Back 9 Thursday/ Fun Matchplay

Last Saturday was the Rugby World Cup semi finals and the weather was absolutely atrocious so several of us watched the match at the club and then didn't play afterwards!

Back 9 Thursday

Twelve lovely ladies played today despite the misty murky morning. It was clearer at Cape than it was elsewhere until the very end when the fog drew in.

Conditions weren't easy - the ground was heavy and slow but it was good to be out in the fresh air.

Five ladies came in with 14 points which seemed quite creditable in the conditions, but three more ladies were not fazed at all.

Chris L was third with a lovely 16 points; Sue D was second with a super 18 points but she was pipped by Sarah who scored a fabulous 18 points!

Well played you three!

Tomorrow night is the French Gourmet Night at Cape and Saturday is the Final of the Rugby World Cup so several of us are going to watch the match at the club!

Weather forecast is not looking good for Saturday (with 65 mph winds) so the Fun Matchplay Competition is cancelled.
If the weather improves folk are welcome to go out and play if they are so inclined but there will be no formal competition.

Front 9

Front 9 Thursday
Ten lovely ladies came to play today, the rest of the Awesome Crew were either working, busy with family or visiting exotic places!
We had beautiful weather and the course is looking good.
The scores were close with hardly anything to choose between everyone.
Just pipping Lindsay to third place was Lyn with 14 points. Sue D was second with 15 points and our winner was our vice captain Sarah with 16points.
Well done everyone.
Many of us took advantage of Jody's fresh scone making which we really enjoyed!
Saturday... Breakfast is available... And after the England New Zealand match we have our Brison Babes v Tregeseal Tramps!
Here's the draw... It'll be a Greensome matchplay... over 9holes!

Also... Coming up next week is a quiz...

Saturday Stableford

Stableford

Eleven ladies were able to play in the competition today - several of our number are away or were otherwise engaged.

Conditions were pretty good with sunshine and a gentle breeze but that didn't make play easy. The course is quite heavy and the scores meant it was a reductions only competition.

The first three places were all decided on countback!
Well played Lindsay, Sue D and Sarah who all posted this score...and who were first second and third in that order!

Well played all.

While this was being played... England were thrashing Australia ...and New Zealand thrashing Ireland to set up the Rugby World Cup semi final next Saturday.

It will be played at 9am England v New Zealand... and because of this we have decided to delay and shorten our fun Matchplay!

So come and watch the match at Cape... then play in our fun Matchplay competition at 11am between the Tregeseal Tramps and the Brison Babes!

Charity Coffee Morning

Charity Coffee Morning

Thursday October 17th
Today was the Ladies Charity Coffee Morning and we had 29 ladies visiting us from 8 other clubs - Tehidy, Falmouth, Mullion, Praa Sands, West Cornwall, Killiow, Point and Trevose were all represented!

The picture below sums up the weather! Bright sunshine - clouds... rain combined with a strong and  gusty wind!

The Gaiety girls led by Chris had done a super job setting up stalls around the function room selling a wide array of things.

Checking out the clothes and  golf table.
A glorious selection of jewellery
The lovely craft stall
Special secret auction table

Di, Lyn and Frieda did a lovely job sourcing and decorating prizes.

Lyn also prepared all the cards for everyone - including handicaps where known and adjusted to 90%! Thanks Lyn!

Kenny was our starter keeping everyone to time and making last minute adjustments when they proved necessary!

Brian with his trusty umbrella was our spotter on the 4th  and when we were all through there he continued the job with Kenny on the 12th!
Many thanks!

We had a good amount of sunshine but the storm clouds gradually built  - some went up the channel and others caught us out.

One minute like this....

and not long later quite different!

Two of the later starting groups came in after 11 holes after being soaked but the remainder completed the course.

There were prizes for the first four places, with the added extra of a prize for the best visitors and best 'duo-club' score.

Our best 'duo-club' team were Antoinette with Jean from Tehidy  with a score of 32 points - very consistent play with 16 points on each 9.

