More challenges!

The weather on Thursday  (27th October)was a bit breezy and damp but several ladies played including two who put in cards for handicap.

Tied in third place were Angie and Chris L; in second was Chris D with 18 points and our winner was  Ros with 19 points!

Well done everyone who played.. our weather is becoming a bit more challenging ...but it is so mild still!

Saturday (29th October) was once again very windy with gusts of 42mph so  the competition was postponed again.

Holman Open

The Holman Open was held on the 30th but that was impacted by thunder and lightning and heavy rain... but two of our ladies did play.

Mark George the winner seemed to be playing a different course to everyone else... scoring 40 points while most of the rest were in the mid 20s to low 30s!

A real challenge of a day!

Ladies v Seniors and Charity Cup

Ladies v Seniors

Thursday 20th October... This year it was the Seniors who organised this competition in terms of the refreshments but the ladies decided on the format which was an aggregate competition.

There were 18 ladies who entered and similar number of men!

The seniors were winners this time with a margin of about 15 points...the actual details remain elusive and the results difficult to track down!

Hopefully it was a fun competition! Anyone with any juicy details please let me know!!!!

Lady Captain's Charity Cup

This followed on on the 22nd and was a three ball with two scores to count competition.

The weather was a bit breezy but ok... fifteen ladies braved the weather!

In third with 58 points were Frieda, Lyn and Angie.

In second with 64 were Hilary, Fran and Ros and this lovely bunch below ran out winners with 70 points!

Well played ladies!

Many thanks again to Di for doing the cards!

County Play Off Finals

 League Play Off Finals

Sunday saw the team head off to Merlin at crack of dawn (literally!) to play in this  Competition.

The format this year was an Individual stableford, with the scores aggregated for each team.

We played in handicap order like we do in our official matches, and we played with players from St Mellion (Division 2 winners) and China Fleet (Division 4 winners) unfortunately Looe, who were winners of Division 3 did not send a team which was disappointing.

It was breezy again but we stayed dry!

China Fleet had 190 points

St Mellion had 206 points...

and guess who won?!

With 226 points...Cape!

Well played everyone!

Huge thanks to Sue for all her work organizing the matches for us...brilliant job!

Next year the Divisions look like this...

Div 1   Bude, Cape,  Falmouth, Perranporth and St Mellion

Div 2 Carlyon Bay, Launceston,  Looe, Newquay and St Enodoc

Div 3 China Fleet, Mullion, Tehidy, The Point and West Cornwall

Div 4 Lanhydrock, Porthpean, St Austell, Trevose and Truro

Well done everyone who has played in the matches this year and/or offered to play or stand in at the last minute. (Lack of buggy availability scuppered Di's hopes of playing for us at Launceston😡)

Antoinette, Claire, Fiona, Fran, Frieda, Hilary, Jayne, Lindsay, Lyn,Ros, Ruth, Sam and League Captain Sue

Treverven Trophy

Thursday 13th...the official competition was cancelled due to the wild weather forecast...but in the end the rain went up the channel and it turned into quite a nice day with a few ladies playing a social round.

Treverven Trophy

Saturday dawned bright and sunny but with a strong wind! There were 8 teams of three entered in this Mixed competition and the scores for all but the first three teams were just two shots apart!

The competition is a California Scramble taking four drives from each player.

It was a tiring round battling the wind but there were 12 birdies and Ros,Brian and Geoff had a two on the 13th!

Rainbow out at sea.

In third place with 68 points were the team of Ros Brian and Geoff;

second place was won by Lyn, Angie and Chris A with 67 points

and the winners had a fabulous 65 points... Sue D, Pam and Terry P!

There was a good turn out for the Trophy Competitions today with 17 ladies playing.

Conditions were absolutely perfect; sunshine, blue sky, only a breath of wind and receptive fairways and greens!

Admiration Cup

Nine ladies were entered in this competition and a lot of fun was had... not least by Chris D who eagled the 12th hole! A two for 5 points!!!

In third place with a lovely front 9 was Angie with 33 points.

In second was Ros with a very steady round, scoring 34 points.

In first was Eagle Chris with 38 points!

Well played Chris

Knockouts!

Knockouts!

Pairs

Tuesday was the day of the Ladies Pairs knockout final between Fran and Hils and Lyn and Sue.

This was such a close fought contest... going to the final hole!

Hils and Fran were ahead for most of the round but Lyn and Sue fought back and took the lead into the 17th.

Fran and Hils won that hole so back to all square with the final hole to play... there had been some terrific putting all the way round and Lyn was faced with a difficult, long putt on the 18th to take the match to extra holes but the putt just missed.

Hard luck to Lyn and Sue and many congratulations to Fran and Hils - a great win, particularly when they were giving 11 shots!

Winners!

Singles Knockout Final

A second amazing battle took place on Sunday between Frieda and Lyn - the singles final, with just one shot being given this time!

It had been due to take place on Friday but squally wind and rain put paid to that and it was moved to the Sunday because the Presidents' Cups had been postponed due to a Covid outbreak among the seniors who had gone to France.

It was (unfortunately) very windy again but at least there was no rain!

What a close match this was, the lead changed over and over again - at least 10 times! And the match could have gone either way!

Once more we reached the 18th green with Lyn needing a putt to take the match to extra holes...and this time it went down!

A super putt...and on we went to number one again!

Both Frieda and Lyn were on the green for four, Frieda to putt first - a good 6' uphill putt, it went just past the hole and Lyn gave the tap in...so Frieda down for 6 and Lyn had about a 5' putt to win the hole... and she did - down it went!!

It was a great battle all the way round!

Well done both and congratulations to Lyn on the win!

Great Match!

Staddon Heights

Staddon Heights Open

A group of our lovely ladies went to play in the Staddon Heights Open on Monday 3rd. Hils had arranged an amazing deal at Premier Inn for overnight stay so 9 ladies were able to make the most of this chance.

From all accounts it was a fabulous time - and a super course.

Here are some of the pictures from what looks like an amazing away trip!

What a fabulous bunch!

Look at this course!

Looks like masses of fun was had by all... same again next year maybe?

Well done organisers!

Carmen Payne

Carmen Payne

Thursday morning's golf was cancelled again because of the weather but there was good turnout for the Carmen Payne Stableford on Saturday 1st October.

Winter Rules, pick and place or preferred lies...whatever you call them they're back in play again now which is a relief.

Sixteen ladies were available to play and one person in particular had a lovely score!

It doesn't look too bad in the picture does it but just before this we were being soaked in a downpour!

In fact waterproofs were on and off throughout the round...but we finished in sunshine with some in tee shirts!

There was a wedding at the club and we couldn't access the laptop to do the scores so Lyn collected the cards to drop them off at Di's and anyone finishing later could send a photo to Di.

Di was actually up to her eyes in Tennis stuff so huge thanks to her for doing the scores in the evening.

Countback was needed to separate Ros and me for third place...both having 32 points.

Lyn was in second with 33 and our Trophy winner was Fi with a super 38 points!

Well played Fi!!
