; great weather; excellent food and amazing company.

Thank you Sonia.
Bye-bye Trethorne

Trethorne Monday

Monday

Monday morning broke blue skied and frosty!

Some ladies managed to get some beauty sleep overnight....

Sunny Hils

Today's competition was an individual stableford - playing for 'The Cup'. We went out in groups of four - playing with our room mates and another pair.
Once again the 2nd hole proved a godsend early on, with 17 ladies getting pars today and 3 getting birdies. The remainder of the round wasn't always so straightforward.

Sonia playing to the third green from the fourth fairway - she was not alone doing this today!
The tricky fourth had three groundsmen working just behind the green. Always awkward having people around.
Groundsmen working on the 4th Green

Perfect for a little 8 iron on to the green thought Michelle. She connected with the ball beautifully and sent the ball high in the air. It dropped onto the green just in front of one of the men, it took a huge bounce and almost connected with his head! He ducked... and when he'd recovered he offered to take Michelle into the bushes to find her ball!
 And she went!

The 8th from the far side.

The 8th must need dredging! At least 7 balls disappeared into it's deep waters today! However one of our ladies had a very positive attitude - she described the lake simply as a 'water feature'.

Here she is teeing off on the 8th...

Her ball landed on the green and she gained a par! Well played Michelle... no groundsmen on this hole!
There is another lady who deserves a mention here. Someone getting a 2 on this hole!
Well done, Judy!
Fantastic!

The 'Water Feature'

Claire, Jayne and Antoinette

Lindsay's chip on to the 12th!
Sonia chose the 13th for a Nearest the Pin competition. This was won by Bev - well done!

Other than the  three birdies on the 2nd hole, there were three other birdies today. Judy's as mentioned above on the 8th; Chris L who birdied the par four 7th, and Sonia who birdied the 16th with a long putt.  Well done each.

The winner of  The Cup was All-Conquering Chris J with 38 points (and 3 blobs!)

Mighty Michelle was second with 37 points (2 blobs and a greenkeeper!)
Vivacious Val G was third on countback with 36 (and 2 blobs!)
Lissome Lindsay was fourth with 36 (and also 2 blobs).

We were certainly blessed with fabulous weather today... all down to Sonia I think.

In the early evening we collected all together in Sonia and Lindsay's room. Lindsay, Hils and Sue D had to leave after this because of work commitments.

Some pictures of our evening before we waved farewell to them.

Evening wear!

Consigned to the cupboard?

Ask Judy!

Judy rewarded for her 2 on the 8th!

Sue unsure about her 2 on the 2nd!

Lyn enjoying her 2 with a chip in on the 16th!

Claire winning today's Back 9.

Jean, winner of the B Group!

All Conquering Chris winning the Cup!

Many thanks to Sonia for arranging this trip :-)

Ruth won the ball sweep with a guess of 65
68 Balls were lost in total.
We said farewell to Sue D, Hils and Lindsay and then went for our evening meal... some assorted pics follow
Add a caption of your own!

Is this my best side?
Or this?

Ahhh... it's THIS!

And finally.... the sun set on a lovely day.
