Storm Kathleen

Storm Kathleen

Saturday's golf (6th April) was cancelled because of the gale force winds. It was a mostly sunny day but golf would have been a lottery!

Sunday's comps were also called off except for the Men's Captain's Drive-in, Rob Tredinnick was raising funds for charity.

Memories came of Frieda's drive in ...but this was a lot quieter!!

Reassuringly Rob's ball didn't even reach the pond!

Needless to say the wind was fierce but £160 was raised for charity despite the challenges!

Thursday 4th April

 Thursday 4th April

The forecast for the weekend is gale force winds so a few of us turned up to play today despite the dull weather!

Frieda and Lindsay

We delayed starting cos of rain but eventually we went out in two groups of three and instead of the back nine we played the front!

Sue D and Liz

It was windy and the ground was pretty wet but it was really good to be out.

Sue and Liz on the 3rd

By the time we reached the fourth a watery sun was visible and there were even some patches of blue!

Liz lining up a putt on the 5th temporary green

For a while it was looking good and some even took a layer off...but unfortunately as the first group finished the 8th and the second group completed the 7th the rain returned.

We hastily retreated but we were all soaked...Frieda was generous enough to give a dry lady a big hug while still in her dripping coat...of such things  are friendships built!!

We all stopped for coffee, joined by Di and we had a good laugh together.

In terms of golf, Lindsay, Sue D and I were also rans today...the other three all scored 12 points!

So we had to do some countback... which resulted in Angie being third...Frieda second and our winner was Liz!

Well done everyone who played!

Eggsravaganza

Thursday's golf this week didn't happen yet again because of gales and rain!

Eggstravaganza

Saturday 30th March

There were ten intrepid ladies who played the Eggstravaganza today... it was blustery weather with heavy showers but we survived and the sea colours were amazing!

Nearly all of us found it hard work and were very tired at the end but there were some super scores!

Prizes for all!

The winning score was Sarah's 21 points!! An amazing score in that blustery weather!

In second was Hilary with 19 points and in third Sue D with 17 points; the rest of us followed on behind!

Well done everyone, surely the weather must get better soon?!

Happy Easter One and All!

Remembering Pam

Pam

We received sad news on February 16th this year as dear Pam died after a fairly short illness.

It seemed appropriate to share some photos of her that are mostly new to the blog, many thanks to Chris D, Ros and Jayne for supplying the new pictures.

This one will have been on the blog but she was so proud of having won the trophy it couldn't be missed.

She loved playing didn't she...and was a very tough opponent!!

Some of the following photos you will recognize from trips that were taken... if you know any more details then just let me know and I can add them.

A Christmas snap... possibly 2013?

Some family photos...

Grandson Joe photobombing Pam and Teresa.

Another beautiful image of Pam and her daughter

Pam and her twin sister

Pam always provided us with beautiful flower arrangements when we had special events...a real talent.

Pam and Mark who cared for her wonderfully at the end.

We all will have our special memories of time spent with Pam - for me it was watching her tee off on the 12th in a mixed foursome competition when she played with George.

George gave her some instructions... "Hit the ball back and across to the men's 14th tee Pam - you can do it". I stood and watched...and she did exactly what George had requested!! She played some lovely golf!

She loved her trips away; holidays; shopping and a glass of something...and the coffee always needed a drop of Kahlua!

Farewell Pam, you are sorely missed.

AGM

 Saturday 23rd March

AGM

Today was our AGM and theoretically 11 holes of golf. The AGM was brief and to the point (well done guys!); we gave huge thanks to Di and the committee for all their work last year... and afterwards we presented the trophies.

Rather than a host of individual trophy photos we shared a joint picture!

Chris L had arranged a sale of clothes which raised a lovely £80.25 for Di's charity and afterwards we sat round for coffee... it was like old times!

So lovely to have so many of us together.

The weather was not being kind with gale force winds and heavy downpours but Carolyn and I went out for a few holes... we started terribly and scuttled back for shelter before completing the first hole...but we ventured out again and managed to play the first three holes and the 11th!

It was extremely blustery and hard to keep your balance; it was good to have some fresh air but those four holes were plenty! We were glad to stop and have a cup of tea!

We don't have a Captain for this year but I am sure we will all help in every way we can to make 2024 a good one for Cape.

Thursday 21st March

 Thursday 21st March

We woke to sunshine! It was a shock! Unfortunately it didn't last...by the time we got on the course it had clouded over but there was very little and we were pleased to be out there playing.

The greenkeepers have had a nightmare because of the weather over the last few months and the Spring work on the greens has had to be delayed. It means that at the moment there are several temporary greens, the one above being one of them - the 14th.

It was good to be out and playing and nine of us had signed up and others joined us at the end to clean the trophies for Saturday (great job you guys)!

Many thanks to Di and Lindsay for doing the cards; in first place was Chris L with 15 points, followed by yours truly with 14 points and Antoinette in third with 13 points.

Well done all, it was lovely to see everyone and to be joined by Carolyn who is joining our special group of ladies - welcome Carolyn.

Saturday is the AGM and 11 holes if weather is kind.

Congratulations to Hils and Sue D for their great scores at Newquay on Sunday in the Headland Cup.

Hilary was second overall with a score of 34 points and Sue third with 32 (on countback!)

Well done both - great results!
