What a difference a day makes!

Saturday - the re-scheduled Polgalse 2

We woke to fog on Saturday morning... and despite prayers and pleading it did not shift in time for us to play the Polgalse Stableford... so it has been re-scheduled (again) for next Saturday!
Fingers crossed!

Sunday - The Presidents' Cups

A day later and we were playing in warm sunshine with the lightest touch of a breeze.

Conditions were perfect for the Presidents' three cups and there were some fabulous scores.

The winner of the Ladies Trophy was Jayne with a super 41 points!

Well played!

Well played also to Hilary and Fran who were second and third with 39 and 38 points respectively!
Super play all round.
Nine ladies had been able to play today.

Timmy was the winner of the Men's Trophy, also with 41 points!

The winner of the Seniors Trophy was Bob with an incredible 46 points!

Well played all...

After the presentations we were treated to some delicious cake - courtesy of Leanne and Andy! It was their Uncle Peter's birthday and to mark the occasion they had a beautiful cake made...
Now that's what I call a cake!
Happy Birthday Peter and many thanks - it was delicious!

Brian was the only winner of the twos (on the 13th) - well played!

Tomorrow we have a League match at Truro and Fi and Antoinette are off up to Launceston to play in the Aussie Spoons - good luck all!

Gales and New Beginnings!

Thursday 27th June

Gale force winds put paid to any golf this morning! Instead we enjoyed coffee and chat, it was especially lovely to have Viv come and join us too!

As folk arrived and others left we drank more coffee and were then delighted to have the chance to meet Leanne and Andy, the new owners of Cape!

Welcome!

They are awaiting the final 'tick in the box' from the National Trust but hopefully everything will be signed and sealed by tomorrow.

It was lovely to meet them both and we wish them both well. It will be lovely to have  Leanne join us out on the course soon...although best not in this wind!

Andy was hoping to play tomorrow but the even stronger winds forecast tomorrow may result in a reassessment!

The Ladies Friendly due to be played at Cape tomorrow has been cancelled because of the gales.

League v Mullion

League v Mullion

Monday saw us welcome a team from Mullion to play in our next league match.

Conditions were lovely with a glorious blue sky and sea but it was hot and humid! Fortunately there was a gentle breeze to alleviate the heat.

The match was closely fought... and played in excellent spirit.

Heavy mist out to sea.

George and Ashley provided us with a lovely meal, appreciated by everyone.

The result of the match was a win to Cape 4 matches to 3!

Well played ladies and thanks to Lyn for standing in for Hilary.

The team were Bev, Fiona, Fran, Lyn, Ros, Ruth and Sue D.

Wheeler Bowl

Wheeler Bowl

We were blessed with lovely sunshine for the Wheeler Bowl but there was a very strong breeze to keep everyone on their toes!

This trophy competition used to be a foursomes medal but the decision to alter the format was made last year and today it was an aggregate stableford with drawn teams of high and lower handicaps.

There was a good turnout of 18 ladies (at least three were absent for 'back trouble' of various sorts) and there was some fantastic scoring.

The course was looking lovely and the greens are slowly improving. There is a real hope that this will continue (and more rapidly) after next week.

Liz and Fran on the 3rd green
In second place with 68 points were Fran and Liz who played some super golf.

Our winners were Lindsay and Lin who had a fabulous 72 points!

Well played ladies - super result!

PS...two of our ladies played out of their skin today, individually scoring 41 points each so extra congratulations to Liz and Lindsay!
Well played indeed!

The Presidents' Cups competition, due to played on Sunday, has been delayed until next Sunday because of the forecast of dreadful weather.

Club Championship

Six ladies were able to play in the Club Championships today and the weather was glorious!

Many thanks to Chris who came to Cape early to get the greens cut ready for the competition - it was much appreciated!
The course was looking fabulous.

The winner of our Club Championship was Hilary with the lowest gross score of 178!
Well played Hils!

Our best Nett winner was Sue D with a nett 153!
Well played Sue!

Two happy ladies!

Well played each competitor for your staying power - you were a super-six today!

Baron Rosebowl at Point at Polzeath

Well played to the ladies who represented Cape at Polzeath - conditions were lovely.

The team competition was won by Perranporth and the individual pair with the lowest score were from Bude; Fiona and I were 6th out of the 60 pairs.

Cape came in about 13th place in the field of 20 clubs.

It was an extremely long day, most of us seeing the sun set before we got home but it was an enjoyable day.

Land's End Open

Five ladies entered this competition, especial well done to Hilary, Lyn and Sue D who had played the 36 holes yesterday.

The weather stayed largely good for us and other than one shower we played in decent sunshine though a strengthening breeze.

Congratulations to Hilary for winning again and to Lindsay who was in second place. Well played - here are the results.

Dee and Ray's Trophy

Dee and Ray's Trophy

The forecast for today was heavy showers and just before we started there was a huge downpour, including hail, which made us wary of what might be in store...but... the day turned into blue sky and sunshine!
There were six lovely teams of ladies playing this scramble and what a lot of fun we had!

There were forty-five pars and a 3 birdies. Lyn, Sarah and Pam birdied the 6th; Sue D, Ann and Liz birdied the 12th and Judy, Claire and Lynn had a two on the 13th!

Well played everyone.

It was lovely to have Di back among us and for Poppy to award the trophy and buy all our ladies a drink! Thank you Poppy!

The results were really close with only 5 shots between all the teams!

In second place with 70.75 were the reprobates below! At least they look colourful!

The winning team came in with 68.75! Well played Pam, Sarah and Lyn!

Lyn thanked Poppy for her generosity and said how good it is to have Di back. Apparently Pam was a putter 'extraordinaire' and Sarah had magnificent iron play slugging the ball miles... well played team!

Monday sees 6 ladies head off to Point at Polzeath for the Baron Rosebowl followed by the Club Championship next weekend.

Polglase 4 Medal

Polglase 4 Medal

Beautiful sunshine and a stiff breeze welcomed us at Cape today - 16 ladies competing in the medal round for Polglase 4.

The course is looking beautiful and as it dries out it is becoming fast and sometimes bumpy.

Sometimes we found ourselves playing from unexpected places!
For example... my drive from the 8th tee took a big bounce and sped across the 7th fairway and ended up on the 6th! It made the next shot a little challenging!

I was not alone with this experience - although sometimes it was helpful...the wind was a fresh easterly, pushing the ball miles sometimes, Judy drove the 14th green and I drove the 10th!

The pink head-cover has been passed on to Pam who played more lovely golf today and almost chipped in on the 4th! Well deserved - well done Pam.

Red flag in use
A huge well played to our winner today who was Antoinette with a wonderful Nett 72 and a handicap cut!
Well done Ann!

In second place with a Nett 75 was Liz (parring the 7th and the 9th!) and in third place was Sue D with a Nett 76 and five pars in her round.

In fourth place was Judy with a Nett 77 and fifth was Pam with Nett 78.

Well played everyone!

Here are the full results...

Thanks to Lyn and Fran for doing the cards and stepping in for Di with the announcements.

We had a collection for Annie J who is joining in with the Race for Life on Wednesday and £70 was collected which is wonderful.
