Sydney Grose Trophy

Sydney Grose Star Cup

Saturday 18th July saw the resumption of Competitive Golf for the ladies at Cape and what a lovely turnout we had!

Seventeen ladies signed in and put money in the blue box or gave Fran an envelope... it seemed to work fine. Thanks Fran!

It was damp and drizzly and to be honest a bit miserable at the start, but the weather brightened and the misty drizzle eventually cleared away and we ended up with better weather.
Chris J had a storming round with 41 points - and a handicap cut - well played Chris! And Jayne came second with 39!
Here are the top 10 scores - all very close after those top two scores.

It was lovely to be back and feeling part of a whole again - if that makes sense?
We have been playing individually but for our rounds to be part of a whole competition today felt good. I guess you understand what I mean.

Sunday provided a beautiful day...let's order some more days like that!

Tuesday Evening Golf

This has been going for a few weeks now with John and Frieda organising it. Last week was Bingo Bango Bongo (won by Liz) and this week was a scramble ... won by Liz(again! I'm seeing a pattern), Judy and Ruth.
Some stayed for a socially distanced drink afterwards, outside in the evening sunshine on the patio which seemed to work well.
Thanks everyone - it's good to be back.

Return

Return to Golf

Wednesday 13th May was the day we were allowed back on the course! Several ladies took advantage of the opportunity, playing as much as possible!

There was a keen wind blowing but both days were full of sunshine and a beautiful blue sea.

The 'boys' have been working hard on the course and today were adding new sand to more of the bunkers - brilliant!

New sand!
The dry course meant that the ball was running and several times we overshot to the green. We have suddenly gone from a damp heavy course to one where the ball is running freely!

The bluebells on the 4th are beautiful!

But this wall is looking a bit the worse for the passing of time.

And finally... Leanne and Andy have invested in a pizza oven... and the pizza is brilliant! Quick service too as we ordered it when we came off the 18th; went and put our clubs away etc and it was ready for us when we got back to reception!

Very tasty!

Covid 19

Covid 19

The coronavirus outbreak which has spread worldwide has impacted every walk of life.
We need to take care of ourselves and each other and to that end all the ladies competitions have been cancelled until further notice.

This applies to all competitions including league and friendly matches and very sadly the Dartmouth trip.

We are already looking out for each other - email, text, whatsapp and phonecalls are all valuable tools to enable this, especially when we are spending so much time away from each other.

Don't be shy about contacting anyone at any time if you need assistance or a catch up.

At the moment we are still able to play golf albeit taking great care to minimise contact - playing alone or alongside a friend -  it's good to get some fresh air from time to time. I know we want to support Leanne and Andy however we can - what a nightmare this is for them.

But we will get through this,  One and All.

Since writing this England golf have now closed all golf courses so Cape is closed until the situation improves.

League match v Bude

League Match v Bude

Sunday saw us play our first league match which was against Bude at home. The weather turned out very kind in the end although there was a brief heavy shower late on.

There had been a lot of rain overnight and the course was squishy in places so we agreed to take the bunkers out of play because of standing water in several of them.

Many thanks  to our team, Sue, Claire, Lyn, Fran, Sarah and Frieda. We lost 4-3 but put up a good fight with matches going to the 17th and 18th.

Our next match is against Newquay away (virus permitting) - please sign up if you'd like to play.

Stableford

Stableford

Saturday 14th March saw 16 wonderful women take on a Stableford. The course is showing signs of the unkind weather we've had over the last few months but all things considered it was pretty good.
The weather was overcast but not too windy and compared with what we've had it was perfect!
Sue and Lyn on 13
Scoring was not easy though with our winner, Captain Sarah, coming in with 33 points.
Frieda was second with 32 and Chris L third with 31.
There were then a whole bunch of ladies in the 20s with Antoinette in fourth place with 29.
There were no handicap adjustments.

Well done everyone. Sue D was awarded the pink head cover for an amazing putt from off the green on 13 for a two!

Medal, Polglase 1 and Millennium

Polglase 1

Saturday saw us playing the first round of the Polglase Trophy competition, a medal combined with the Millennium competition too.
The sun shone and there was a fresh breeze with twelve lovely ladies taking part and most of us finding it a bit of a challenge!

The winning score was a nett 75 achieved by Bev, closely followed by Fran who had a nett 76!
These were great scores...(Fran had a two on the 13th!). Following on a long way behind were the rest of us! There were 4 ladies sharing the next score which was a nett 84 with Jayne winning on countback from Antoinette to third place!

Well done everyone!
It was great to have Lindsay back playing her first 18 holes since her hip op... and it was lovely to see Ros who came up to play 9 holes.
ps The Pink headcover was presented to Sarah for her experience last Thursday... when playing the first hole... she struggled to find her ball... eventually it was spotted... completely covered in poo 😱
After sorting out this problem... Sarah hit her shot which  then hit the wall...  and flew back over her head into the bunker behind her!! It was one of those days!
Oh... And the Millennium part of the comp was won by yours truly!!
