Saturday 29th January

Saturday 29th January

Fifteen fabulous ladies signed up to play on Saturday and even though the day dawned grey and damp with a chilly wind everyone came!

It was decided that we would limit the competition to 11 holes because of the conditions, a decision welcomed by everyone!

We were a little sheltered from the wind on most of the front nine and at one point even blue sky appeared...

...but it didn't last or spread and it came back in damp and drizzly!

We played a three-ball aggregate and the scores were amazingly close with only 6 points between first and last groups!

In second place with 47 points were Fran, Chris D and Liz; pipped by just one point to first place by Lyn, Sue D and me with 48!

It was good to be out and lovely to see so many playing and enjoying the chance to catch up with each other.

Thursday front 9

 Thursday 27th Jan

A lovely number of ladies had signed up to play today (fourteen of us in fact) but the weather wasn't so good and it came in drizzly and foggy. Captain Frieda called off the competition yesterday evening which most of us were glad of.. a couple of hardy souls braved the course though! Here's hoping for better conditions on Saturday!

Thursday Back 9 and Saturday 11 holes with AGM

 Back 9 Red or Blue

Thursday saw 10 ladies compete in a back 9 stableford using either the blue or red tees.

It was cloudy but we did get some sun - it does feel quite chill in the wind when it blows!

Our shadows are long - but we were grateful for the basically good weather!

The scores were as follows.. nothing to write home about but it's just good to be out playing.

Saturday

Saturday was a different matter with Hilary posting a fabulous score of 25 points on the 11 holes we played; then there were three ladies with 19 points so Hurrah! countback was needed! Frieda came second, myself third and Pam in fourth!

Well done everyone - it was very dull and overcast but once again hardly any wind for which we are very grateful!

After the 11 holes we had our AGM - it was lovely to see as many folk as were able to make it.

The business of the year was formally attested to and we installed Frieda as our new Captain.

Thank you Sarah for keeping us going through the last two years - you can take a well deserved break now!

Still and Sunny

Still and Sunny

What a change to the weather!

The storms, wind and rain of the last few weeks was replaced with exactly what we wanted!
It was still and sunny and dry!
It was very heavy underfoot and buggies are still banned but it was so good to be able to get out on the course.

Several ladies took advantage of the weather and got in rounds whenever they could.
Thursday saw 11 of us take to the course to play the front nine adding our scores together and discovering the winning pair were Jenny and Marion! Well played both!
It has to be said that a lot of us have been reluctant to play recently with all the awful weather; it takes an effort of will to pack the golf stuff in the car and head out to Cape... but we were certainly rewarded well with the renewal of our fun and friendship.

Saturday was an 18 holes stableford and we had an entry of 12 for the competition plus four others came and played 9. Sixteen of us out on the course and Lindsay and Di were awaiting us to do the cards. It's good to see many out on the course,

Jayne and Sam playing on to the 7th green.

Conditions on Saturday were similar to earlier in the week though the wind did pick up a little towards the end.

Our winner was Sam with 6 pars and a birdie on the 10th scores a fabulous 37 points (and a handicap cut overnight)

Hilary was second with 33 points (4 pars and a birdie on 12),Frieda was third with 29 and Ros just one behind on 28.

All of us except Sam had NRs on the card - we rustled up 45 between us all - finding the first hole the most difficult and the 10th the easiest!

Well played all, it's good to knock off some of the rust...let's keep fingers crossed for more calm weather so we can play a bit more!

A wet and windy month!

December 2021

Firstly, apologies for the lack of posts since the end of November...it is now the 7th January 2022 and I'm only now getting round to writing this catch up. The main reason is that there was very little golf and then Christmas and family visits...and the resurgence of Covid.
Anyway, to go back to December... as I look at my calendar the word Cancelled is repeated numerous times. Both Thursdays and Saturdays were either wet or incredibly windy - or both and even occasionally cold.
It meant that we cancelled the competitions or only a handful of stoic ladies came!

The only formal competition that ladies took part in since 20th November was the Jack Arnold Scramble which 4 ladies entered.
There was a fierce wind and it felt like 36 holes not 18! I for one took days to recover!
You can see from the pictures that it was dry...

but the wind was so strong.

The winners were these reprobates, David, Ian and Alan.

We may not have played much golf but we did get together for our Christmas lunch despite not playing the 11 holes first!
The food was fabulous (thanks to the chef and kitchen staff) and we had lots of fun!
The masks came out  again - but not Covid ones!

We held a raffle too which helped our charity fundraising to reach £2000 which is fabulous.

Since then some ladies have played an occasional round but the dawn of 2022 did not bring better weather and our first Thursday was cancelled again!

That brings us up to date - it has been a difficult year for us individually but also as a section our playing numbers are right down. This is largely due to the concerns Covid has brought to us all but also the the really unpleasant-for-golf weather.
However - we did have fun when we could and we all look forward to a better 2022!
