For Annie

Annie

On Tuesday evening we had a get together of golfers to celebrate Anne's life.

There were displays of photos and memorabilia, including quilts that Anne had made and a collection of her golfing ball markers.

We were so pleased to see that many took ball markers or a quilt to either use themselves or pass on to friends who couldn't attend.
Anne would have been delighted.

Mike and Val Fraser brought a wonderful poem for Anne - (they used to exchange poems at Christmas-time) and it was the centre of the display above.
Here it is.

THINKING OF ANNE – THE BIG SMILE

A love of English – her bestest friend

Carrying a smile right to the end

The joy of indulging in rhyming word play

Poems to and fro – both winners they say

A lady of many talents – golfing reigning supreme

With everything just right – a contented gleam

Then joining the chatterbox ladies – to the wine a-canter

And, in the best of possible taste, cheeky banter

A special memento – a crafted clock

Presented as Captain – still going “tick tock”

When it came to the dance she was up on the floor

Limbs a swinging and smiles galore

In Papua New Guinea a teaching career

Then to Cape as a librarian sincere

Out of hours her thespian skills shone

With St Peter’s Players – inhibitions gone

The church at Morvah a long held passion

Dedicated as warden although congregation on ration

Fighting to keep the building intact

Fund raising activites part of the act

If you came to the apartment, one thing stood out

Arts & crafts was what it was all about

A style, easy to recognise, that of Mike Praed

On every wall his pictures displayed

Life wasn’t easy, many traumas to contend

The loss of son, Andrew, how do you comprehend?

Then Tony, our Welsh wit, died with a broken heart

Many less strong would have fallen apart

A sad loss to us all – I can see that smile

Joining Sonia & Geoff, completing her last mile

Her memories now caught on the honours board

Trophies won and given, her golfing reward

Thank you for sharing this Val and Mike.

We also shared food and a drink and there was much exchange of happy memories of Anne's adventures in life!

We also had a short video of Anne to the music of Ludovico Einaudi who was a favourite composer of Anne's over recent years.

We had a short video of pictures of Anne and some of her favourite places and things.

The video itself is too big to post on here so below are many of the pictures we used on the display or on the video in our Farewell to Annie evening.

"I won't come first - but I promise I'll finish!"

'Anne always believed in playing the conditions as well as the course - Just hit it straight!'

A Celtic Blessing.

May the road always rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm on your face. The rain fall soft on your fields; And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Bob Lynne Trophy

Bob Lynne Trophy

What a beautiful day it was today - perfect conditions for golf.

We had had to cancel the Back 9 competition on Thursday (again!) because of fog, but today was fabulous.

Twenty ladies entered this Better-ball trophy competition off full handicap

and there were some fantastic scores made!

This pic is for Lyn!

In third place with 47 points were Bev and Chris L.

What a fabulous score!

In second place with a score of 50 points were Sarah and LIz! Amazing scoring!

Just pipping Sarah and Liz to first place were Lyn and Sue S with an equally fabulous 50 points, winning on the back 6 holes.

All the scores were good with only 9 points between everyone!

Many, many thanks to Lynne for presenting the trophy and giving lovely prizes - this is such a fun competition with everyone enjoying being out on the course.
