Away days - Sunday!

Dartmouth!

Wow!

We made it!

Huge thanks to Hilary for booking it over two year's ago...and to Frieda for all her work.

There are lots of pictures to share with you (thank you Sam) so strap in for the ride!

We arrived happily looking forward to our bacon/sausage/egg (delete as appropriate!) bap! How exciting it was to be away together at last.

Our numbers were down because of Covid infections and we missed you all - we toasted all our absent friends when we got together in the evening for our presentation.

Fortified by our refreshments off we set for our first round at Dartmouth.

This was a team competition, playing in fours except for the first team out (Hils, Antoinette and Frieda) who had a sleeping partner.

The weather was sunny with a little breeze but most of us were glad of our long trousers!

Needless to say we had refreshments on the way round...but were fined for doing so!

An assortment of pictures from the first round... we had nearest the pin for Silver players on the third... 138 yards over water!
This photo is from the second day but shows the challenge of the third!

The fourth fairway has a stream running along the left hand side - a very  challenging par 5!

4th Fairway

The fifth was the chance for the Bronze players to be nearest the pin...not over water this time but surrounded by water!

And some were not happy to see their ball take a swim and were determined to get them back!

Water is a feature of quite a few holes at Dartmouth including the 14th, 15th and 18th!

Lyn playing the 15th

When our rounds were finished It was warm enough to sit outside on the balcony and enjoy a glass of something... of the five groups who played one group lost 9 balls, two groups lost 8, one 6 and the other group only 3!!

We met up later for our results.

Toasting absent friends.

The scores for the teams ranged from 100 to 114 (three scores to count).
In third place with 104 were Hilary, Ann and Frieda with sleeping partner Sam.
In second place with 109 were Sue S (who birdied the par four second hole!) Sue D, Chris D and Pam.
In first place with 114 were Fi, Fran, Lyn and Sam!

Well played team!

Winning the nearest the pin on the third was Hilary, and on the 5th was Lindsay.
Well played both!

Individually there were some lovely scores, Sue S had 38 points, Fran 36 and Angie 35!

Great fun today - well done everyone - we enjoyed a lovely meal later and Chris D entertained us with some lovely stories!

Lots of laughter and smiles were shared as we played - how good it was to back on tour!

Frieda also collected fines for extravagant language...drinking...or basically anything.

Most ladies decided to pay up front and then have the freedom to have fun!!!

Friday 25th March

 League v Falmouth

Cape played their first away match today at Falmouth. We enjoyed the new clubhouse which has wonderful views over the bay and views over what will eventually be the 18th green.

The greens had been hollow-tined and sanded and were running quite fast.

Conditions were perfect with blue sky and sunshine and a breeze but not too strong a one.

The matches were close as usual - with Cape winning three of the games but losing four!

Result 4-3 to Falmouth

We received a very friendly welcome and the matches were played in great spirit.

Well played all the team - Sue D, Fran, Fi, Frieda, Jayne, Lindsay and myself - it was a hard fought and very close contest!

Perfect Day

Perfect Day

We have had so much challenging weather of late today was a real treat!

Blue sky; blue sea; warm sunshine; only a breath of wind and tee shirts with cut-offs for some!
It really was fabulous!

There were 14 ladies competing and some super scores were recorded.

The first five ladies all had 20 points or more and of course we had to use countback!

Judy just pipped Lyn to fourth place with 20 points each; Fran pipped Frieda to second place on countback again (both with 22) and in first place was Pam with 23 points - her new clubs are a dream!

Trevelyan Scramble

 Trevelyan Scramble

There was a good turnout for the Trevelyan scramble on Sunday 20th March.

More ladies had hoped to play but Covid had taken its toll.

It was a shotgun start, windy and rather grey but the sun shone later.
The wind conditions made it challenging.
Ten teams of four and one team of three played and there were some good scores recorded.

In third place was the team of three with Ros, Rob T and Andy C with a score of 64.

In second was a team of four men - John T, Terry P, Chris A and Adam A - with a score of 62.4.

In first place, with an outrageous score of 60.7 were Lindsay, Geoff, Dale P and Dan F!

Well played team - great job!

Twelve lovely ladies played a back 9 qualifier today.

The weather was glorious and it was lovely to be out.

League Match

League v Bude

Sunday 13th March saw a team from Bude come to Cape for our first league match in 2years!

We had played them just before the very first Covid restrictions in March 2020 and how wonderful it was to be back playing with a large degree of normality.

The gales of Saturday (our competition was cancelled again) had dropped and we had some sunshine along with a good breeze.

Our team of Hilary, Claire, Lyn, Fran, Antoinette, Lindsay and myself were faced with a lovely group of Bude ladies - five of them with handicaps lower than 14!

Nearly all of us received shots - and several of us had more than a handful - but we needed every one.

One game finished on the 16th - three games ended on the 17th and  three on the 18th - proof that the handicap system seems to work!

The result was an amazing win to Cape of 5.5 games to 1.5!

Huge congratulations to all the team - well played everyone!

Several of our visitors took advantage of the Bacon Baps for Ukraine before we played and we had a delicious roast afterwards.

Thanks go as always, to Mark and his team - the course is looking amazing; also to the Cape staff for looking after us so well, and last but not least to the team!

Our next match is away against Falmouth!

Frieda's Follies

Frieda's Folly

Thursday saw eight ladies play Fried's fun format of only even numbered clubs plus driver, putter and pitching wedge!

It was a challenge to say the least!

We needed countback to separate second and third with Jenny taking second over Chris D - both with 12 points!

Our winner was Frieda with 14 points...maybe she had been secretly practicing!

Saturday's Sydney Grose was cancelled again because of wind gusts of over 50 mph. A few ladies went out to play just a few holes before the strong winds arrived.

Sunday is our first league match since Covid reared its ugly head. We play Bude at home and we will be having fairly strong winds!
