Presentation Evening

Presentation Evening

Friday April 1st saw a good turnout for a lovely presentation evening. The previous day saw our industrious ladies armed with silver polish and rags to give the trophies their yearly freshen up.

Sarah had unfortunately tested positive for Covid so Frieda stepped up to do the presentations.

A few of the trophies were not played for last year because of the Covid restrictions or extreme weather so the birdie/par and Birthday Trophy along with the Vets Vase, Eclectics and Wheeler Bowl were not awarded this time.

Polglase 2 Par

 Polglase 2 Par

There were twelve ladies with enough energy to play the second Polglase competition which is a par format. Basically you play against the course winning, halving or losing each hole.

It is a challenging format - well done to all who played.

Fran and Lyn both beat the course and Hilary halved! Well done too to Frieda and Fiona who were only one down at the end.

There were two birdies; Hilary had a three on the fourth hole and Claire had a two on the thirteenth!
Well played both.

Thursday morning had seen some ladies venture out in the cold and wind to play the back 9 in a different format, 10-12 off red, 13-15 off blue and 16-18 off the yellow tees.

Blue sea but cold and windy!

Fran chipped in on the 15th!

Well done those who played!

Away Days - Monday!

Monday

After various amounts of sleep we met at breakfast and prepared ourselves for the serious business for the trophy.

So today was an individual Stableford going out in groups of four. The weather had changed from yesterday and it was overcast, a little misty with the odd large drops of rain.

Again, many thanks to Sam for being our main photographer.

First group out on the second round.
Many ladies wore the pink jumpers  - looking smart - and it made us easy to spot wherever we were on the course!

Great to have Jeannie on the tee!

There were longest drive competitions today, on the 8th for the silver players and the 16th for Bronze players.

View from the fourth tee...it's a long way!

The longest drive for silver was won by Fi...

Fi on the 4th

Pam teeing off on 14!
And Fi!

Great team.

Sam on 14

Angie and Val

Hello!!!

The longest drive for bronze was won by Fran.

Beautiful backdrop to play golf against - the 16th fairway!

Getting ready for the 18th

We met at 6.20 (almost all of us!!!) and there were many prizes to be given!
Apologies if I miss anything...it was a busy evening!

Sarah had been unable to play but was rewarded today for having cared for (for months!) the sparkly pink head-cover that we all thought was lost! Definitely worth a bottle of wine... and watch out everyone... you may be winning it again for either a fabulous golf shot ...or a crazy one!

Also rewarded for all her support and safe-guarding work was Jeannie! Great to have you playing again!

The most consistent scorers (ie identical score for both rounds) were  Ros and Liz; and the most improved rounds (from Sunday to Monday) were Chris D, Val and yours truly.
There were two birdies, one by Sam on the 13th and a 'winning the pink head-cover shot' from Angie... chipping in for 3 gaining 6 points on the tricky second! Amazing!

The best front 9 was won by Sue S and the best back 9 by Sam.

The results of the main competition were as follows... Hilary 5th with 31 points (alongside Sue S and Lindsay who also had 31 points); 2nd, 3rd and 4th all had 32 points, Sue D, Frieda and Pam and our winner with an absolutely fabulous 39 points... Jayne!

Well played Jayne a fabulous score!

The prize-giving was followed by our evening meal, some tales from Chris D and a very interesting game of Call My Bluff!  We were all in stitches!
Thank you Sarah for organizing the Call My Bluff!

The pizza that Ros ordered was huge...

Big enough for two me-thinks!

And finally... the ladies trying to keep a straight face while reading out there definitions...

Thank you Frieda and Hilary for organizing our away days - what a fabulous time we had - we missed those who couldn't make it this year and look forward to a full complement next year.

PS... and the charity is £106 better off because of the 'fine' behaviour of us all!!

Away days - Sunday!

Dartmouth!

Wow!

We made it!

Huge thanks to Hilary for booking it over two year's ago...and to Frieda for all her work.

There are lots of pictures to share with you (thank you Sam) so strap in for the ride!

We arrived happily looking forward to our bacon/sausage/egg (delete as appropriate!) bap! How exciting it was to be away together at last.

Our numbers were down because of Covid infections and we missed you all - we toasted all our absent friends when we got together in the evening for our presentation.

Fortified by our refreshments off we set for our first round at Dartmouth.

This was a team competition, playing in fours except for the first team out (Hils, Antoinette and Frieda) who had a sleeping partner.

The weather was sunny with a little breeze but most of us were glad of our long trousers!

Needless to say we had refreshments on the way round...but were fined for doing so!

An assortment of pictures from the first round... we had nearest the pin for Silver players on the third... 138 yards over water!
This photo is from the second day but shows the challenge of the third!

The fourth fairway has a stream running along the left hand side - a very  challenging par 5!

4th Fairway

The fifth was the chance for the Bronze players to be nearest the pin...not over water this time but surrounded by water!

And some were not happy to see their ball take a swim and were determined to get them back!

Water is a feature of quite a few holes at Dartmouth including the 14th, 15th and 18th!

Lyn playing the 15th

When our rounds were finished It was warm enough to sit outside on the balcony and enjoy a glass of something... of the five groups who played one group lost 9 balls, two groups lost 8, one 6 and the other group only 3!!

We met up later for our results.

Toasting absent friends.

The scores for the teams ranged from 100 to 114 (three scores to count).
In third place with 104 were Hilary, Ann and Frieda with sleeping partner Sam.
In second place with 109 were Sue S (who birdied the par four second hole!) Sue D, Chris D and Pam.
In first place with 114 were Fi, Fran, Lyn and Sam!

Well played team!

Winning the nearest the pin on the third was Hilary, and on the 5th was Lindsay.
Well played both!

Individually there were some lovely scores, Sue S had 38 points, Fran 36 and Angie 35!

Great fun today - well done everyone - we enjoyed a lovely meal later and Chris D entertained us with some lovely stories!

Lots of laughter and smiles were shared as we played - how good it was to back on tour!

Frieda also collected fines for extravagant language...drinking...or basically anything.

Most ladies decided to pay up front and then have the freedom to have fun!!!
