Lafrowda Open

 Lafrowda Open

The Lafrowda Charity Open followed on from yesterday's Ladies April Open and several of our ladies entered which was great to see!

This was a texas scramble - four drives each and 20% course handicap; most teams were mixed but there were some solely men's teams and one solely ladies team.

Tee times began at 12.00 and ran through till after 3pm. As we played the first couple of holes the thick mist that had been hanging around in the background for the last few days swirled in and blanketed the first two holes... you couldn't see the wall, or the green on the second from 50yds away... so those that started early came back in for a coffee before venturing out in clearer weather for the rest of the round.

And it stayed clear thank goodness. In fact the little break in play was perfect for our group because when we got to the third tee look what was waiting for us!!!

Little bottles of Prosecco! Brilliant job John! Thank you! What a great surprise!

Needless to say we enjoyed them through the rest of the round.

We were very relaxed about the day because we knew we were playing the next day too...so if someone hit a good shot we just went for that one and saved ourselves some energy.
Plus...with all the men in the other teams we thought we wouldn't stand a chance of winning  - so we decided we'd just have fun.

There was a really good turnout overall -  I don't have the actual numbers but all the entry fees and the money taken for the pizzas went to the Lafrowda Charity and approx £1700 was raised in total!

A fantastic result!

To the actual results... I believe Andy Cl and Rob L won the nearest the pin and longest drive contests... (I believe there are pictures on Facebook?) and by some magic (Prosecco perhaps?) Ros, Frieda, Lindsay and I won the overall prize!

We were one of the first teams out so we had enjoyed a drink and pizza while other teams were only just going through to the tenth so we headed home. It wasn't until we arrived at the Club on Saturday that we discovered we had won!!!!

Well done everyone at Cape for organizing  and hosting such a fun day and raising so much for charity.

I believe it may be repeated next year.
