Bob Lynne Trophy and catch up

Bob Lynne Trophy

Today dawned damp and overcast but the strong breeze blew away the clouds and we ended up playing in sunshine!

Preparing to tee off on 11
There were some very interesting and fabulous shots made today...
Ros precariously balanced on the third!
Ros put this on on the edge of the green on the third and she got a 2 on the twelfth when she hit a shot from above the wall into the hole!

Chris L also had a two - this one was on the 13th! Deciding to use a higher tee to try and get some height on the ball Chris cracked a beautiful shot onto the green and she holed the putt!
Well played both!

It wasn't always beautiful shots though as between us all we seem to have lost many balls ... our group lost several on 12, 14 and 15! I know others had similar experiences!

However there were fabulous scores in today - ranging from 35 to 46 - with three teams on 44 points!
In third place were Lyn and Sue S with a score of 44, (beating Jean and me on countback). They in turn were pipped to second place by Fran and Chris L who also scored 44 points.

In first place with a magnificent 46 points were Jane and Frieda!
Super score - well played!

There were several ladies with four-pointers today - Jayne (13th) Frieda (4th) and I (7th) had one each; Bronwen (10th and 12th) and Lindsay (13th and 14th) both had two; Chris  L had one on the 14th plus her 5-pointer on 13th and Ros had her 5 points on the 12th!

Well played everyone today - it was a lot of fun today.

Huge thanks to Lynne for making this such a special competition and
thanks as always to Mark and the team for the course which was clearly playing well!

...and catch up!

Seven ladies were away on Thursday playing the League match against Newquay and I was away in Bath meeting up with family.

For all those who met Phil  and supported him on his bike ride here he is...
with Bridgie who turned up as a suprprise!

He's still riding regularly as is Tim who is in Korea with Phil.

Enough family stuff... there was a lovely turn out of ladies at Cape for the front 9.
Thirteen plus Sue P(Andy's sister). I hear from our ladies that she hits a lovely ball and I  hear from Sue herself that she had a lovely time and that playing with us has rekindled her enjoyment of golf. She'll be keeping her card as one towards getting a handicap!

Well done all - there were some lovely scores - I'm going to mention four - Mighty Marion had a super 16; Lovely Liz had an enviable 18; Luscious Lyn had a nimble 19 just losing on countback on the final hole to Positive Pam!

Well played everyone.

Andy had a birthday and Bill and Leanne arranged a surprise party for him on Friday night. Assorted pictures follow - we had a lot of fun!

Surprise!!!

Not sure if the video wtll work but giving it a try!

Super evening - thanks Leanne and Andy - here's to many more :-)

And Finally...

Congratulations Cape - to all the ladies who have played in the League matches this year and have supported in any way - we are second and will be going up to the first division!!!
This is a fabulous achievement.

More on this when it's all signed, sealed and delivered!

Treverven Trophy

Treverven Trophy

Today was the Treverven Trophy Mixed Competition. It is a California Scramble and once again we were given sunshine and blue skies.

A blue, blue sea!
There was however a drawback... a very strong wind, especially when we began.
We started on two tees; the first and the 10th, eight teams of three players.

In fact we had a bit of juggling to do as someone was unable to play so our thanks to Andy for swapping teams and to Cyril, Bron and Jean for their understanding.

A group of canoes braving the elements.
Looking at the cards there were an abundance of pars and eighteen birdies.
Jayne chipped in on the third from the bottom of the steep bank!
Worthy of the pink head-cover!
In fact we all seem to like teeing off the yellows on the 3rd and 9th!

In third place were the happy team of Cyril, Jean and Bronwen with a score of 70.625.

In second place were German, Fran and Angie with a score of 69.625

and in first place with a score of 62.75 were William, Jayne and myself.

Many thanks to everyone who played today - mixed competitions are always fun so particular thanks to the gentlemen who joined us.

