Thursday Front 9

Thursday Front 9

First things first...

Huge congratulations to Lyn and Kenny on their marriage on Monday!
💑
You look absolutely gorgeous Lyn!

Di presented Lyn with a bottle of Champagne from the ladies to mark the occasion!
🎉

As for this mornings golf... the heavy rain slowly stopped and 6 brave women played the front 9.

In third with 13 points was Lynne.

In second position (with 14 points) was... Mrs Lugg!

And in first, with a birdie on the third and pars on 4 and 6, was Fi with 17 points!
Well played Fi, it wasn't easy in the wind!

It was good to see several of our number who came for coffee; Bron (who was selling Ducks!); Jean; Ros; Judy and Chris and our Captain Di!

Matchplay Saturday

Matchplay Saturday

Today, 18 ladies played in a Matchplay practice competition. The aim was to remind us of the format and get us thinking in a matchplay way.

Frieda and Sue D played each other in a singles match and they set off first and whistled round quickly with Sue D coming out on top winning 2 and 1. That's a close match and Sue won the two balls allocated to each member of the winning sides.

Hilary and Pam played against Sue S and Antoinette and it was Hilary and Pam who came out winners... well played.

Lyn and Jayne were next out playing against Lindsay and myself.  This was hotly contested and after Lyn and Jayne took the lead over the first 5 holes Lindsay and I managed to combine really well and got back to all square, eventually winning on the 15th.

Jean and Jane were playing against Fran and Chris James; and Judy and Ros played against Claire and Jenny... both these matches ended halved (winning a ball each).

It was good to test out the new matchplay card; the more even distribution of shots seemed to work well,
and it was also good to get into the way of thinking used in matchplay.

Thanks to Di for giving us the chance - it was good preparation for the coming year! Our first match is not that far away!

4 Ball Betterball is always a demanding format and today was particularly challenging for two trolleys! Unfortunately Claire's trolley bit the dust (again)... it's last chance has gone; Claire will be looking out for a replacement! Chris J also had problems with her trolley... so well done to all for completing all that we did.

And finally... the pink head-cover was presented to yours truly for a shot onto the 15th green...it took a kind bounce and ended up inches from the hole for a tap in 4!

The most entertaining shot must however must go to Lindsay who had a drive on the fourth hole which was heading straight down the hill, heading left and towards out of bounds... it bounced in the hedge and must have connected with a rock as the ball shot high into the air and landed 50 yards away in the middle of the fairway!
We decided she should buy a lottery ticket today!

Back Nine Blues

Back Nine Blues

...sounds like a song!

Today we played the back nine from the Blue tees to see how we got on. It is really interesting playing the course from these tees... it makes you think about club selection and we find ourselves in different places to usual!

With the sun low in the sky we had gorgeous shadows...  but we also had a stiff breeze alongside the gorgeous sunshine which made scoring quite tricky.
Putting on the 17th was certainly interesting!

Our winner in the B group was Angie with a nett 36.

In the A group our winner was Antoinette with a nett 32; in second was Sue D with 34 and in third was Pam with 36.5!

There was a lovely turnout with 16 ladies taking part, well played everyone!

Saturday see us play a Matchplay competition - something we haven't done for some while - it'll be good to brush up on it!

3 clubs and a putter

3 Clubs and a Putter

Sixteen wonderful women played this competition today!

We were allowed three clubs alongside our putter... choosing which clubs to take was a difficult decision... but decisions were made and off we went.

Unfortunately the lovely sunshine we had on Thursday was hidden behind low cloud and then drizzle... along with another fresh breeze!

This format is certainly challenging, it makes you play shots in a different way... however there were at least 3 ladies who chipped in this morning! Sue S on the second, Claire on the 4th and myself on the 6th...

By the time the first players out had reached the 7th the drizzle had well and truly begun and with the wind it was quite unpleasant out there.
After continuing on for a bit it was decided to curtail the competition at the 11th hole.
The weather did improve for a while but the drizzle and strong wind returned and the decision to stop was a sensible one.

Pam on the 11th tee

Our winner was Sarah with a lovely 16 points, this included a par on the 4th;
in second place (on countback of course!) was Hilary with 15 points, this included a par on the third
and in third place, also with 15 points, was Lyn who parred the 10th.

Other pars and birdies... Fran parred the third; Frieda parred and Claire birdied the 4th with a chip in; yours truly birdied the 6th also with a chip in; Sue S parred the 9th and Lindsay parred the 10th.

It was good to out even though conditions weren't the best.

Congratulations to Chris J on her special birthday today and thank you for the drinks you bought us ☕.

How good was that?

Sunshine!

How lovely it was to be out on the course today in the sunshine. There was a fresh breeze blowing but we'll take that any day!

This morning we played off the Blue tees on the front 9 with the aim of finding out how we'd score from these new positions. This was with the particular intention of working out what the Blue Tee stroke index will be.

It certainly made the holes shorter, and it will be interesting to see how they play over time. Next week, weather permitting Di would like us to do the same on the back 9.
All scores off the the blue tees will help decide the stroke indices so if we play a social round off them, then please pass on the cards to Di.

So today we,(18 of us - yippee!) played 9 holes strokeplay and took off half our handicap to work out our final places.

In the A group our winner was Frieda with a fabulous 34 points. In second was Sarah with 35 and in third place (on countback from Chris J) was Sue D with 36. There were several scores in the 37s.

In the B group our winner was Angela with a fabulous 34 points - same as Frieda!

Well played all!

It was great to see so many out playing, and to see Ros who came up to do the card marking - hopefully she'll be out on the course soon.

Saturday is 3 clubs and a putter... which clubs I wonder... I must put my thinking cap on....????????

PS  Last Thursday and Saturday had challenging weather (to say the least) and although some played a few holes on Saturday the competitions were called off. Lets hope today's weather stretches far into to future!

Weather disruption and Scramblers!

Thursday 31st and Saturday Feb 2nd

Rain and more rain put paid to both the Thursday morning roll up and Saturday's medal. It was a real shame because Saturday turned bright in the afternoon, although it remained bitterly cold.

New Captain's Trophy

Sunday saw the re-run of the Men's New Captain's Trophy. This was a scramble and we had really good conditions to play in.

There were 9 teams... mostly of four players,  and there were some good scores.
The course is in lovely condition and the greens were playing fast.

Winning team!

The results were as follows!
