Thursday 6th and Saturday 8th February

Thursday

Ten lovely ladies played the back 9 today and the weather was kind.

In third place was Sue S with 17 points which included pars on 12 and 14.
In second place was Lyn with 18 points who had pars on 10, 12 and 17 and in first place with a terrific 20 points was Chris J with pars on 10, 12 and 14.

Well played all. It was good to be out and also to see Lindsay and I walking and playing half a dozen holes too!

Saturday 8th Feb

We had sunshine and a strong breeze welcoming us on Saturday - with 12 ladies taking to the course. The forecast Storm Ciara was on its way but until the last four or five holes conditions were pretty good.

The wind did pick by the end and we were glad to have it at our back on the 18th!
The shortened 17th which is only 87 yard was straight into the wind and a driver was often needed to get it anywhere near!

In first place was Hils with 35 points. This included 9 pars - brilliant!
In second on countback was Fi with 33 points (including 7 pars) and in third was myself also with 33 (my claim to fame was parring the first four holes... but the shock was too much and I couldn't maintain it!)

Fran is to be awarded the pink headcover for getting a two on the 17th!! Absolutely brilliant!

Thursday 30 and Saturday 1st February Sunday 2nd

Thursday 30th January

Unfortunately there was thick fog at Cape which put paid to any golfing adventures. Some of us swam instead! It's certainly lovely to have that option on a day of miserable weather!

Saturday 1st February

The fog had cleared for Saturday and twelve ladies ventured forth to play a medal competition over 11 holes.

It was lovely to see some sunshine and get out on the course. All things considered the course is holding up pretty well despite the dreadful weather but it was heavy going and the birds are having a field day hunting for creepy crawlies especially on the fairways.
View from the 9th tee

In third place with a lovely 54.5 was Super Sue S; in second with 53.5 was Lovely Lyn and in first place, outplaying everyone, was our Lady Captain Stellar Sarah with a score of 48.5!

Well done everyone.

Sunday 2nd

Unfortunately there were only five ladies able to play in the re-scheduled New Captain's Trophy.

It was grey and overcast but so much better than last week!
It was a Texas scramble with a shotgun start and a maximum of 7 drives apiece.

Starling flock!
Like yesterday  there were a lot of birds pecking at the course...a  lot of gulls but also a great flock of starlings... let's hope it is leatherjackets they're after!

The winning team were Roger N, George H and Roy S with a score of 60.8.
In second were Roy McD, Andy L and Chris W with a score of 61.5 and in third were Martin U, John T and myself with a score of 62.2

Saturday 25th January

Saturday 25th Jan

Today we played a Greensome Stableford - the mixed handicap pairings had been drawn on Thursday and  eighteen ladies played.

Sue S and Claire went out first as a pair on their own... they came in an hour earlier than the rest of us who found the going heavy!
Angie and Hils even had matching bags...

...which made Chris feel a little left out :-(

We were well wrapped up and coats were off and on... and then it would rain!
And sometimes it poured!

We all returned weary and with wet stuff... most scores were in the twenties but some teams jelled.

In third with 37 points were Claire and Sue S; in second place were Fiona and Sarah with 38 points including birdies on the 4th and 12th.

In first place with 42 points were Chris L and myself with birdies on the 2nd and 12th and pars on four others! (So we made up for not having matching bags!!)

Well played everyone , it was tough going out there.

Thursday 23rd January

Thursday 23rd

Only eight ladies played today, the weather didn't seem very inviting but it was actually very pleasant out there. Several of us ended up taking off layers because we were warm!

Countback was needed to separate third and second; Lyn and Angie both had 16 points with Angie winning on countback!
In first place with a very creditable 18 points was Fran.
Well played.

The holes in the driveway were being tidied and filled by Mark, Chris and the team! hopefully it will be as smooth as... when we are next down!
It was good to see Jean (who prepared the draw for Saturday) and Di. Hopefully you'll both be out on the course soon.

Thursday 16th and Saturday 18th January 2020 and Presentation Night

Thursday 16th

Rain and strong winds put paid to golf today but some of took advantage of the pool and gym for a little fitness and wellbeing!

Saturday 18th January

Eighteen wonderful women wended their way round the course today playing a Stableford competition.
There was a breeze blowing but it was absolutely beautiful out there with glorious sunshine.

Our golf did not do the weather justice but considering how little we have played over the last few months I guess we shouldn't really be surprised.

Countback was needed to decide third and fourth places with Fran gaining 3rd and Lyn fourth using the last 9 holes. They both scored 28 points.

In second was New Captain Sarah with 29 points and our winner was Claire with 32!

There were no handicap adjustments.

January Medal

January Medal

Twelve lovely ladies played in the medal today - what a way to start the year!
We had sunshine and drizzly showers, a bit of a breeze and several glorious rainbows!

Thanks Bron for the picture!

Considering the weather over the last few months the course was surprisingly good. Considering how little we have played over the last few months some of the golf was surprisingly good too!

Well played Sarah, Claire and Jenny who all played within their buffer zones!

Sarah was third with a nett 77 (with pars on the 7th and the 9th)
Claire was second on countback with a nett 74 ( with a birdie on the 9th and pars on 2,4,6 and 12)
In first place, also with a nett 74 was Jenny who played steadily the whole round - well played Jenny!

The rest of us followed along behind  but it was great to be out on the course and playing again.

Thanks to Di and Lindsay for the card and eclectic marking!
Well played all... Presentation evening next Friday and the Ladies AGM is on Saturday followed by 11 holes.

New Year!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year all!

2020!

It doesn't seem long ago that 1984 loomed as an almost impossible future date!  Now it's 2020 - let's hope this year brings us peace, contentment and good health alongside lots of fun on the golf course.

The first Thursday morning for the ladies was rather grey, damp and very windy.
There were six stoic ladies who played. Two others (Chris and myself) just played two holes and found that to be enough!
Well done those who soldiered on and who generally commented it "wasn't as bad as all that..." but hedge backwards and dragging were also words bandied about!

In the end we had to use countback to separate first and second places (no change there then!) Angie was second with 15 points and she was just pipped to first place by Marion! Well played girls!

In fact, well done everyone who played. It was great to see Ros out playing; Lindsay who  came for a swim and Jean who came for coffee later.

Happy New Year!