Last but not least... quite a few of us stayed for lunch which was a carbonara (or ham, egg and chips!)

It was absolutely delicious and on hot plates!
Perfect!
Many thanks to Jodi in the kitchen and to Tanya, Ashley and Sue who looked after us.

As always, thanks to Mark and the team for the course which is playing well, and to Leanne and Andy for making it all possible.

Thursday Back 9

Thursday Back 9

Eleven lovely ladies played the back 9 today and the conditions were very good.

The course was looking fabulous and the greens running well (thanks Mark and team!).

Tee shots on the 13th!

How much better it is to be playing off the forward tees on the 13th. Some even get the chance of a two! Though both these missed...

There were three birdies today, two on the 14th (Judy and myself) and Pam birdied the 12th. Well done each.
Our winner today was Pam with a  fabulous 22 points!
Countback was needed to separate three players for second and third places. All three had 19 points.
Judy was just pipped to 3rd by Ros and I just pipped Ros to second place!

Well played everyone.

Lyn joined us for coffee - she's waiting to see the consultant to find out when she can play again - we're hoping it's soon.
We also had a lively discussion about jumper colours over coffee, Ros and Marion were wearing two of the colours we liked... (see the pic below) with the turqouise-greeny blue colour being the most popular among the twelve ladies at the table.

Treverven Trophy on Saturday - California Scramble - should be fun :-)

Admiration Cup and Godolphin Goblet

Admiration Cup and Godolphin Goblet

The drenching rain of yesterday had passed and we had lovely weather today!

Seventeen ladies were playing... four in the Admiration Cup and the rest were fighting over the Godolphin Goblet.
It was a lovely turnout.
Waiting on the third.
The colours on the course today were beautiful - you can see why Andy and Leanne chose the CCC logo colours...
Perfection!
There was some great play today with folk chipping in and almost chipping in - for example Di almost had an eagle on the 11th!
Di's almost eagle...but a definite birdie!

And there was a great story to be told on the 14th...
Sue D hit her drive on to the fairway...

 so far so good...

then she hit her second towards the green.

When she and Ros reached the green they could only see one ball,  Ros's and  no sign of Sue's until she looked in the hole!

A fabulous two!

Well played!

So to the results, in third place in the Godolphin Goblet was yours truly with 36 points; in second was Claire who also had 36 points and in first place was Sue D with an amazing 44 points!
Godolphin Goblet Triumph!
Super well done Sue!
For the full result click here.

In the Admiration Cup it was a more closely run thing with Pam in second place and Bronwen in first - her first such win!
Well played Bron!

It was impossible to enter the scores on the computer because of a technical hitch but they will be available as soon as they can be done.
Watch out for handicap adjustments... especially for Sue who must be due a huge trim!

Well played everyone today  and it was lovely to see Lyn at the end - thank you for doing the cards!!

Results of Admiration Cup are here.

Thursday front9

Front nine

There were 8 ladies competing today, more turned up but one wasn't feeling too good and the other two felt coffee and chat was the best option!
The rain showers that were in Penzance had missed Cape and the sun even came out before we'd finished.
Our winner was Sue D with 18 points, with yours truly second with 16.

Di explained about the new scorecard which has now been agreed with all interested parties and should be available in October.
There will be a a matchplay stroke index for both men and ladies to use; and the stableford stroke indices will be a reflection of the difficulty of each hole based on a vast array of results over the years.

Other stuff:-
Pie night on Saturday... let Leanne and Andy know... beef, fish, shepherds, vegetarian pies on the menu for £10.
There may be fireworks courtesy of the wedding at the Big House...
Wigwams! Ready for a wedding!

The next Gourmet evening is on Tuesday 3rd September and will be Thai.

Examples of the Adidas tee shirts Andy has sourced are available to try for size, then Andy will put in an order.

League v Newquay

League v Newquay

Today was our final home League match - against Newquay who were top of the league.

