Friendly v Falmouth

 Friendly v Falmouth

Wednesday saw us venture up to Falmouth for the first of our Friendly matches. We were unsure what the weather would be like but the rain held off till after we were finished and though there was a fresh wind we managed ok!

We received a warm welcome from the Falmouth ladies and due to some traffic issues (which affected both home and away teams!) we teed off a little late.

The format was a betterball stableford - matchplay - off 90%. This meant the lowest handicapper in each group played off scratch and everyone else got 90% of the difference.
You will know from of old that I consider this is a very challenging format for a friendly but everyone soldiered on to the last. Fran and Liz were the only team who won... but two of the other matches were close - going to the 17th and 18th holes, so well done everyone.

10th hole

I was very sad to see the changes taking place to the par 5  10th hole. I thought this was a beautiful hole... magnificent trees on the right and the left. For me it was the prettiest hole of the course... but you can see in the photo above the changes that are taking place.
A new green is being built...  just beyond the bottom of the hill and the present green and surrounds will be developed for housing. Several of the Falmouth ladies said how sad they were to see these changes.

We enjoyed a good meal together before we headed home in the rain.

The result, a win to Falmouth 3 matches to 1; our teams were Fran and Liz, Bev and Bronwen, Chris J and Frieda and Angie and myself.
Thanks all!