The best visiting team were Mo and Donna from Falmouth with 33 points again with very consistent scoring.  (Donna hadn't played Cape before so came with an eye on playing the course ready for our league match next year!)
In overall 4th place (on countback of course) were Kathy Wells and Sally Ingle also from Falmouth with a score of 35 points

In third place (on countback again) were Helen Carson and Angie Darnell from Mullion with a score of 36 points.

They were just pipped to second place by Frieda and Judy who also scored 36 points.

In first place with a shocking 43 points (which included 5 birdies of which one was a two on the 13th) were Fran and myself!

We were astounded!

A few extra thanks... to Lindsay, Sarah and Lyn  for doing the results; to Pam for the lovely flower arrangements; to Leanne for coming back specially to be here and to all the Cape staff for looking after us so well in both preparation for the day and for the day itself. The sandwiches and cakes (and chocolate-orange torte!) were so welcome!

To Chris and all the gaiety girls for their work in collecting items for the stalls and arranging it all, and to Fran for looking after all the money

Finally a few bonus pictures...

Cheers ladies!

Approximately £500 was raised for the charities! Well done everyone.

Lady Captain's Charity Cup

Charity Cup

A grey and overcast day awaited us at Cape for the Lady Captain's Charity Cup.
The format for this competition is the Captain's Choice and this year Di chose a Waltz for us to enjoy.

We had six teams playing today ( the teams were drawn) and the results were very close!
There were only two points between the first and fourth places with Countback needed to separate first and second.

It was damp out there and the fairways and greens were quite heavy... in places there were even wonderful arrays of mushrooms!  (I have been known to address a mushroom... mistakenly thinking it was my ball!!)

In fourth place with 67 points were Fran, Sarah and Marion; in third were Bev, Ros and Judy with 68!
In second place with 69 were Chris J, Lynne Mc and myself... just beaten on countback by Claire, Lindsay and Frieda!

Well played!

There were some great team holes... Claire, Lindsay and Frieda scored 9 points on the 9th hole with Frieda birdying it and Ann, Jayne and Jean had 8 points on the 12th!

Such a close competition -  and good fun!

Di was also able to present the Carallack Cup to Jayne - the winner of the Individual Knockout competition. Well played!

Thursday Front 9

Front 9

How can we be a third of the way through October already? Where does time go?

Eight Ladies were able to play today - several were away at Truro playing in their Coffee Morning...  happily the weather stayed dry for us. It was a bit breezy but generally it was good!

The Abbotswood Trophy has re-started so several of us put our monies (£2 each) into a separate envelope and posted it in to the Ladies Box to set the ball rolling again!

Jeannie came to do the draw for Saturday and sorted out the money for today.
In second place with great chipping and putting was Marion with 17 points...  I was in first place with 19 points; I have to say that watching Marion chip and putt so well spurred me on today! Thanks Marion!

October Medal

October Medal

An overcast grey day was waiting for us at Cape - with just a breath of wind - so good conditions for play.

Sixteen Ladies were able to compete - a nasty cold has laid some others low.

There really is only one thing to report today and that was a wonderful round by our winner!
Sue D only took 80 shots to complete the course - a nett 66 earning a handicap cut plus an exceptional scoring cut too.

Sue is now playing off 12!

Super well done - a fabulous round!

Below are the scores for the first 10 in the competition.

Thursday Back 9

Back 9

Ten intrepid ladies ventured forth into the approaching storm Lorenzo and played the back 9 (Ros and I just turned up for coffee!!)

With a blustery wind - but staying dry - the ladies returned some good scores with a smattering of pars and birdies.

The winner was Judy with a lovely score of 21! Well played!

Because we're Cape we had to have countback for second place with two ladies having 19 points apiece.

Angie just nudged ahead of Lyn on the last 6 holes - well played both!

Well done everyone for playing today 😃

Tonight is Japanese night at the club!