Conditions were great, a fresh breeze but beautiful sunshine!

The result was a win to Cape - 4 matches to 3!
Well played team!

This puts us at the top of the table for the moment - by just one point, but most teams have (like us) at least two matches left to play, so our final position is far from clear!

Today's terrific team were Bev, Jane, Hils, Ros, Ruth, Sarah and Sue D.
Well played ladies!

We were well cared for afterwards with a lovely meal - many thanks to Leanne and Andy; Ashley and team and to Mark and his team for the condition of the course.

Our next match is away at Newquay in a couple of weeks time!

Botrea Bowl
The trophy competition today was postponed because of the gale force winds.
It will be rescheduled when possible.

Thursday Back 9 and Italian Night!

Thursday Back 9

Eight lovely ladies played in the Back 9 competition today. Conditions were overcast and blustery - at times looking very threatening but rain stayed away.

Chris L and Sue D both had 16 points with Sue earning second place on countback.
In first place with a wonderful 20 points (including two four-pointers) was Judy!
Well played!

Yesterday saw the first of Leanne and Andy's special dining evenings with Peter Gorton.
The theme was Italian and the evening was superb.

Peter began with a chat and demonstration, explaining how some of the foods we were going to savour were created.

The main course was either Bream or Braised beef... both were absolutely delicious.

Between the courses Peter explained the creation of the pudding and we played a game (heads or tails) to win a copy of his book.
The recipient was Roy... so we should all be round there for a meal soon!

The whole evening was lovely and Leanne and Andy are planning another next month.
There are a lot of bookings already so if you want to be there for the next one you'll need to talk to Leanne asap!

August Medal and Vet's Vase

Medal and Vet's Vase

It was a warm and muggy day at Cape today - we even had a drop or two of rain - but it was bright and sunny by the end.

Some of the ladies who had hoped to play in the competition were unable to, but times were adjusted  as necessary and we hope everyone will be back and able to play soon.

Heather on the 14th
Fran and Jayne teed off on the 8th, the balls seemingly going in different directions...
however... when they got to them on the fairway...!

They put the tee peg there to show how close they were!
We couldn't do it if we tried!

The winner of the Vet's Vase was Judy with a score of Nett 72!
Well played!

Well played Judy!
In the "Juniors" as Di described the rest...
Jayne was second with another good round scoring a Nett 70 and in first place winning the August medal with a super Nett 69  (including 7 pars and a birdie), was Hilary!
Super play Hils!

Well played everyone! There were some handicap changes so don't forget to check either on master-scoreboard or on the Handicap List Page on this site which is up to date.

Thursday Front 9

Thursday 1st August

Twelve wonderful women played this morning and we were joined by these two lovely ladies!
Sonia and Anne
It was great to see them and to catch up especially with Sonia as she hasn't been at the club for a while!

Once again there were some fabulous scores with two nineteens and four ladies with 20 points!

Judy, Chris L, Bronwen and Sue D were our twenty-pointers, with Sue chipping in on the fourth for a birdie!

In third place was Judy, in second was Chris and in first place was Bronwen!
Well played all!

Catching up!

Viv has given Di a lovely album with photos in from Lady Captain's day - I'll be adding them to the blog soon.

Lyn also joined us with the bandage removed from her hand, it is improving by the day. Hopefully back on the course before long!

Also, our new cards for Cape are here, so collect yours from the bar next time you're down, they look like this...

And finally, well done to Frieda for winning the Longest drive in the Bronze division at Killiow yesterday in the Team Open and well done to Hilary, Sue D and Sarah for 7th place.

Back 9 25th July

Back 9
Belated result from the back 9 last week. Seven ladies played and there were some lovely scores, in third place on count back was Lynne with 18 points, she was just pipped to second place by Judy who also had 18 points.
The winner with 19 points was Chris L.
Well played all.
4 ladies bobbed the 16th? Was there something interesting going on?
